It shouldn't be quite as bad as the MW2 situation, since Rage is more of first-person RPG ala Fallout 3 and Borderlands. Probably won't support more than 4 people in multiplayer.

Carmack indicated he believed the servers are something of a remnant of the early days of PC gaming.

Get on the bandwagon now before I pioneer standardized console specs and an industry consortium.

Time to declare that Rage looked liked shit, none of id's games were ever that fun anyway, and how Carmack is just a mean poopy head.

Then make a smug remark about still being better than the console proletariat, standing on the upper deck of the sinking ship known as PC gaming.

I thought this was single player only.

Yeah, this is the first I've heard about multiplayer, unless some passing comment was made at Quakecon that I just happened to forget.

What I saw of the game made it look somewhere between Fallout 3 and Borderlands. You've got a huge, open world, vehicles to travel between points on your map, quests to pick up from the locals, and bandit encampments to raid. Multiplayer will probably be similar to Borderlands.

smh

I've not played multiplayer PC games since the heady early days of LAN parties on Win 95 and NT.

What's the big deal about this? Is it just that a game's MP will only work for as long as the publisher is willing to offer support?

Good point. It will be coop I guess, no need for dedicated servers for that.

Unlike a game like Call of Duty, you're probably not going to have 20-30 people playing with their clans on custom maps.
