then there are already tons of OSs for you out there, homovonio.
-
Cool for the casual netbook market, for sure.
-
looks cool. I would love to have a small internet only laptop with this.
-
I like the idea of shaking up your conventional UI for an OS. Isn't there some netbook-only Ubuntu version that's more like a phone OS? I remember seeing pics for it and thinking it looked cool.
-
Oh, forgot i wasn't allowed to have an opinion then.
Thanks for the reminder!
Yeah you should know your place by now homovonio.
-
I'll probably get it for my shit laptop.
-
Google docs sux. And I like Google, for the most part, but their spreadsheet app is terrible.
-
Nobody uses spreadsheets.
-
I use spreadsheets all the time. :'(
-
I find it hilarious how in some of the videos they play it off like you can't wait 50 seconds to use the internet. They forgot to tell you that while you can use the internet instantly with this, you have to wait forever (literally) to do anything else.
but I guess it could be good for netbooks if it helps with power management
-
my win7 netbook boots (with readyboost on a 4gb flash card) and is ready for the internet within a minute. same for my macbook air!
-
What you need to do is install a PS3 game, boot computer, make sandwich, use computer, wait a bit, then play the PS3 game. It all balances out.

you have a fucking macbook air? no wonder you hate macs
-
Wasn't Microsoft teh devil for including a web browser in with their OS? Why is it acceptable now for Chrome?
-
It looks like shit.
-
I use spreadsheets all the time. :'(
Same.
-
If this is anything like Google Chrome the browser, it'll be cool for about twenty minutes.
Isn't the Chrome browser among the worst as far as security?
-
no.
-
Chrome is awesome, wtf
-
chrome is just a fairly tweaked webkit with better process isolation
-

becuse chromium will never have more than 2% marketshare
EVER
better to ask why mac os x can be bundled with a browser without judicial complaint

it's the perfect mac -- complete form over function! if i'm gonna go mac, i'm gonna get the one that best encapsulates the spirit of the mac (and has a 128GB SSD for speedy boot).
-
I agree with Prole on the Macbook Air. I only hate it because of the price -- that doesn't matter to Prole.
-
I like Chrome a lot. It's not really extensible as of yet, but it's fast.
-
I have yet to try Chrome. It's still not quite ready to go on OSX, and when I boot up XP, I have to use Firefox or IE (for school-related purposes).

I find it hilarious that they talk about having to wait for a bunch of shit to happen you don't care about when booting up your computer, but then spend like two minutes yammering on about a bunch of shit you don't care about before finally getting to the point. And who the fuck ONLY uses a computer for web browsing? Tweens? Housewives? I mean, my wife tends to only use her PC for the internet, but she still makes use of other applications.
Sounds like this will just be another alternative to buying a Netbook with a Windows or Linux OS.
-
my favorite part is "where is it stored? on the computer? NO! it's all on the internet!" what no fuck you google.
-

Because this is putting an OS in their web browser. You're talking about getting peanut butter in someone's chocolate, but this is actually the chocolate-in-the-peanut-butter scenario.
-
Can it run Internet Explorer?
Insert "We put a browser in your browser" meme.
-
I use spreadsheets all the time. :'(
me too. smh willco

TRUST GOOGLE™ TO STORE ALL YOUR IMPORTANT FILES! DON'T WORRY, INTERNET IS ALWAYS ON AND YOU CAN ALWAYS ACCESS IT 24-7. PHONE OR CABLE LINES DOWN? POWER-OUTS? NATURAL DISASTERS? MYTHS AND LEGENDS!
-
Yeah, I found myself auto-listing all the scenarios where I can't access the internetz as well. It turns out to be most of the time.
-
Nobody uses spreadsheets.
100% of IT consultants do.
0% of wannabe Hollywood writers do.
But let's be fair here. They're not targeting IT consultants.
-
I expect this to be even less succesfull than the browser.
-
Who do you think this OS will hurt more, Microsoft or Apple?
MS. Apple has shown no interest in developing any netbook. That can change at any moment, though.
I expect this to be even less succesfull than the browser.
Who even uses Chrome browser except recursive?
I do. It's great. I believe ToxicAdam is a fan as well.
-

I use it on Windows. IE is better now but still annoying, and Firefox has hit the shitter. and lol at Safari in Windows. Chrome is lightening fast and does everything I want it to.
-
Chrome is fast but has stability problems and is nigh featureless. The process isolation is pretty ace though, so when the browser or the Flash plugin do go tits up, you only lose one tab.
-
I use Chrome on my work laptop. I'm a big fan, but I really wish I could use Adblock Plus with it.

The developer's build of the mac version has adblock.
