Title: Mushihime-sama Futanari - anyone import it uguu~? NSFW
Post by: Don Flamenco on November 27, 2009, 02:12:55 PM
Just wondering if anyone has impressions.   I can't decide whether I want to buy it now for chance that it'll show up on ebay in a few weeks for cheaper.

I'm getting it in a month. But EOJ over at cave-stg seems to like it: http://www.cave-stg.com/forum/index.php?topic=559.msg12436#msg12436

So far, this is probably the best port of any shmup ever.

Nice...man, I love playing shmups, but I know there's no way in hell I'll get $80 worth of fun out of this.  I play shmups once in a blue moon and infinite credit the game, but it's really fun for the 20 minutes it takes to beat the game.  And I can think of so many better ways to have 20 minutes worth of fun for $80.

that's what I'm thinking...more people will have imported the game since it's region free and I figure a handful will be impulse purchases.  and maybe I can get some bing cashback on it.  Then I can have my fun and throw it in a drawer until it's out of print and resell it for some bucks.

Not just bored importers, you'll see used copies from Japan and Hong Kong showing up on ebay since they'll get more from Americans than they would at the local game shop.

I uh... have just a little bit of first hand experience with this buying my Gundam games...  :teehee

Not planning on getting it.  I have more of a preference for horizontal shmups like Otomedius and Deathsmiles.

Got my copy!  Game is amazing, anyone who likes shooters at all but hasn't played this is definitely in for an awesome experience.  Futari is definitely one of Cave's stronger games, and this is an absolutely fantastic port!

Buy buy buy!  Show that there's interest for shooters in the West!  Cave has mentioned that this is going to be a way to judge whether to start localizing titles in the west!

Excellent game.  Not my fav Cave game, but I've pumped a ton of quarters into it.  Plus Cave shmups are better than every other shmup ever made, so even if it's like the 3rd or 5th best Cave game, that still makes it the 3rd of 5th best shmup evar.

My copy isn't coming until Dec 18th :X  Packed Mushihime with Graces & FFXIII to save those shipping $$$ in this economy.

it's all about concentration.  you have a tiny ass hit box and you have to weave in and out of those bullets.  The rest of the shit is just to distract you.

Yeah, I could possibly do it, but I still don't like the intimidation factor of NO SPACE ANYWHERE on the sides

And wait, there's a 16:9 mode, what?  How does that even work with a tate game.

Touhou is pretty good for a doujin game, but I'd rather just play professional games since there's not really a shortage of good ones. That and I can't get my arcade stick to work properly with Touhou.  ???

The music is pretty catchy though. ZUN should be a composer.

That doesn't look even slightly fun.

That is only the high level, 2nd run type bullet stuff.  Cave games have lots of bullets but your hitbox is only 1 pixel wide and it's very manageable.  They are super fun.  For example:

*Note Espgaluda series has the best mechanic ever.  You use your super meter on/off for seconds to slow down time and if you use it all up the bullets actually go 1.5x as fast.

Also in the good Cave games (all of them?) if you destroy an enemy their bullets disappear.  So you can avoid a lot of bullet spam by killing them before the bullets reach you.

That doesn't look even slightly fun.

Never played Futari, but I tried the original game and it really didn't grab me.  The PS2 port was also ugly as hell.

Futari is like 100x better than the original.  The original is my least favorite Cave game and it's also one of the ugliest games I've ever seen, even in the arcade.  Futari looks good and plays SO MUCH BETTER.

Yeah, the video I posted was of God Mode, so that's about as hard as it gets. Most people will be playing Original/Maniac mode which isn't that crazy.

There are some Cave games available on MAME if people are interested but haven't tried one. Off the top of my head there's Donpachi, Dodonpachi, Guwange, ESP Ra.De and Dangun Feveron. Might be forgetting one though.

D'oh, beaten. But you forgot Dangun Feveron!

I love how everytime a Cave thread comes up, someone posts that stupid-ass last boss Mushihime video.

Here are some things to consider,

-The majority of the game is not like this at all, and is quite manageable
-That's a really hard boss on the hardest difficulty level
-The majority of players will never even see this boss
-By the time you actually can face this boss, you'll be good enough so that you can probably put up a decent fight, as a good player can see the survival lines

In other words, posting that "crazy" video and commenting about how it doesn't "look fun" is essentially holding up a sign saying "I'm a huge n00b and know absolutely nothing about the shooting genre".  It would be like me posting a video of a tough battle on Halo 3 Legendary or the hardest song in Rock Band and assuming that the entire game is like that.

Danmaku games are no harder than the oldskool shooters, just that your hitbox is smaller and there's more bullets, as opposed to having a huge hitbox but less bullets.  I consider Danmaku games to be easier, since you know exactly where your hitbox is and there's no questionable hits that can come up in the other games.

It is.

Which makes the parts where it's not insane bullet hell kinda easier than a lot of shmups!  That's why I love these games.  For most of the game you get a lot of leeway on dodging through bullet patterns because your hitbox is only 1 pixel.  I'm not fantastic at the genre, but I can get real far on one credit in most Cave games because of that.  Hell, a lot of the times I think I screwed up and then I don't die because magically my hitbox was too small so the bullets went right through me.  I like to steal the credit there and pretend I'm just that good  ;)

If Cave starts doing phenomenal ports of all their recent arcade shmups every 2-3 months this will be INSANITY.  SHMUP HEAVEN.

If they can get out EspII + 2-4 of these: Dodonpachi Daioujou 2, Pink Sweets, Ketsui, Muchi Muchi Pork that would be AMAZING.

I think I'm gonna go order my monitor stand to rotate my monitor to TATE mode for ESPII

Hopefully Espgaluda 2 will be region free too. Or at least they should start bringing them over to the west (Death Smiles is currently in the process of being localized apparently). I don't see Cave stopping any time soon though. I'm personally hoping for a Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu port next so I can finally play that.

5pb still has Ketsui AFAIK and apparently the port is in bad shape and might not be coming out  :(

If worst comes to worst I'll wind up blowing $300 for a Japanese 360 so I can pick up all the shooters I missed so far. Mushi Futari being region free made me put off my J360 purchase until at least next year...

Is MAME hard to set up and find games for? I don't have much patience for emulators. They should all be as simple as the SNES and GBA ones.

It's just as easy.

Get MAME.  Throw .rar of game into /rom dir.  Click MAME.exe.  BAM YOU ARE PLAYING.

Daifukkatsu is all but confirmed at this point, they'll likely do it after Espgaluda 2 is done.  They also confirmed Deathsmiles 2 last year, although that's nothing to be excited for.

Muchi Muchi pork was confirmed for an XBLA version, no idea when that'll show up tho.

Pink Sweets was a huge bomb in the arcades so I'd be kind of surprised if that showed up.  It's an interesting game though, so I hope it gets some sort of home port eventually.  I play it every once in awhile but it's really tough to score well in it if you don't spend a lot of time practicing.

I suck at MAME.  I always have to use some shitty frontend.  Is there a way where MAME can explained for distinguished mentally-challenged fellows like myself without using a frontend of some kind.  I dun get command lines or if MAME even uses command lines these days.

OMG I hope to GOD that ESPGaluda II is region free. And where did you hear that Deathsmiles US release news? That would be great, now if we could get Mamotte-kun over here that would be fucking awesome.

Fairly old article from Kotaku: http://kotaku.com/5370354/cave-wants-to-bring-its-manic-shooters-global

Quote
"Right now, we're working on a few titles for localization," Asada said. Again, take caution. "This is currently all in talks. With regards to Death Smiles, we can say that it's currently in progress and hopefully soon we'll be able to give overseas users news about its release."

The possibility of Cave games on Steam is also mentioned, but I'm not sure if that's straight from Asada or speculation from Kotaku...

What?

http://mamedev.org/release.html

Grab the binary package.  Install.  Drop roms into /rom dir.  Click mame.exe.  Should take you to a window that lists your games and has a "configure keys" option.  Configure keys, press enter on game.  Play.

It's pretty straightforward.  It's not like PS/PS2 emulators where you need bios' and stuff.

So Cave put up the Black Label DLC on the US marketplace (1200 points): http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/games/offers/0ccf0002-0000-4000-8000-0000435a07d7

250 extra achievement points, no idea what they are.

These are the additions/changes for Black Label from the arcade version:

Quote from: Wikipedia
Black Label

It is a limited (150 copies) release of the game, with the following changes:

    * Stages 3 and 5 have a darker color palette.
    * No shot type selection. The resulting shot type is a mixture of Normal and Abnormal modes from previous games, and is much more powerful than in other versions.
    * Scoring system changes. The score system for close range attacks is changed. Multipliers in Maniac and God mode now carry over between stages. Gold gems are far more abundant in all modes, allowing for much larger scores.
    * God (極弩) mode. Replacing the Ultra mode, it uses a slightly modified Maniac mode score system, and preserves most of the bullet density of the replaced mode, but with new enemy arrangements and barrages. It has much more slowdown compared to Ultra mode and it is also much easier compared to Ultra mode, in fact most players consider Ver 1.0(1)'s Maniac mode to be harder than God mode.
    * A new True Last Boss, Spiritual Larsa. She can only be reached by completing God mode without dying. She is easier than Ultra mode's True Last Boss.

Just bought it myself. Two more weeks until I can play it. :spin

The DLC voucher unlocks version 1.01

1.01

Debuted in 2006 Cave festival. It includes game system in 1.5, but uses barrages from 1.0.

game is fun, raiden fighters aces fun though i have absolutely no idea what i am doing (everything is in japanese, including the achievements).

just want to know one thing, is the slowdown intentional?

Yes.  Cave games have lots of slowdown in the arcade.  The home ports match that.

Yeah, I don't have my futari yet but going by Death Smiles X360 mode should just have a different graphical look.  The slowdown is part of the gameplay so they wouldn't change that.  It would mess people up who are used to slowdown at certain parts.
Title: Re: Mushihime-sama Futanari - anyone import it uguu~? NSFW
Post by: originalz on December 15, 2009, 06:42:12 PM
Yeah, the slowdown is emulated to give an accurate representation of the arcade version.  Some ports (like DOJ for the 360) give you the option to turn off the slowdown, but it usually makes the game more difficult.

Of course, then you have games like Otomedius, where there wasn't any slowdown in the arcade but they added it for the 360 mode in order to make fun of the shooters of old.

The Black Label expansion is currently messed up tho, has a lot of stuttering which shouldn't exist and will likely be fixed with a patch (Deathsmiles had some minor issues pre-patch as well).  It's still worth picking up since BL really changes the mechanics of the game.

Hey MCD, what's in the LE?  My order just get rammed up the behind by P-A, so I'm gonna end up buying it off Ebay at jacked up prices to at least get the DLC card.  $90something for standard, $150 for LE.  Wondering if I should pay the extra and go for the LE.

Blazblue LE like package + OST + DLC voucher for 1.01 (108kb unlock key).

I only went with the LE because a friend of mine said that his friend is coming back from japan and can buy it from there at the original price so i said why not.

Ah.  Yeah I don't really want to pay an extra $50+ for an ost.  I'll just pay $80+shipping for the standard with dlc card.

There was also a "super" LE which included a couple of faceplates and a telephone card that was only on sale at Cave's website.  I ordered a bunch of them and sold the extras, made some pretty nice $$$ in the process!
