:lol
Holy shit, this is extremely Gladiator-like. Day one.
-
I apologize that I went to BED and did not post a trailer.
-
Nah. I'm not really jazzed. It could be good, I'll have to see more. Robin Hood is kind of like Dracula, in that it's been done so many times that there really needs to be something fresh. The only reason I'm not writing it off is because of Scott.
-
The last time I heard anything about this movie, it had Crowe as the sheriff and was called "Nottingham".
-
There aren't many Ridley Scott movies I like but I'll surely take this Gladiator pt 2.
the assembled cast definitely carries alot of gravity
-
Ridley Scott :bow You know the cinematography is gonna be good
-
Scott + Crowe = JIZZ
-

He was actually playing both. It was some lame ass twist movie where Robin and the Sheriff are the same person. Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde disguised as Robin Hood.
-
The origins of "Robin Hood" just hint at literally a homeless thief so they actualy have a lot of leeway to be creative with this if they wanted to be. Personally, I think it would be cool if they actually tried to show how the modern Robin Hood myth was formed and make a story that's actually meaningful of the politics of the time. I think Russel Crowe could actually do a film like that well.
But most likely, they're making this whole warrior-poet rehash just for sales. Going by the premise of the film on wikipedia, it's just another robin hood movie.
-
Your movie idea sucks.

Told by a dying old man, giving his confession to the church perhaps; he was a kid during Robin Hood's time.
I'm glad you aren't making movies!
-
Yeah, I rarely tell anyone their movie ideas suck, because wait until you guys see what the fuck I'm working on, but whoa buddy.
-
I'd hit it.
... I don't know if I'd risk life and limb to hit it, but I wouldn't kick it out of bed.
-
Your movie idea sucks.
It's basically a period movie that shows how people hype up a person into a myth. It can't suck that bad.
-

What, you're telling me you don't want to hear about the politics of Robin Hood?!?!

Man, I was going to make a Zeitgeist joke with your post before this one but wasn't sure if it was apt. Guess I was right.
And no one really cares about the myth itself but the romanticized take on Robin Hood. It's just more exciting.
-
ROBIN HOOD LIKE YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT BEFORE: BORING
-
No, if you make what happens on screen look real/authentic, then a story that shows the way a homeless thief gets made into legend can be interesting. The traditional Robin Hood legend is boring and tripe. It's just tired and useless as far as any serious movie goes. However, you reverse it and show it all treated as hopeless fantasy of the people of the time, and it becomes interesting. If your audience is over 12 years old.
-
But then we wouldn't have Kevin Costner doin' Medieval thangs to some Bryan Adams song.
-
I usually tow the line when it comes to trolling popular cinema, but trashing Braveheart and Gladiator? MrAngryFace would have never agreed with that. Not like this, not like this. :maf
-
I don't know if you should call it a period movie if it just takes real people and makes up most of the stuff about them. Like the princess that Wallace is shown having an affair with (and impregnating) was actually a toddler at that time..
Gladiator was OK since it was 99% action like the title would imply and never claimed to be showing a real historical event (at least not that I can remember.
-
Exxxtreme takes on things like this tend to be terrible. See: Gladiator, Braveheart etc. I can't wait for the FREEDOM speech in the next trailer.

I actually saw that in theater. :-\
-
how can you hate on braveheart besides the fact that they made my ancestor Robert the Bruce a craven and traitor, which didnt happen. Did I mention it was originally written by a fucking Wallace who OBVIOUSLY made his family line look better than it actually ws. fucker

The only well known thin actress in that age group thats any uglier is Tilda Swinton.

:yuck :yuck :yuck :yuck :yuck :yuck
I keep mistaking Tilda Swinton for Cate Blanchett right up until she opens her mouth.
-
I was really underwhelmed by Gladiator when I saw it in a theatre.
Haven't seen it since, but my opinion of stuff doesn't tend to improve ten years on.
-
I think you're saying you want Orlando Bloom as Robin Hood
-
Man, Tilda Swinton is one ugly broad. Why is she in so many films with good looking people like George Clooney?
I like that Green Man is putting effort into his gay schtick.
-
Bloom can bring over his Legolas bow.
And his utter inability to act.
-
I'm pretty sure Robin Hood always used a traditional English long bow and realistically, long bowman would be pretty big and buff since they had to be able to lift 200 pounds each time they did a full draw on one of those bows. Having a skinny-ass lithe motherfucker carrying around a long bow would be like a Japanese porn star wearing magnum condoms.
-
yeah, the original "Robin Hood" probably was actually a malnourished thief. Maybe the archery part was thrown in when England became proud of it's archers' military superiority.
However, anybody can figure out that no holocaust-surviving elves could really draw a long bow more than a few inches, they certainly wouldn't be able to pick off anybody from a distance and you can just bet that this movie is going to show some sniping scenes only possible because Russel Crowe lacks agility and humor.
Using a longbow in a forest :dur
It wouldn't make sense, I agree. But that's what the trailer showed where Crowe is just using a long bow and lots of rage.
-
You know what would rock?
A Robin Hood tale focussed on the Sheriff trying to track that bitch down.
That's what it was going to be originally. Then Ridley Scott had the bright idea of Nottingham and Robin Hood being the same dude. Then he decided that sounded stupid and now he's apparently just doing a traditional (?) heroic Robin Hood movie.
I'm not sure what to think of this, but all Scott's historical pictures thus far have been pretty ace...
-
Nothing will beat this (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RobinHoodMenInTights).
:D

Why is the reception in this thread so different from Avatar

Kingdon of Heaven (DC) > Braveheart > Gladiator.
I like Gladiator though.

King Don of Heaven sounds good. Hope it's better than Kingdom of Heaven, which featured some of the worst acting from a lead I have ever seen, and is in no way better than either Braveheart or Gladiator.

I'm a fan of the Robin Hood legend and Ridley Scott's cinematography but I can see where Gladiator 2.0 is just disinteresting to some. Actually, I didn't really care for Gladiator either but Kingdom of Heaven was so good. This definitely looks to be Gladiator'esque :-\
-
This looks awful.

Hey now, Scott has directed a Best Picture winner. :smug
-
:lol a sad reflection of what I mean I guess. the only scott movie i enjoyed this decade
not seen KoH DC though I have a feeling the geeks are over-attached to it because of the AWWEEEOSOME cinematography or some shit.
-
i get it
robin hood is a lone wolf
-
KoH DC was much better than the theatrical but still was no Gladiator or Black Hawk Down. It didn't help that Eva Green looked like a coked out whore the whole time.
-
Wait, are you saying Gladiator/Black Hawk Down are better than KoH DC? gtfo
Robin Hood looks meh. I guess I shouldn't doubt Scott with these types of flicks but seriously, since when does Robin Hood lead massive armies to war? :-\

Pretty much my thoughts on this.
-
when he was an OUTLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
-
Ridley Scott has the weirdest career, he's got some stone-cold classics, a bunch of middling flicks to good/great, and some utter dreck in his resume. I mean, yeah, you can say the same about lots of people who've made great films, but few of those people have something like 1492 or G.I. Jane (I coulda swore that was a Tony Scott movie) in their histories.
I never know to be whether to be excited for his next film or not. Like this one for instance.
-
G.I. Jane (I coulda swore that was a Tony Scott movie) in their histories.
Wow. I thought the exact same thing.
-
I just got GI Jane from the school library. Guess I'll watch it sometime this weekend
-
I'ma rent Kingdom of Heaven from the vidjo store.
-
This movie is gonna suck.

He's a complicated outlaw. I think he also wants to free Scotland and rejoin his family in the afterlife.

Is that old man the same one that played the emperor in Gladiator?
-
Probably.

He was also in Wet Dreams May Come :teehee
But yeah, trolling Von Sydow is kind of ::)
-
From what I've seen, European actors are willing to star in anything. Thus you have folks like Michael Caine who will happily do Jaws The Revenge on one hand, and The Quiet American on the other. Same thing with someone like Anthony Hopkins who does Freejack and then turns around and does something like Titus Andronicus.
Max Von Sydow is one of the greats, and I imagine he's proud of his career. You also have to remember that he's an old man, and he's looked like an old man since he was middle-aged. The roles you're offered get kind of limited at that point.
-
I'm glad folks like von Sydow and Hal Holbrook are still out there working in their 80s, instead of retired like Gene Hackman. I highly doubt they need the money at this point and are obviously just doing it for the love of the craft.
-
Flash Gordon rocks, you shut your dirty whore mouth.
:rock :rock :rock
What the hell is this about Gene Hackman? How did I not notice he hasn't done anything since 2004? Was Kevin Spacey's impression of him in Superman Returns just that impressive? ::)
-
Title change tricked me, and I'm kinda disappointed :'(
-
The funny thing about the title change is for a while they really were going to do a medieval Gladiator 2 with Maximus reincarnated. Gladiator 3 would have been Maximus in WWII.
-
There were gladiators in World War II?
-
Maximus killing Nazis with a gladius! It has Oscar written all over it!
-

Ooo, ooo, can the final shot be Maximus kicking Hitler off a 10-story roof!?

ah correct we mustn't forget the REAL Gladiator 2 script penned by Nick Cave still awaits a daring studio to finance this bugfuck adventure. scott and crowe need to stop coasting...
