She was relatively average looking. There is a weird tendenacy for people to think anybody who is in movies or on TV  is "hot".

I get that, but she had to be aware that it would kill her. I'm pretty ignorant on this subject, because I really haven't messed with any legitimately addictive substances.
Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: DJ_Tet on December 20, 2009, 06:41:35 PM
Never smoked a cig or had a drink?

anyway, plenty of addicts do drugs knowing it will kill them eventually

Latest news is that her husband is against an autopsy.  Wonder why?

Post by: MyNameIsMethodis on December 20, 2009, 06:45:12 PM
Wilco's high on life, he doesn't need to smoke a cigar or a drink.

Why do we care more about a famous crackwhore who dies when theres millions of crackwhores who die every day?
Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: The Fake Shemp on December 20, 2009, 06:48:58 PM
Never smoked a cig or had a drink?

I love to drink and smoke cigars (not cigarettes, though). But if my doctor said that due to a medical condition or a psychological condition, that the using either would certainly kill me, I wouldn't do it. Addicts are dependent on substances, and I don't really consider alcohol, cigars and marijuana addicting (the extent of my drug use) - with the caveat that I know some people are wired differently and can develop addictions to alcohol and tobacco.

But, no, I wouldn't use something like cocaine or heroin or even cigarettes.
Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: DJ_Tet on December 20, 2009, 06:54:39 PM
I see what you're getting at but by any acceptable measure alcohol and tobacco are 'legitimately addicting substances.'

Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: Saint Cornelius on December 20, 2009, 06:57:43 PM
Willco, the same kind of shit could happen to you if you don't put down the cruller every now and then.
Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: The Fake Shemp on December 20, 2009, 06:58:09 PM
Without getting into an argument about semantics, technicalities and medical theory (although, I do agree alcoholism is a disease), my point boils down to this:

I do not understand why someone would engage in a behavior knowing of the possibility of an immediate and fatal reaction, unless they were damaged beyond repair - and by that point, should she not be in rehab? Where is the husband here?

I know of some people that say they are recreational cocaine users (Green Shinobi?), but I'm pretty sure they don't combine it with anorexia.
Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: The Fake Shemp on December 20, 2009, 07:00:52 PM
Willco, the same kind of shit could happen to you if you don't put down the cruller every now and then.

I had to look that up to see what that was.

... I don't eat those things, my diet is largely absent of sugars and such. I rarely eat red meat. My weight is an issue though, which is why I've gone even further in reducing my caloric intake, fat content and continuing daily exercise. But even in this condition, I wouldn't worsen it by eating a bunch of donuts because I recognize the possibility of a fatal reaction, even if it's not immediate.
Title: Re: RIP Brittany Murphy
Post by: MyNameIsMethodis on December 20, 2009, 07:01:03 PM
Cocaine always has the chance of being fatal, any drug except weed pretty much does. Some people do it for that, other's do it because they're addicted and they can't stop, no matter the circumstance. Until you get addicted to something that isn't bear claws then you won't understand.

There's a chance, Kosma! If she burns her bridges so badly that she can't even become someone's stay-at-home fucktoy, she may end up doing direct-to-video horror porn for a few years. During that time, if she turns to drugs you'll have a small window where she's still marginally hot, just before she dies of a horrible OD and the news suddenly remembers her as "America's sweetheart" with a full retrospective of both Transformers movies and her indie hit, Jennifer's Body. If you can focus on that narrow gap, you might have a chance at her narrow gap.
