I feel the Steam Christmas sale it worthy of a separate thread. You can find a Google spreadsheet of deals here (http://spreadsheets.google.com/lv?key=takFEFyWT5EfFYxerxuOA6w&toomany=true)
Also, Fallout 3 GOTY is $17.49 :o (http://store.steampowered.com/app/22370/)
Wait 22 hours. Maybe they jumped the gun on the deal for tomorrow.
Buy Outrun 2 for $2.50 or I will punch u in the mean bean machine
Sid Meier's Pirates! is a lot of fun, Patel. You'll have a good time with that.
Sid Meier's Pirates! is a lot of fun, Patel. You'll have a good time with that.
Yeah, I played the hell out of the original, as well as the PSP version of the remake. Glad to get it for $6 for my netbook.
Anything you'd recommend out of the Bearded Grognard section?
I think the bundle with Ben There, Dan That is cheap too.Its actually one in the same, purchasing Time Gentleman, Please gets you BTDT included (which is also pretty dang not bad).
Also, Defense Grid is the best standalone (read: not a WC3 map) TD game on the PC and it's just $2.50. The Overlord games are good (if a huge waste of a hypertalented team) and are on sale as well.
Are these games like Machinarium or the Time Gentlemen Please pack "experience" style games or do they actually have mechanically strong, coherent yet mind-twisting puzzles? I have a huge pet peeve of games that try to look clever, subversive and "indie" but are bankrupt when it comes to actually, you know, being a game, and both games are giving me that sort of hipster douchebag equivalent vibe.
I think that does me good except for the inevitable daily deals. L4D2 $25 believe!
I got suckered into:
- Outrun 2
Holy shit Zeno Clash is fucking awesome
id Superpack is worth it, but anyone worth a damn has that and L4D2 already.
id Superpack is worth it, but anyone worth a damn has that and L4D2 already.
Yeah I got it back when it was kinda cheap. Also I could swear I bought L4D2 for $30
Anyone else need L4D2 still? I'll 4-pack it.
All the old shit is already running through DOSBox.
need 4 speed shift for $37FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Just bought Serious Sam HD 2 weeks ago for $19.99. Oh well.
Serious Sam HD for $9
Left 4 dead 2 for $33
football manager for $29
id superpack $23
fffuuuuuuuuuuuu what rubbish
Anyone else need L4D2 still? I'll 4-pack it.
FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Just bought Serious Sam HD 2 weeks ago for $19.99. Oh well.
I enjoyed it. It's just kill, kill, kill, find key, open door, kill some more. The graphics are really nice. I was disappointed that the sound effects are the exact same. The weapons don't have any oomph to them. It's worth $9 bucks, though. Have tried multiplayer yet.FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU Just bought Serious Sam HD 2 weeks ago for $19.99. Oh well.
Was the game any good?
Steam servers are so bogged down. I normally get 2-3mb/sec, but I've been downloading a game at 67k/s for a while. Gonna be days before I can even play anything I buy during this sale ^^;
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 for $4.99 :bow2
Vegas 2 is pretty awesome. Only problem I have with it so far is that environments all seem brown and beige. Vegas 1 had cool casinos you fought in and Vegas night streets while Vegas 2 is more the Las Vegas no one cares about, like where people live (I mean, the one people care even less about).
really? I didn't have any problems downloading Serious Sam HD. It went at 2 gigs and this was just three hours ago.
So should I just get AP then and skip the original? It's not really a game where scenario is important?
i'd buy the bf2 collection, but i'm certain i'd never play more than once or twice
Watch it be Crysis, which I just bought
I might even trick myself into trying Oblivion Goty for a tennernever again
I've seen Bebpo that you bought Painkiller. Great choice as this is a tremendous old-school FPS game. Yes it is literally go here, find a red key for red door and repeat ad nauseum but the weapons, enemies, graphics AND PHYSICS will blow your fucking mind off. The STAKEGUN is one of the best weapons in a FPS game ever, right there with Gravity Gun.
Prototype™
$19.99
torchlight $5 lol
Sacred 2 for $5.
I almost bought Torchlight for $10 earlier. :lol
Gonna try the demo now to make sure it runs decently. Guess I'll get Lumines or Universe at War along with it.
sweetI almost bought Torchlight for $10 earlier. :lol

Torchlight has a netbook mode so it will run on just about anything.
there's really no excuse not to try torchlight at that price
Sacred 2 for $5.
That's Sacred Gold. The first one.
Those pieces of fucking shit. I just bought Torchlight last night at $10 for my dad.
:piss Steam :piss2
Could someone gift me Torchlight and I'll pay them the $5 to PayPal? Steam still hasn't gotten back to me about my account, but I don't want to miss this deal. :-\
Suck up.
:lolSuck up.
More like suckee. :-*
To warm Patel's frosty heart, I'm also getting Time Gentlemen, Please!
Not that anybody here needs a bigger gaming backlog then they already have, but the Lucasarts Adventure pack (The Dig, Loom, and both Indiana Jones point and clickers) now goes for an astonishingly low price of $2.49.
I mean, dude, like wow, man.
It says I don't know my password, and when I asked it to send my password to my e-mail account - the powers that be did not. I have to sign up for some kind of Steam Support account to resolve the matter, which I'm sure is problem #54435956963560356 for their support people.
I also wish I could change my account name. It is the e-mail I signed up for Steam with back in 2003 (when I was high in anticipation of Half-Life 2!), but I stopped using that e-mail account ages ago.
Have you had any luck in resolving this? I have exactly the same problem...I signed up for Steam to register for a free copy of HL2 for buying a video card (damned if I can remember which one now) and have been stuck with a email address for a username that I can't remember half the time.
I got it. I got kicked from a server due to some Punkbuster bullshit and haven't tried to play since. It finally downloaded and installed and it probably took me at least a half hour to get the ID and password bullshit through GameSpy sorted out. Once I did that, I got kicked from a game because my ping was high :piss2 . I did a filter search for servers without Punkbuster and nothing popped up :lol.
Just an FYI, Zombie Driver isn't even worth the $2.50.
HoI3 isn't bad anymore like it was at release, but it's still got a few open wounds, so to speak.
EU3 Complete is the Paradox game you want to get if you are interesting in playing a Paradox game. Three years and three expansion packs have made that game something that rivals the all-time strategy gaming greats.
Rest of today's stuff is totally meh, I agree. Just an FYI, Zombie Driver isn't even worth the $2.50.
Just an FYI, Zombie Driver isn't even worth the $2.50.
It looks like a fun little game, so what's wrong with it?

It's really, really repetitive. The giant bomb first look nailed it-it's basically ramming zombies and doing the same thing over and over again. There are better time-wasters on the PC , IMO.
That being said, it does make me think that someone could have some real success making a "throwback" indie GTA-style game for the PC. The controls and perspective of Zombie Driver don't feel old or cranky at all.
Can you gift stuff after you buy it?
:bow Burnout Paradise :bow2co-signed
You can listen to Cat Scratch Fever and Barracuda while playing some lame Pac-Man clone, surely that's worth $2.25.
Prey is one of the few games that's not Valve's that you can register on Steam.
fucking lame - i have no japanese credit card, and paypal won't play nice.
I just wants to give you my moneys!

you can use a wired 360 controller with bioshockYeah but this seems like the kind of game that benefits from rumble, which apparently isn't supported. Oh well. Bought. I actually got a 360 copy for Christmas but I'll just return it. I'm that frugal, yes.
I loved the opening with the Blue Oyster Cult playing on the jukebox.Hell yeah! It's worth $2.50 just for that alone. I love the way that whole scene plays out. First the wolves go crazy, then the TV goes to the Emergency Broadcast channel, power dies, Juke Box comes on, and the aliens arrive.
you bought TQ: Gold, right? :-\
So it appears that my account was hijacked, and although I have gotten it back, please don't be alarmedthis happened to me not that long ago. It took support a day to respond to my message and they reset my password. Pretty quick and easy
I'm gonna be gaming for months on all these games I buy now. Ill prob skip Mass Erect 2 until it drops in price even.
you guys should've jumped on that THQ complete pack for $50 on Black Friday, like I did :smug
Think Jade Empire is Biowares best PC running game swaggaz, I remember the PC version was polished up and released months after the console one as a deluxe edition.

I never played more than 10 mins of Jade Empire on xbox. I'm guessing the xbox version runs like shit like Kotor on xbox?Yeah, that sounds about right. I remember the load times being almost a full minute when leaving an area.
I bought King Arthur just for the hell of it (and it seems like a more linear/setpiece total war style game that's NOT made by CA). Will play tonight and let people know if it is trash at first glance.

One of the complaints is that it's really hard, even on Easy. :lol
I just installed my brand new Radeon 5770! :-*

Burnout runs kinda shitty on my desktop even on low settings, will have to investigate

I have one of those, it's awesome :-* I had to get it because the 5850s were out of stock (and still are)
Burnout is beasting at +100fps on my dad's midrange gaming PC.
Burnout runs kinda shitty on my desktop even on low settings, will have to investigate
It's running smooth on High on my 6600 Duo 8800GTS.
Is Nation Red any good?
I just started Jade Empire, but I do have to admit the aesthetic is surprisingly refreshing from the typical medieval fantasy and post apocalyptic wasteland typical in other WRPGs.

meh.
That feeling passes rather quickly.
That game was simply KOTOR reskinned with an asian mythos. (And a poorly designed fighting engine)
9.9 :teehee
Thought Jade Empire was boring as hell, got through the game just mashing the B button.
It boosts the speed of the crappy GMA 950 integrated graphics chip in netbooks.
CIV IV Complete is back up for $13.60, better hop on it before they change it again:
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/1618/
Civ IV
Civilization IV®: Warlords
Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword
Sid Meier's Civilization IV: Colonization
That's $80 worth of games for $13
This time next year Modern Warfare 2 will be on sale for $49.99. What a deal!
Call of Duty: World at War is now $25, still making it about $20 more than I would ever pay for it.
oh, you mean the SE? I wasn't that impressed by it ... it's one of those Sirlin-style Korean HD tracejobs. I vastly prefer the integrity and art direction of the original pixels to whatever the Busan Art Academy farted out
Doesn't this one look pretty? $5? +1 sale!
Ehh... you could eat a Big Mac w/Fries for that and it would be a better deal TBH.
I went ahead and picked up the LucasArts Adventure Pack along with Monkey Island SE to balance out my Patel street cred. I want to get a Pop Cap game, but I am going to hold off to make sure there's not a last minute deal.

Not Popcap, but my wife wanted Luxor 3, and it was better than expected. Zuma ripoff with a few varieties of goals...with a touch of puzzle bobble thrown in every so often.
It's only $0.99!

$5 sucks for a gussied up version of a game everyone likes ???
It looks atrocious :yuck but YMMV. I would replay the old DOS MI instead.
http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2102/ <-- this is a better deal.

Someone recommended Peggle to me and I tried it out. I like it a lot. I want Peggle. Frag says Chuzzle is awesome too.
You can turn the filters off. I bought that pack too.
ALT+ENTER makes the LucasArts games full screen. ALT+S turns off the filters.
Woah, how'd you find that out? Now I love LucasArts games on Steam!
I didn't buy them literally because of the filters. :yuck
The Dig is such an awesome game, easily one of the most interesting of all the LucasArts adventure games.
And that music. :drool
don't feel obligated on my account :lol
while I consider the epitome of adventure game design to be the machine in Leather Goddesses of Phobos that removes the letter "t" from inventory itemsloved the part in Monkey Island 2 where you were faced with a loose valve and had no tools in your inventory. I was Spamming items and eventually got Guybrush to use the monkey in his inventory as a wrench. A "Monkey Wrench", if you will.
how else will your "rabbit" become a "rabbi"?
I'd get Half-Life: Source or Shattered Horizon if they were 75% off.
is Crysis actually any fun to play? I only ever see it brought up in "hardware still can't run it" discussions that make me nostalgic for the halycon days of Origin Systems

Anybody picking up SFIV?Sorta tempted, but I have a feeling that trying to play it with a mouse and keyboard (I don't have a suitable controller or joystick) would be about as fun as shoving needles down my urethra
Yeah you're right, the vehicle sequences (especially the flying one) are not very good. They were pretty infrequent, so it didn't detract much from the overall game for me
Hmm. I wonder if I could sell Crysis Warhead and get ten bucks out of it. "Still has 4 activations left!"
There's no way I'm buying any PC game in Q4 next year until the Steam sale hits.
Recommended:
o OS: Windows Vista/7 (Does not support Windows XP)
o Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 / AMD Phenom II X4 940
o Memory: 2GB
o Graphics: 512MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 / ATI Radeon HD 4870
o DirectX®: 10 (Does not support DirectX 9)
o Hard Drive: 1.5GB
o Sound: Windows Vista compatible sound card
Fucking EA, Crysis is US$20 for me :'(
Anyone want to gift it to me and I'll paypal them the $14?
It's $13something for USAers
How is Trials 2 compared to Trials HD XBLA?
I have purchased maybe $70 worth of PC games the past week. :lol
How is Trials 2 compared to Trials HD XBLA?
Sucks, but it's $2.50 so you can't complain to much.
Shame about DMC4. I love that game and I'd like to play the PC version with the new additions someday. But I'll wait until next years sale where it's $5.How is Trials 2 compared to Trials HD XBLA?
Sucks, but it's $2.50 so you can't complain to much.
Give more details. Is it mainly the same tracks? Even $2.50 is pointless if the tracks are the same. But if it's dozens of new tracks for $2.50 then it's a great deal. Plus aren't there hundreds of user levels?
FYI Bebpo, I got an email saying that my purchase had been declined. I just tried again and it worked fine.
Ok, Trials 2 is distinguished mentally-challenged. I got my $2.50 worth and I'm done. The controls/physics are sooooo bad compared to Trials HD. I get to an obstacle that would be easy to get past on Trials HD and it's impossible with these controls. :yuck
I haven't played any of the games in the LucasArts Pack, but I have heard a ton of praise for them. I'm just afraid that I will go to GameFAQs the moment I'm stumped because I missed a pixel or because I forgot to use bubblegum on a pipe or something equally illogical.
Indy 4 is pretty accessible, even if a few of the puzzles are inventory nightmare ("use the MAYONNAISE on the STATUE" is synonymous with inane adventure game puzzle design). I'd give it a try and not be afraid to FAQ when you get stuck. Maybe you can use INDY4.UHS (http://www.uhs-hints.com/uhsweb/indy4.php) :hyper
Mayonaise on statue is the fucking stupidest puzzle in the fucking world and justification for the original death of adventure games.
I haven't played Fate of Atlantis yet, but am I to be told that I will be using mayonnaise on a statue?
the only thing I spoiled is the chance for you to waste five hours of your life not figuring that puzzle out!
Sho Nuff, get my back on this one
i'm never playing that game
it was, like, a joke, man
i'm never playing that game

don't make me use the MAN-NAISE on the EEL
Escape from Monkey Island is unbelievably awesome for someone that has never played any of these LucasArts adventure games, although I am at a total loss for where to go now.
I meant Secret, sorry. I don't think you can even buy any of the other Monkey Island games on Steam, save for the new one - which I heard was pretty crappy.

yep, Morrowind and Trine and $5. Red Alert 3 is $10. Painkiller pack is $9. CS:S is $5.
Are these the last deals or do they continue tomorrow?
shit, tempted to get trine, but XBLA version is coming out (and I hear the game isn't very well optimized.)
I'm in for the Painkiller pack.
not outrageous. I want risen for super cheap. :-\
on second thought, I'll just get Painkiller Black Edition for $4.99 and skip the package. Resurrection has a 38 metacritic rating :lol
I picked up Morrowind.
I picked up Morrowind.
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/22/a-fool-in-morrowind-precis-take-2/
good list of mods that make the game look better (or at least more advanced)
how's RA3? the units are awesome and hilarious but is it actually fun to play?
Trine looks great, but kind of boring. Not as boring as Braid though. Are there any enemies at all?
Have you stole the Idol yet? That's probably the funniest part in the game.
Cool, I'll probably get it when it hits XBLA.Trine looks great, but kind of boring. Not as boring as Braid though. Are there any enemies at all?
Yes, there is a lot of combat but the game is still a platformer. The game is awesome. It's unique in that you have three characters you switch between. Unlike Lost Vikings, you can actually get through most of the game using a single character, or use their skill together by switching between them (or if playing co-op, at the same time).
Just booted Steam. I thought Valve would've fixed the Half Life 2 vista 64 compatibility issues. I still can't boot the game.(PC gaming lol)
Episode 1, 2 and Portal run perfect. Fucking Vulva, fix this shit. I want to play the HL2 mods.
I'd like to play Trine on XBLA, but man, that PSN version runs like absolute poo poo. maybe I'll impulse buy it tonight

copied from another forum:
Go to Steam- My Games, right click Half-Life 2, go down to properties. Click on 'Set Launch Options'. Put "-32bit" in the box (without the speech marks), hit okay/apply and then run the game
Trine has no combat and no puzzles, I found it pretty disappointing considering how much I love the Lost Vikings
My final wish for Steam Sale 2009 is $9.99 Dawn of War II! I will buy it for $19.99 tomorrow if it is not discounted.
How's the single player portion of Killing Floor?
i'm not buying any more games until next fall
i'll use gamefly to stay a little bit current on the console side, but between what i was gifted and what i bought over the last month or so it would be wasteful to neglect all that stuff in favor of newer, shinier, expensive games
wait, i lied a little bit
i'm probably going to buy Battlefield: Bad Company 2, I enjoyed the hell out of the PS3 beta (unsure whether PC or 360, depends on how the demo runs on my rig)
and if there is a Battlefield 1944 i'll probably buy that
otherwise, expect to hear a lot of old game talk from me on the borecast
Now that the daily sales are behind us, any "must grab" titles at only 50-66% off? ;)
prole and i exchanged steams this year and that's what he got me :-*
what an excellent bargain, matched only by the THQ pack for $50 on black friday
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl
In 1986, the world's worst nuclear disaster occurred at the Chernobyl power station.... more
$14.99 $12.99 USD
Should I buy Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon II platinum for $3.34? I like trains. I am curious about a game about trains. $3.34 seems cheaper than the pack with the newer 3d one for $16.
Also sell me on why I should buy Sid Meier's Pirates for almost $7? I like Pirates. But only $3 or so off the normal price just seems like a crappy deal.
They should just combined the series and have Sid Meier's Pirates & Trains for $10. Would be easier to swallow.
Today's sales bombed pretty hard. Except for L4D2, it looks like nobody wanted a second crack at this stuff.

Haha, I broke weak at the last minute and bought Railroad Tycoon II Platinum for $3.00 so I could play it on my netbook
Agreed on the need for an all-new last day sale but not so sure on the 'top 5 sellers' idea. Wouldn't that lead to folks waiting until the last day to buy the top selling stuff? As a retailer, you never want to do anything that encourages customers to hold off on buying, especially on what are already your top selling items.
Maybe I should get it too.
Zero Hero and I were playing Civ tonight - Beyond the Sword specifically - and it is pretty addicting online. Anyone game for joining us for a fun, laidback sandbox type multi-style game after we learn the ropes?

It was just an idea for bringing back deals - have a new day plus the top 5 sellers from the daily sales so far. So you could buy it earlier on sale, or if you missed it and it sold well you get another chance to buy it.
Still tossing ( :teehee ) over the idea of the Eidos pack just to get Batman AA...
Maybe I should get it too.I only have the retail copy of the original Civ4. :(

The Witcher EEWow i didn't even know this was on sale...goddamnit
Maybe I should get it too.I should be able to play more tonight. I thought it was fun and more players would be sweet.

Does Freedom Force work on Windows 7? the demo didn't and I'll pick it up if that was only an issue with the demo
