Title: 2010 Wishlist (Nintendo version)
Post by: Nintendosbooger on December 28, 2009, 01:32:29 PM
Nintendo has been clicking on all cylinders this generation, establishing new franchises and re-creating old ones that, in the end, will end up selling more copies than the combined number of shallow, eye-candy games saturating the market thanks to Sony and Microsoft.

While it’ll be difficult and probably downright impossible to beat their performance thus far, Nintendo still has some remaining loose ends to address to kick-start the new decade.

Here are my top 5:

1.)   A 2D Zelda for the home console – Observe the mammoth sales of NSMBWii (currently overshadowing the ho-hum success of FF13 in Japan) and one will wonder why this idea hasn’t been implemented already. Close to 5 million copies of Phantom Hourglass has been sold for the DS, and while a home console replica might not mirror its success, I believe maintaining the simplicity of PH while revamping the engine and pace of the story to better mimic Zelda: LttP would serve to catapult this hypothetical title to heights never reached by any adventure game this generation.

2.)   A 2D Metroid for the home console – Honestly, I was a bit disappointed to learn that Team Ninja was going to head the development of Other M. Save for F-Zero w/Sega and the GB Zelda games w/Capcom, all of Nintendo’s third-party collaboration have been lukewarm, and I don’t trust the pedigree of Team Ninja to produce anything Nintendo couldn’t with 1/3 the effort. I would much rather have Nintendo handle their own franchises at this point, and leave B-rated developers to their own devices.

3.)   Fatal Frame 4 – After playing SH: Shattered Memories and hearing nothing but good things about Cursed Mountain, the Wii is arguably the best home console to have if you’re a fan of survival horror games. RE4:Wii, SH, CM, FF. All top notch games from what I’ve played/heard, and it’s a shame that Tecmo has dropped the ball in bringing the game over to the western markets, further validating my earlier comments with regard to third-party collaborations.

4.)   Wii Sports 3 – The Wii has effectively stolen the sports gaming crown from EA and Konami, with the sales of Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort reaching a sales level unprecedented in the sports genre and gaming altogether. I’ve played the hell out of both, and a sequel with more games, online playability, and a ranking system would launch an existing juggernaut franchise to the moon and beyond.

5.)   Wii FPS – It’s been painfully apparent over the years that third-party developers still have yet to come up with the perfect FPS for a system that is built to house first-person shooters. We’re in the Wii’s fourth year, and a lucrative genre is being ignored as a result of third-party incompetence. With a solid effort, good marketing, and excellent polish, the Wii could very well be the first Nintendo console to be the home for console FPSs since the N64, before Microsoft usurped the crown with the overrated Halo series and other developers followed. I think it’s time for Nintendo to put a solid effort into investing in the genre and hopefully running away with it.

What about everyone else?

They've made more new properties this generation than any other console developer, so I don't know what you're smoking, chief. How many new properties have Sony and Microsoft made this generation?

Instead of debating the original topic and contributing something worthwhile to further enrich the discussion, you fuckers want to ramble on about trolls, joke characters, and peak-a-boos. How is this place supposed to distinguish itself from GAF when you've got the same hentai-loving HD nerds trolling topics?

1.  STOP WITH THE JAGGIES
2.  Make use of the entire color spectrum.  Fuck all these faded color Wii games. (NSMB, Galaxy excluded)
3.  No stupid motion shit for Wii, no more blowing shit for DS

Aka. Make a new system please.  I will buy it since I like your games.

Lol Fatal Frame 4. I totally forgot about the game. I still can't believe the game hasn't released here yet. Good thing there's a fan translation patch on its way.

Other than that, Mario Galaxy 2 is one of my most wanted games. It's probably the only Wii game I'm looking forward to.

And yes, I want the next Nintendo console to be in HD, otherwise no buy.

I haven't heard this complaint very often...compared to the washed out PS2, the Wii's colors look more radiant. I'd say the colors are about as a full as the original Xbox.

Guys, Fatal Frame 4 sucks donkey nuts. It uses motion controls to look around with the flashlight, and you run at 0 MPH.

but yeah is Nintendosbooger serious?

If he is heres a serious reply:

Nintendo have given up this gen as the cash is rolling in real fucking hard, during Gamecube days they really had to try and make some decent games, and there were quite a few and even a great new IP (Pikmin). They are pretty irrelevant these days to anyone who knows and cares about games. Nothing but overpriced, 10 year old tech, shit graphics that look like ass my HDTV, overpriced, rehashed games. Mario Galaxy is fucking amazing though, but one great game in 4 years? Come on, its not fucking good enough. I gave up on them years ago

So, the ability for gamers to discern between actual games and a child-friendly party games is elitism? Since when did Wii fanboys start using Republican talking points?

What's next, he calls us all liberal, graphics-loving figgurts with our "fancy, high-falutin'" modern gameplay and "socialist" online gaming preferences?

I think it's hard for any Wii fan to troll, because they're a Wii fan. That kind of undercuts them to begin with.

My topic here was derailed by your queer ass members who felt it was in their interest to deteriorate the debate to this level. Look at all my posts and history before you open your soup-cooler.

What I am able to discern from Nintendosbooger, besides the fact that he obviously doesn't really enjoy playing actual videogames (hence his Wii affiliation, home of the non-game), is that he is probably fat and a closet homo.

I hesitate for some other stuff because its mostly third party collaborations that were published by Nintendo

For someone as tech-head as you, I'm surprised you can overlook the chuggy framerate and constant jittering pauses as the game loads assets off the disc.  Good fun otherwise, but I'd recommend you don't buy any weapons except for the smg or the first shotgun.  The automatic weapons make the game far too easy.
Title: Re: 2010 Wishlist (Nintendo version)
Post by: cool breeze on December 29, 2009, 02:42:11 AM
yeah, I went through Overkill only using handguns.  Shotguns and other weapons destroy your accuracy rating anyway.  That frame rate hiccup thing is the only thing that really bothered me about the gameplay.  I wasn't a fan of the try hard grindhouse style cutscenes, but you can mostly ignore those, and other people seemed to like them; I'm just not a fan of the intentionally overdone to be grindhouse style.
Title: Re: 2010 Wishlist (Nintendo version)
Post by: EmCeeGrammar on December 29, 2009, 02:47:10 AM
Dude, the auto shotgun is the only gun you need.  I'd say its good for almost 100 percent accuracy. But the game is virtualy no challenge at that point.

Fzero went the way of 1080 snowboarding, waverace, and starfox.  Not enough sales to justify development.

I wish they would get around to making a 2d pokemon rpg for wii. The wiimote can hold save data so you could bring over your pokemons to someone elses place and do trades and shit.

Do you have to import or are there plenty of stores stocking on Euro games? Stores around here usually stock on both versions equally.

The US release is definitely happening though, but any more than a 2 month delay would be unacceptable imo.

I've only seen some mom and pop shops carry japanese imports.  Otherwise, ya, internet.

edit:  And NoA has been notorious the past few years of not releasing finished translations because they don't think the game will sell.  Did picross ds do well?  Someone hail Segata.

For what it was, it sold well.  Over 110k.  Under 130k.

Fossil Fighters and Starfy sold in the same ballpark, so chances are pretty good I say!

I know, but part of the reason I think NoA is localising obscuri like Glory of Heracles is because they might think 110k-200k is profitable for their ds line.  Keep in mind I don't know what I am talking about
