Wtf, seriously. The game looks like absolute ass for one, and the game was so insipid, what was the point of this SP? It felt like filler the whole way through holy shit.
Bungie has lost it.

Halo Overpriced Deleted Scenes and various Tripe
Yeah, I'm really that witty.
-
It was an overpriced marketing scheme but then I think most of the blame for that can be placed on Microsoft trying to squeeze another big fall release when they didn't have the content to do so rather than Bungie. You can generally lay the blame for these things at the foot of the publisher rather than the dev.
I think it's probably fine for half the price it shipped at or something closer to the GTA DLC packs but for $60 dollars it deserves some kicks.
-
That may be true, but I think Bungie was plenty full of it as well. The lack of content didn't bother me nearly as much as the fact that the unique and new take on Halo was really nowhere to be seen. It basically played like any other Halo, which is fine since Halo plays well and all, but Bungie talked up the ODST thing plenty.
-
I think its pretty clear based on the way Bungie keeps talking about the time spent on ODST versus Reach that they knew exactly where one stands in relation to the other. Wasn't the whole thing supposed to be DLC in the first place?
I'm sure Microsoft stepped in and changed that quickly once they saw the relative poor sales of the GTA DLC (which is unfortunate since whatever you think about those games, those are the best quality level, and content level DLC this gen imo) and they knew they could milk ODST into something.
As far as them talking it up, once your name is on it, that's simply what any dev is going to do. They can't run away from something that has their name on it.
-
My friend kept making me play Firefight one day. So boring.

Talking up your game, that's expected. Referencing imaginary shit is just weird.

Well I thought the "hub world" was simply a gimmick in the first place. I think it does have a slightly different tone and aesthetic look and music tone, than the prior halos but I agree it's simply another Halo game. Which is fine. A lot of people really enjoy that so nothing wrong with that but running around in the dark with that visor was more gimmick than anything that actually differentiated the title in a true manner.
I use my nephew as a gauge since he is a big Halo fan (and rather good at the game) and he was pissed and felt ODST was a rip-off. I showed him the trailer for Reach and he was definitely more interested in that.
-
The hub level sucked after a few missions though, it was so boring. I liked the bite sized levels you did outside of it though, there just weren't enough
-
wrong thread.
-
Well, at least Bungie was able to get the real Nathan Fillion and not some imitation.
What was the point in any case? To spend money? :lol
There's so little voice acting.
-
I'll play this at some point, but I had to lol at the $54.99 used price tag at gamestop. can't believe this game is full price.
-
i had some fun with the other #eb guys playing firefight and levels on legendary
by myself though it was pretty boring
-
I played maybe the first couple of mission in ODST before getting bored out of my fucking mind.
I think I'm pretty much done with Halo.
-
Beat it on Legendary by myself, not the hardest game out there. Only keeping it to clean up the multi (if i ever bother to) and Halo Reach

My friend said the same thing and i was like holy crap since he loves halo.
Now hes currently playing MW2
-
Played through the first half of the game and haven't really cared enough to finish it. Firefight got old quick, but since I love Halo 3 MP, I am keeping the game just for the Mythic disc. ODST seems to have already been forgotten about thanks to Modern Warfare 2 anyway.
-
I enjoyed it for the most part. The hub world stuff seemed cool at first, like really toned down Far Cry 2, but then I realized it never really became more.

The problem with the hub world was that it was not a city. It didn't look like a city. It didn't have the diversity of a city or the scale of a city.
Far Cry 2 and games like GTA actually nail the city part becaue it's huge and spread apart. Ideally it would have at least been dense if they couldn't go for the size scale thing.
In ODST the environment you went through didn't feel like a city at all. It felt like a mini-tron level.

I'm playing through ODST eventually. Got it for christmas, mainly for just the multiplayer anyways.

And it was the EMPTIEST city in a game outside of maybe No More Heroes or something. Handful of enemies and no civilians at all. Just a total fail in terms of making a believable environment. Bungie STILL hasn't made good on the promises of the Halo 2 trailer. I basically like the Halo combat so I'll probably finish it but really it was a joke putting this out at full price.

There is a reason why there are no civilians in there...the worst thing that Bungie could do is to put some lame jrpg civilians in there.
Oh look there is a civilian, lets go and talk to him, blob pops out "The weather is nice today"...comes back 10 hours later and the weather is still nice.

Hey, just because YOU don't have the imagination to do it interestingly...

I enjoyed both single player and multiplayer. Then again, I like the Halo-verse more than I like the games. I love the storyline, and any continuation of that is great for me. I've read all the novels, and I'm currently reading through the new one.
