Title: Usavich is fucking hilarious (cartoons inside)

I have no clue if this cartoon airs in the US, so prior apologies if it's something all you guys know about already.

This is a CG cartoon that airs on MTV Asia.  The protagonists are a couple of imprisoned Russian rabbits, Kirenenko (in red) and Putin (in green).  Kirenenko is a murderous mafia boss with a sneaker-collecting obsession, while Putin is a laborer who inadvertently committed some minor offense.

The show finished its third season and each cartoon is just a minute and a half long, self-contained but with a continuing "plot."

Here are some of the shorts.  The cartoons completely rely on sound effects and music and have no dialogue, which is one of the reasons I'm not sure whether they've appeared in the US or not:

Hasn't appeared in the U.S. yet, but I learned about it my last trip to Japan. It is pretty awesome.

I think the third season may have been the final one. :(

Usually when I go to the Loft or Village Vanguard stores, I always check out the Usavich merchandise...some of it is really creative (and/or weird).  They even have a pretty huge (like over a foot tall) dancing Putin doll that costs almost $200.

Yeah, that's actually where I found out about it! I went to Loft to buy Mameshiba merchandise for friends in the states, and there was an Usavich section looping all the shorts. You probably can exactly visualize where I was in Loft. :lol

I have to give props to the animators on the series, because the character designs are pretty outstanding.  They really veered off from the school of cutesy Sanrio-style character design that's so prevalent in Japanese merchandising.

Lately these types of characters seem to be becoming more popular.

EDIT: The Loft is where I found out about the show as well, pretty much exactly the same situation.  They had the videos looping in the merchandise section.

Wikipedia doesn't say anything about it, and I'm pretty sure these have just aired on TV.  Don't animation shorts have to air theatrically first before they can be considered for an Academy Award?

Yeah, the third season is also up on youtube.

I'm pretty sure that's the final season, since from what Patel says, they've moved on to a new series of shorts.

There's plenty of Lofts around, it's a fairly big chain.  I know there's one in Shibuya.  Village Vanguard carries plenty of Usavich goods too.  We'll go to a Loft when you and your wife come here next year.
