Title: I finally have a nice thing!
Post by: EmCeeGrammar on December 29, 2009, 02:04:19 PM
I'm wondering if there's anything on the ipod app store that's playable. I like my waggle box, but the super monkey ball game I got sucks because, as expected, you mess up your view of the action by tilting the screen. Goodbye eight dollars (or did I miss the demo option???)  I guess I'm okay with finger prodding as long as its not too demanding with alot of shit happening at once.

I thought you bought a 360/PS3/gaming PC, but at least you finally upgraded from the Wii.

I bought it for playing music.  But if there are any time wasters that aren't completely stupid, that would be nice to know.

Except I bought the wii for the wagglewand, not just mario. :wag

And I knew exactly how demi was going to respond.  Getting so predictable son.

Geo Defense Swarm, Robocalypse, and the Dexter game are decent (though I haven't put much time into any of them). There was an iPhone/Touch gaming thread floating around

Nice upgrade from the Wii's 1999 hardware.

So far everything just looks like high rez ds stuff.

Funny you mention that. While I was searching for the best Sudoku app the other day I found this game. I haven't played it yet though.

Also, my list is missing a bunch of simulators and other wacky games which I had forgotten about. There are all sorts of wacky jappy including dating and pachinko sims, remakes of PC classics, to flying and social sims.

Therein lies the iTunes AppStore's biggest issue; a massive amount of content with no simple way to organize or parse it. There are so many great games that lie hidden under the mountain of garbage. Even within your own App catalogue there isn't a simple way to organize them yourself. It's just a massive window with all your apps in it.

All that work and not even a thanks from EmCeeGrammar :'(

THANKS

I've been asleep.

do you guys play your iphones a lot?  I've bought a lot of stuff, mostly on sale/$.99, but I barely use it for games.  Same for a lot of people I know with them.

Slime covered (heh) most of the stuff I would've suggested, but I'll add a few.

Dungeon Hunter, which is basically Diablo in your pocket.
Mevo and the Grooveriders, a fun rhythm/platform game.
Alive4Ever, twin-stick Zombie shooter with RPG elements
Undead Attack! Pinball - remember Pinball of the Dead on the GBA?  Pretty much.
Hi, How Are You? - weird, fun platform/puzzle game based on the art and music of Daniel Johnston
UniWar, awesome TBS game.

I'll also mention a couple of neat/useful apps you should check out:

Stanza - this is a ereader app, and it's free.  Compatible with a ton of ereader formats.  iPhone/Touch makes a surprisingly decent book reader once you tweak your brightness/font/background.

Comiczeal, a comic book reader.

Both of these use desktop programs to transfer/convert files to your iPod, but they're both extremely easy to use.

A few questions

-my ipod is set to the correct time, but it says I live in Cupertino, CA.  When I try to set it to my city the time is 3 hours ahead.  Any idea how to fix this?
-do only certain apps have demos?  The only time I can find a demo is if I search under the free tab.  If I just try to select an app I can see some screens, info, and the buy button but never see a demo button.

I've had my phone for over a year now and still haven't downloaded a single game, mainly use it for browsing and as an ipod but after seeing these recommendations I might try a few freebies.
