despite all apparent evidence, i actually don't have a particular liking for the anime style; it just happens to occur in games with mechanics i like -- but even *i* have a limit

the first one is very awful. 2 is a great traditional rpg, though, with a developed battle system; and while 3 was largely pap, both the mana-khemia titles were OH GOD WHAT AM I SAYING

i would probably be a lot happier as a whole if the localization work stripped out all the uguu graphics and replaced them with grr burly plastic men, but even then the plots are almost as indefensible

yea the first one was awful but as they made more game the quality of them improved,and 3 is good,it features a job system akin to the one of ff5,there are a fewer classes but the battle system makes up for it

Tweeny Witches was pretty decent though and not even in a :uguu fashion.  It was one of those stylish animes that 4C put out at the start like Tekkon Kinkreet or Kemonozume.  Wouldn't lump it into the Ar Tonelico / Idea Factory / games icecream likes genre of humiliation of humanity.


And what's wrong with Kino's Journey?

As Lyte speculated, the Japanese game market is drying up, and despite the cooling of the manga/anime market in the USA, it may still be in healthier shape than the Japanese games market.

However, I think what they're doing is at least canny. The market for this kind of game is already the kind of person who will buy import items like this. They are not targeting a mainstream audience, and they're pandering correctly to the western-anime-fan, or at least the big-eyes-small-mouths-and-a-bottle-of-Jergen's crowd. I wouldn't be surprised if the special edition sold out even as the standard copies were plentiful and later ended up severely discounted.

On GAF it's just The Take Out Bandit calling me out, because I am forever associated with KOF Maximum Impact and the Ikkitousen beat-em-up in his eyes.   :lol 

I still stand by my opinion that Maximum Impact was a good first effort (but incredibly flawed) from SNK, with just about everything fixed in the sequel, and the game just made AWESOME in Regulation A.  It's too bad that fatty Falcoon quit SNK and they dropped the series after that.

Record of Agarest War doesn't have any nudity or whatever, the people who buy the game are going to be completely disappointed when they realize that the mosaics in the advertising were covering up pieces of clothing instead of genitalia.

The Queen's Blade game doesn't have any nudity either.  Just some super-deformed sprites with breasts bigger than their heads.   :lol  Every animated cut scene I have unlocked in-game has essentially been the same thing, too: Several of the female characters are in some sort of situation where there's a focus on their breasts, and the one male character just looks on and goes "DURRRRRRRR :drool"  Top notch storyline.

Couldn't remember how it looks in-game since I usually have the animations turned off.  Battles take too long with them enabled, so I only view them when getting a new attack or when I can get a bonus attack from destroying one part of their armor.  The latter's body part targeting feature (all those bits of armor shown at the bottom of the video) is only for the female enemies you encounter, naturally.   :lol

I'm pretty sensitive to the endangerment of children, and the sexual exploitation of them, but one pic out of context doesn't make it what you're describing. Within the context of Japanese culture, there's nothing remotely weird about it, but as a westerner I agree with all three gripes listed on that page by MS.

The linked page makes a big deal about censorship from MS, but dollars to donuts this wasn't shown to MS EU or PEGI when it was submitted for release; this is more likely about liability and the publisher respecting their contractual agreements.

Edit/Add: I re-read the linked article; it mentions indie-games, and a later commenter posts a snippet from the XNA guidelines, saying that games need to be OK for the whole world, every region where XBL is offered. So basically XNA is at the very center of the venn diagram where all this overlaps. I know it's hard to draw attention to indie titles on PC, but it's got to be easier than jumping through all those hoops.
