From firmware updates, PSN/PSone/PSP games, to title updates, everything just seems to take way too long. I even tried downloading my PSP stuff from the Media Go software on my notebook, thinking it could be the PS3, but this thing is still super slow. I would use the PSN rental store if downloads weren't so sluggish. Does anyone have a similar experience? I don't even bother with demos anymore since I feel like I'm going back to '97, scheduling my downloads overnight. Has the Slim somehow fixed this?

because psn sucks.
-
Usually the reason for slow downloads for any reason regardless of what we're talking about is a poor configuration of the users network. I had similar problems until I replaced my old modem. Haven't had any issues since.
-
My PSN downloads are really fast.
You just need to get a better internet connection.
-
Download speeds are fine on my end, but I'm getting fed up with everything requiring an update, including the frequent firmware updates. LBP was the worst game in that respect, asking for an update damned near every time I booted it up.
-
It's a bit odd for me. PSN is really fast on my PS3 while MediaGo on my PC is really slow. It's slow on my PSP via wifi too and assume that's because of wifi but both my PC and PS3 are wired. It's not like other downloads on my PC are slow.

If you're wireless with your PS3 then you're doing it wrong. Plug that shit in.

you get what you pay for :smug

Downloads are pretty quick for me.

This. ......although I gotta say that some of my download speeds off PSN can be pretty freaking atrocious at times. All depends though. Still, the 360 generally downloads much faster.
The constant updating is beyond ridiculous and the fact that the games won't let you skip 'em is even more distinguished mentally-challenged. I hadn't touched LBP in months and then decided to pop it in to see what was up but then I was hit with a series of 14 or so updates, one right after the other. Instead of just one big plug in, I was forced to sit through 14 seperate updates each with their own loading and installing procedures. Nearly 30 minutes of that bs.
The PS3 does a lot right in many areas but that OS of theirs is completely fucked imo.

It's not terribly slow. It's just slow compared to my PCs, smartphone, and other consoles. I've tested this with downloading demos of comparable size in both 360 and PS3 and the PS3 downloads always take much, much longer. And it has always been this way. I'm on wireless, BTW.
-
The LBP updates are content packs. Be glad you get them.
But I usually get around 16mbps down. It's all about setting up UPnP properly, I guess.
-
It's only trying to do everything at once, so will you just back off, man?!?!

plug it in. problem solved
-
My 360 is parked right next to it, both are wireless, 360 is faster.

wireless on ps3 sucks. always has. plug it in. problem solved

Not going to that trouble for a console I rarely use for online. I'm not even using PS3 wireless, I'm using a Belkin gaming adapter.

I once heard the servers are all in japan, but surely there's no way it can still be like that.

Everyone I know that is in Japan or was Japan has said that PSN performance was pretty snappy there. But Japan's broadband infrastructure spanks the US's anyhow.

My PS3 takes way longer to download stuff than my 360, and I'm not using wireless on either of them.

Same here. It's not even close.

Where do you guys live? Maybe you aren't close to one of their servers? Maybe your ISPs throttle downloads on certain ports? Maybe your router has QoS turned on and is incorrectly throttling the PS3?
Under the Internet Connection Test is it NAT Type 1 or 2? If it's 3, that means your PS3 is firewalled.
-
I just checked, and it says that PS3 sucks
-
i've been wireless on ps3 since launch...never had a problem, always got full speed
this wireless = shit speed/unplayable for online games thing is just wrong. technology has improved a lot etc

I don't get lag in games at all, it's just the download speeds.
-
I never get lag in games even when I'm dling a torrent.
But like, I'll leave my ps3 on all night to dl demos and I wake up and they're STILL dling.

Ditto. It's gotta be their PSN servers.
-
There are so many things to factor in cases like this, you literally cannot just say "lol psn sux". You guys realize your PS3 doesnt have a direct connection to the PSN servers, right?

lol. You have to play online to experience lag.
-
I've played uncharted 2 and lbp online and have had zero lag.
-
no lag with littlebigplanet?
pick something believable next time :wag
