this hipster approves
One day Michael Cera will hit puberty and will be unable to play socially awkward teenaged hipster.
i read the first three books. it was good, but the references were kind of overdone and embarrassing at times.
I don't think I can get past Cera's stupid constant neutral expression face. They should have used Cera 2.0 (of Zombieland), he's certainly more emotive.
Its an Edgar Wright movie. Dudes, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz. If anybody can pull off a not-shitty Cera pic, its him.
I like Cera. I just think he's been typecast too much and this and Youth in Revolt look like great movies for him to break out of his awkward teenage obligatory role.
As a fan of the books, I still worry about the movie though. I can't be the only one who'd prefer an animated tv series on Adult Swim than a live action movie, can I? I mean, we're talking about comic books where the main character says things like,"Hey, I just played the bassline from Final Fantasy IV's battle song!"
Can you imagine hearing something like that in a live action movie? No; this needs to be a cartoon. Especially the fights where Scott fights the boyfriends.
I mean, the band's name is Sex Bob-omb.
Who thought a live action Scott Pilgrim would be a good idea? It'll take a helluva lot to make this work while having what makes the books so charming.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Pilgrim (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Pilgrim)QuoteThe series is about 24-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, and part-time bassist who is living in Toronto and plays bass guitar in the band "Sex Bob-Omb." He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven "evil exes[1] " in order to date her.

I'm ashamed this is Canadian.
Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, bassist for The Clash at Demonhead and vegan-powered superhero

Just wait till we bust out the pic of the writer/artist of the books, while wearing a Japanese Tony the Tiger t-shirt.

noooooooooooooooooooo
Yeah, they fuck on the regular.
The last book in particular was groan worthy with the stupid romance sub-plots. I read Scott Pilgrim for the nerd jokes, not the awkward "romance".

the last book was the best because it was more than stupid nerd jokes
if you want stupid nerd jokes there are a billion books that cater to that demographic

the worst thing is I almost bought that shirt a few years ago. I didn't, but sometimes I lie awake at night, worrying that shirt is the only thing that separates me from Brian Lee O'Malley

I don't just want nerd stuff. Let me rephrase. I like everything about Scott Pilgrim. Except the romance.

it's all nerd stuff with romance and an examination of the melancholia of growing older and losing friends as you grow apart
For starters, Cera is Michael Cera. He's always cute, charming, and you know exactly what you're going to get from him. That's not taking anything away from him, he's great in this...but still, he's Michael Cera.
My life is uninteresting as fuck but the story in my game is profound; thesis refuted.
much like The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which fortunately tanked.
Just more hipster dumbfuckery - much like The Fantastic Mr. Fox, which fortunately tanked.
