Yeah I am thinking about doing a short course on screen writing.
-
I don't think I can make it! You can remove me from that list!
-
"So else here is delusional enough they can 'make it' as a writer"
Stop making threads Arvie.
-
Yeah that was kinda the point\joke.
I can't make it too. I think FoC is the only one that will do it.
-
I wrote short stories in school and won numerous awards, I think I could crank out a good film.
:wtf

Most of Evilbore's films would contain too much gay subtext for mainstream audiences.

But just the right amount for the Oscars.

I am trying to develop a comedy project with a friend of mine that's an aspiring stand-up out in Hollywood. I guess I said something about Avatar and The Hurt Locker over the phone, and now I'm being incorporated into his material. Avatar wins again. :-\
He's friends with Kevin McDonald (from Kids in the Hall) and Jonathan Kesselman (the Hebrew Hammer) now. Kevin jacked his iPhone and was posting inappropriate comments on his Facebook over the weekend. Such as:
[My Friend's Name] Just realized he likes
Jews especially

They were awards given out in school an by teachers. Back in the day, I did well enough (in general but I excelled in reading and math) that one year I was offered the chance to got to a Magnet school but didn't obviously or my life would be a whole lot different.
Couldn't have been the one Mandark and I attended! No Arvies allowed!
-
I was actually offered to do the accelerated highschool program because of my reading comprehension FYI Wilco :maf
CAT tests :'(

Was it the accelerated high school program for Russian immigrants with broken English?

How did you know?

Canada!

Canada!
:rock
-
Arvie could make it in Canada considering all he'll have to compete with is Corner Gas.
-
Malek
No. The best I could hope for is creating a third Amir0x xtranormal cartoon.
-
I don't plan on writing for film or anything, but I'm interning in LA for a television and I'm going to see if I can brush up on some TV writing through the studio I'm interning at.
-
Where are you interning at?
-
I finished a story that I'm currently in the process of shopping around and I'm roughly halfway through another story [part one of a planned series] that I'm working towards having finished by the end of January. Aside from those two, I've got three others in various states of completion that I may or may not get around to finishing.
That's novel writing, by the way, not screenplay writing.
As for the delusion part: Yes, very much so.
-
I'm not sure yet as it's still a year off, but we've had people get into NBC programs, like the Tonight Show (or when Conan was in NY, Late Night), and as far as I know, anyway, that's still possible for someone in my current situation and major. I'm going to shoot for the Tonight Show...hopefully by then it's still Conan. If not, I'll look towards other studios.
I'm using it as an opportunity to just be around the entire process of production, even though I want to be a music supervisor. My current major has flexible and broad opportunities for internships.

If psychotic, paragraph-long rants become popular, put me on the list! 8)

Dunno if this info is good for you GS, but seemed relevant

I wrote a novel during a bout with alcohol poisoning by vomitting half-digested alphabet soup into a stack of blank animal vellum.
Publishers laughed me out of the building though.
I'm going to have to self-publish this shit.
It's just that revolutionary.
-
You probably shouldn't be worried about your story being compared to GitS and Alita, especially if you're not going to be pushing for it to be made into a movie.
-
i have decided i am incapable of writing for anyone but myself and have retired that fantasy
-
You could always go for a Bret Easton Ellis style.
heh, I wish...or maybe not--I couldn't come within a mile of his insane rants in American Psycho. That's the one book that's made me literally recoil from gory imagery. My rants are more from an imaginary aspergers character I occasionally "post" as on the internet.
-
In 10th grade.
I had a few things that an English teacher and some professor from a university in Omaha thought were worthy of being published. One was a far left wing rant on trade that was supposed to be in some local far left wankrag but I (fortunately) declined.
There is an influx of wannabe writers and blog superstars. At this point, the field is saturated and I'd only be writing for myself or at the very best, a small group of people who can just as easily move onto something else (and most likely will).
-
i have nothing to say worth reading and no original way of doing so, so i gave that hope up in my 20s
i now channel all of my writing strengths into inane forum posts
-
Also, I steal all my screenplay ideas from Eric P now.
-
unforch i don't really have anything salable
-
I thought your idea about the vampire pimp that only eats Kosher was pretty good.
-
yeah, but you said i had to drop the metaphors that tied it all back to Adi Shankaracharya's work laid out against The Upanishads and let's face it, if the movie isn't really about Indian Poetry Form, then it's really not worth making
-
DOUBLE TRUE
-
i've written a novel and countless short stories, although i gave up trying to make money at it after receiving several rejection letters on the same day
when i was just out of high school i wrote a play that won a regional award here in nc for my old drama class
i still dabble here and there, but i don't entertain thoughts of ever being noticed (if you like to write you don't ever stop doing it, be it on paper or inside your head)
so i don't always type like this, is what i'm trying to say
-
I think you should write a whole novel in Internet form and release it online, so people can read it like a text message. These kids will buy anything these days!
-
title it "U MAD?"
-
there's an app in the iphone application store which is purporting to be a style guide for twitter

Ooh, innovative!
-
yeah, DMing is a good way to get the story telling itch out of your system
-
title it "U MAD?"
:lol
-
I think it's just intellectual masturbation. But it feels good.
-
I don't even know who that is!
-
I know that Mr. Segal, I don't know who Robert Jordan is. Picture or no picture.
-
I gave up on this years ago when I realised there's no money to be made
-
You guys read too? The what are you reading thread is not getting a lot of love.
I read all the time. However since nobody else posts in that thread, neither do I.
-
yeah, same

Unless you write LotR/Star Wars crossover fanfiction.
-
well i was doing sports writing, but yes you're right.
-
(Lack of) creativity is my most discouraging flaw. I guess I should just be happy I'm not one of those pretentious twats that actually thinks their toilet paper-worthy drivel merits publication
-
I still might pursue business or periodical writing of some sort -- I'm incredibly lazy, though. I'm definitely an analytical, non-fiction type; I wouldn't ever even attempt to write a novel. (Cue "what would you call your old posts at GAF, then?" :P) There's decent coin to be made by copywriters and editors if you're doing it as a secondary source of income.
-
I don't think you have to be delusional to think you could make it as a writer. Just looking over the shelves of any bookstore, you can see that a lot of people do get published. Granted that number might be pretty small in comparison to the number of people who are trying to get published, but there is still a pretty good market for fiction out there. Some new author has to get published in any given year; why couldn't one of us be that person?
Thread should be retitled to "who here thinks they're delusional enough to write a novel worth a shit".

omg, Loki returns!

so, in conclusion, a bunch of EBer's want to be writers, but only Green Shinobi is truly deluded enough to think he'll make it. And he should speak to Green Man for help in readjusting his expectations.
