Title: Army of Two Two
Post by: duckman2000 on January 12, 2010, 09:12:47 PM
Picked this up today, and it's been a lot better than I expected it to be. It can be a bit rough around the edges, but the shootouts have all been cool, and fighting along the side of a toppled skyscraper is pretty cool.

One complaint is that the lowest sensitivity setting is still quite high. Thought it was a bit too sensitive so I went into the menu to lower, and was surprised to find that it was already at the lowest setting.

Anyone else buying this? I haven't checked out the co-op yet, just the SP.

I can't really remember all that much from the first game, but I'm pretty sure this one is a lot better, in SP at least. There have been some unfortunate moments of monster-closetism and I the newfangled cover system is a bit of a bitch, but the high points have so far more than made up for the lows.

I thought the controls in the demo were ass.

Other than the sensitivity, controls seem alright to me, but then I'm not a mossy conservative. There also doesn't seem to be a ton of aim assist.

I liked the controls but the netcode was basically unplayable.  Like I move the right stick and it'll take two seconds before the reticule moves.  Hopefully they fixed that by now.

Started the 3rd chapter. The last chapter started feeling a lot like Rainbow Six Vegas towards the end, until it ended with something completely not Vegas, but still cool. The shooting feels spot on, but some of the commands are janky. Like, when you're asked to assist the other player, it sometimes doesn't seem to register the first button press, which makes it feel a bit artificial. Other co-op aspects are transparent and really well executed, so that stands out.

Oh yeah, and does every damned game really need to have a minigun-wielding super-soldier?

Ah, you mean 2Armyof2; I meant the original when I offered co-op: sorry!

I'll pick it up this Fall during Gamefly's end of the year sale. I'm sure it will be $12.99 or less.

I think the issue they are encountering has to do with the need for enemy variety in an environment loosely grounded in reality.  With something firmly rooted in fantasy (such as Gears of War) it is easy to devise all manner of crazy enemies for the player to fight, but when the setting for your game is something more realistic you have to try and ground it to a degree.

I'm sure there is a better solution to the problem, of course...

On that topic, I've seen a few reviews lament the lack of enemy variety, and I don't get that. It's not a sci-fi shooter, and this standard doesn't seem to apply to other current era shooters.
