jay run webWe are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly.
YOU TOOK THE WRONG JAY, LORD
yeah, sucks
YOU TOOK THE WRONG JAY, LORD
So, according to the geniuses at gaf, that song in the first video apparently sounds like shit.
I don't get it. Do some of them over there only like stuff when it sounds like a rare velvet underground bootleg recorded with a tin-version phonograph?
it's gaf
who gives a fuck what they think?

The video in this thread's OP? What? It's fucking awesome. I've never heard of this guy, but I'm interested after seeing that. Reminds me of my childhood, this type of music.

there's a lot of this kind of stuff out there right now. poppy garage punk stuff, mostly because of Jay.
check out some acts like NoBunny, Hunx and the Punks (uh, this is probably the evilbore gay subtext house band, so beware) and the like. It's really quite fun but if you immerse yourself into it, there's a tendency for it to all run together

edit: Genghis I believe they're complaining about the sound quality. I think it's their distinguished mentally-challenged notion of "selling out" or whatever.

when i started stealing all music that wasn't nailed down and realized that everyone else was also, i gave up my youthful anger on the concept of "selling out"
make that money anyway you can
The commercial aspect of music is shitty, I'm surrounded by it. But mostly just by the big motherfuckers like Warner and Sony. All the acts that sign to lesser labels like Matador, Domino, Sire, Asthmatic Kitty, whatever, they're doing what's best for their careers and getting good money without having to deal with the awful corporate dicks of some of these big Nashville/LA/NY companies.
It's an art first and a business second, but its not very far away from first.

Is this the guy from dinosaur jr.? If not, what early 90's band was he in? I had a friend who was a big fan of his back then.
Apparently this is being investigated as a homicide.
