I'm making bread pudding with a bourbon sauce, but I'm not too familiar with bourbon at all. What's the best?
-
Woodford Reserve. Far and away.
It alongside Blue Grass (not lawn grass but suspicious shrubbery) are two of Kentucky's greatest treasures.
-
woodford reserve

There are so many bourbons, and I haven't tried all of them.
Woodford is my favorite so far, but I hear Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are good as well.
-
+1 Woodford. Got a bottle of that for my birthday a couple years ago and since then I haven't bought any other bourbon, unless I'm broke and have to get something cheap.

I think it's hilarious that drewsy keeps raggin on Kentucky, when he's from Ohio, the biggest shithole in the US other than Detroit.

kentucky bore, if your nearest neighbor is more than 10 miles away is having sex with your sister considered incest, or just being economical?
-
I'm not sure that anyone who lives in Ohio has room to talk about Kentucky.
-
have you ever been to ohio? have you ever been to kentucky? walking the line from ohio to kentucky is like stepping foot into a genepool of raw sewage, everything smells like grease and everyone looks like they were born in walmart. ohio has cleveland and cincinatti, we have black people, were less than 3 hours away from the second biggest city in america, and the cornfield thing is a myth, i could go on but i wont

Comparing Kentucky to Ohio is like comparing Alabama to Florida. Not that Drew isn't a jerk, but you guys are making quite the stretch.

Pappy Van Winkle is the best bourbon in the world...bar none. 15 and 20 year is the best, the 23 is overpriced and not that much better than the 20.
Sorry guys but Woodford is overrated. For the first seven years that it was on sale they were using Old Forester in the Woodford bottles. Once the distillery became fully functional and they began producing bourbon from their own barrels the quality became better, but sure as hell didn't catch up with the price. Almost 40 bucks for a 750ml of Woodford is highway robbery.
Eagle Rare is a helluva choice for a great bourbon at an inexpensive price. Less than 30 and it will run circle around many older (it is 10yr) and more expensive bourbons.

I'm pretty sure that Ohio is more than three hours from Los Angeles.

we have black people,
:lol Yeah, that's something to be proud of!
fake edit: whoops, wrong message board!
-
Kentucky Bore, how many black people have you met irl?
-
Himu....drew is just being a douche.
-
Are you sure? I thought Kentucky didn't have black people.
-
no, none at all.
Thank god they all moved to Cincinnati. Our women like the small white penis.

On the bourbon: Woodford Reserve is the best bourbon, but not to cook with. It's a sipping whiskey for Christ's sake! To cook, use something like Maker's Mark or Buffalo Trace. Another good flavor is found in Knob Creek, which would have to be my second favorite.
About Ohio: I used to live in Ohio, and I still have a lot of family there. You know the best part about Ohio? The part where I moved out of that piss-poor state. Honestly, if it weren't for my loyalty to the Bengals, I'd move to have the whole damn state nuked. I moved to Kentucky, BTW. :lol

Why is Woodford so good? The choice seems unanimous in this thread.

The smoothest taste in bourbon and a great flavor as well. You see exactly where your money goes when you drink it.

i am intrigued but i doubt i could find it here

While lame and overtaxed, the state liquor stores here in Utah have a pretty excellent selection. I was able to find all the bourbons mentioned here there, as well as most of the good stuff listed in the GAF single malt whisky thread.
Not that I'm gonna be buying any expensive bottles soon...

It is hard to find anywhere. We only get it in my shop a few times a year and only in small quantities. The boubon freaks come in and snatch it up in a couple of days. If you ever see it available in a bar definitely try it....best bourbon made.
-
ok, there are a few whiskey specific bars in nyc
i'll give a look
edit: whiskey ward carries it.
Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve 15yr
Pappy Van Winkle 20 yr
Pappy Van Winkle 23 yr
now to just find an excuse to get to whiskey ward
-
remember that the 23yr is overpriced for what it is. I am not sure how much it would be in a bar but here is the approximate breakdown of price per bottle at my shop:
12yr - 42.00
15yr - 55.00 <--- best value. Great stuff.
20yr - 125.00 <--- best taste overall
23yr - 230.00 <--- not worth the money. I have never spoken to anyone that thought 3 more years of aging was worth twice the price. Of course, YMMV.
