Title: FF12 Replay Thread

Started earlier today. I'll probably get some good mileage on this before Tuesday when Mass Effect 2 comes out. I'd like to attempt a speedrun, but I don't know how to speed run FF12.

Beat Rogue Tomato. Gonna grind on hyena pelts at Giza Plains next.

Post by: Fortus on January 23, 2010, 06:01:58 PM: I started a replay about a week ago after all those music clips were posted in Borys' thread. Currently at Phon coast on my way to the Imperial city. Did enough of the hunts so that Bubble Belts are available but really they just aren't needed atm. Main party is Vaan as tank with Ashe and Panelo as mages using Bows. Goal for this playthrough is to get all the Pirate's Den stuff.

Balthier and Fran will be mages while Vaan tanks.

Post by: Fortus on January 23, 2010, 06:38:29 PM: If you open the Clan Primer you'll see Pirate's Den. Click on that and it's a 2D anime interior of the Strahl. When you do certain things you'll get a character to appear there: Montblanc shows up after you do your first 50-chain for example

Going through those foggy areas before you hit Gigas door reminded me how rediculous the King Behemoth hunt was and since you need to do that hunt for one of the "trophies" I'll probably just finish up the story. Maybe I'll get lucky spawning him this time who knows

My progress update:

Level 30, at Mt. Bur-Omisace.

Managed to get Vaan a War Hammer at Henne Mines.

17 hours clocked, which is pretty bad for what I'm going for.

Took out the Eryut Dragon with ease, did a few hunts. Still need 6 more hunts to unlock them fookin' bubble belts.

17 hunts taken down, level 55, 26 hours, two fomalhauts and one deathbringer. Berserk + Decoy = lol. Should knock the game out in sub-30 hours.

My impression of FF12 actually got better this playthrough. I know the game so well now that the story's pacing is less of a problem for me now, although it's far from ideal, it no longer feels like "Sorry Mario, the princess is in another castle" anymore. That's good. Playing the whole game with gambits as opposed to fighting the game by not playing with gambits also makes the game shit easy. Wow.

Post by: Himu on March 06, 2010, 05:27:24 PM: What's interesting is when I first beat it my clock was 75 hours. I did roughly the same amount of stuff (around 18 hunts, fomalhats, death bringer) and I managed to beat the game is more than half that time.

Amazing.

I still remember most of the story just fine, but not specifically why I'm at the sandsea.
