Looking for something in the $100-150 range, though I might spring and get the 16gb Zune if it's that much worth it. My iPod's battery is kaput, and I don't want to pay premiums for Apple/use iTunes again. Preferably something around 16+ gbs, resilient, good battery life, good sound quality, and preferably a "drag-and-drop" interface so I don't have to go through the mess of iTunes. I don't give a shit about video playback nor do I need any 'apps', I just want it for music and music only. Any recommendations?
Samsung? Sony?

i was surprisingly happy with my Sandisk Clip. If i hadn't gotten an Iphone, I'd still carry it around. Good sound quality, drag and drop interaction and the refurbs are cheap as hell on buy.com. The big problem is that it doesn't support your space needs and it isn't expandable.
The next step up, the Sansa View plays video horribly but still does good audio quality AND it's expandable.

Also, anyone have suggestions for headphones? Mine are on their deathbed

Sansas are probably the single best bang for your buck on a budget. And I think the Zune 16 uses proprietary software, so if drag 'n' drop is really important to you, the Sansa is the way to go.

Buds, but not anything that goes way into the ear canal

Think I'm gonna go for the 16gb Zune HD... got quite a few recommendations for it. Got a coupon for Best Buy and a $50 gift certificate to put towards it, which is cool. How bout the Sony Walkmen?
Oh yeah, what do you guys do with your old electronics? I still have all the shit for my iPod in decent condition, can I pawn it off on ebay cheap to someone who wouldn't mind changing the battery? Or should I just chuck it?

I give all my old tech to family members.

hey homeless bro, here's an ipod, you just need to plug it into your compu- ... :-\
