Wtf is this shit 8 minute cutscene :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

You think 8 minutes is bad? Never play MGS4, man. Don't do it. It will kill you.

Are these interactive cutscenes too Raban? Like in Mass Effect where you can choose what you say etc?
Nope. You can press a button and going into first-person view mid-cutscene though. That's about it.
Oh yeah, or, when you press the button, you have acid flashbacks.
-
It's a Japanese game, what do you think?
-
Jesus Christ that sounds horrible and not like a game at all. Well I guess the plot is very good then at least?
:lol
The plot is so bad, I can't even begin to explain it. Let me just put it this way: It's worse than every post-VII Final Fantasy smashed together in some mega-shitfest.
-
they should have never made Snake so old. I don't even see him as Solid Snake in MGS4, just some old 'Snake' in an alternate universe or some shit.
-
The best game of 2008 and possibly this generation has sold 5 million copies, no surprise here tbh.
-
The first half of MGS4 was brilliant, then it took a serious nose dive.
-

Gameplay wise I agree with you. The first two acts are really fun. But the story was ass from start to finish.
I love how Kojima kept saying that this game had less cinematics and would have more in-game stuff, and proceeds to have more than any other game in the series, and on top of that, 20 minutes breaks in between acts waiting for the game to install.
What a shit game.

Are you shitting me? This sounds like a total disaster.
No joke. There are five acts, in between each one there's like 10-20 minutes of loading so that it can install on your HDD. One of the acts is like 70% cutscenes, and you bet your ass the loading times before and after are long as hell.

It's all wapanese shittiness to me.
And I don't need to troll MGS4's story, it trolls itself. I'm pretty sure Kojima doesn't really give a fuck about that series anymore, as he tried really hard to drive it straight into the ground with 4. Not that it was flying high in the first place.

5 million people with bad taste
You think five million people bought MGS4? Most people bought it twice. I guarantee it.
I wonder if they include pack-ins.
-
A distinguished mentally-challenged fellow I know bought the game the day it came out and he still doesn't own a PS3. Smh Kojima manbabies.
-
Baby jesus cryin, this is not what he died fo
-
what a shit "game". kojipro obviously had no idea what direction they wanted to take the game in so they just slapped a bunch of fanfic together and called it a day because they knew MGStards would eat that shit up no matter how bad it was. and they were obviously right!

Those are bought by Sony,Konami doesn't care.5 million sold to people would mean that Europe has bought 3 million.
MGS is loved in Europe, but not that loved :yuck

PLEASE God, let Kojima write and direct a MGS movie. I seriously think it will be the unintentional comedy event of , well, the forever.
Tommy Wiseau and Kojima should collaborate. YOU'RE TEARING ME APART LIQUID! Oh hey Otacon...
also, this "game" is biggest letdown of the gen and it would be hard for any big name sequel (if there are any left to make) to top it. They fucked this game up in so many ways and I'm not just talking about cutscenes, even though those are AIDS to anyone with a bit of taste.

its not perfect. i understand why people don't like it. it's not the best game of the generation. not the best MGS game either. but i love it. good to see it selling well.

DQ is for fat weebos.

Don't hate on Dairy Queen. Blizzards. :drool
-
MGS4 is for dumb people.
"I'm not dumb, I understand the economies of war! I learned it from Kojima-san!"
-
You're right. I saw some distinguished mentally-challenged fellow with a Naruto headband when I drove by a Dairy Queen once. Diunx, that wasn't you was it? You do like MGS4, taste isn't your strong suit...
We don't have Dairy Queen over here and I hate naruto.
-
This is sort of sad. Not that the system has been crippled from the weight of its shining star exclusives, and there have been very few sequels to PS2 franchises, but comparing just the opening month numbers of other, good, exclusives to this one, the common PS3 owner should be ashamed.
-
I was responding to Diunx's post about what he thinks are the best parts of MGS4. He was wrong on every count.
Btw, I have my pants on ;)
-
It takes a lot to offend me.
But MGS4 managed to do it.
Fuck you, Kojima.

I dunno, I stopped hyping Kojima after MGS2. The shit was tired then, it's dead, now.

Access it on a mobile phone? It's horrible, really. I think it shows like five posts per page, and none of the formatting is there. Maybe it's only on my Nokia, but yeah, it's fucking horrible.

Bought this game during launch for €60.
And I still haven't played (watched) it for more than 10 minutes. :lol
I think I should start playing this soon, since I loved MGS 1,2 and 3.

too bad 4 is a million times shittier than the first three

I'd say it's five million times shittier.

DQ is for fat weebos.
At least DQ games have gameplay for longer than the first 2 hours of the game. And don't force 11 minute installs on you. MGS4 started off great, but by the 3rd act (where you were stalking that guy) it just got stale. Too much in the way of cinematics and loading.

I thought the Snatcher homage was pretty badass, but at that point I decided the game was the worst ever, and that Act did nothing to save it.
-

I think that should give you good reason NOT to play/watch MGS4.
I admit to not being a big MGS fan (though I did have a huge hard on for the first one) but after going back and replaying 2 and 3, I gotta admit they are kind of fun....as long as you ignore the idiotic plot. But MGS4 is pure unadulterated crap with no redeeming value whatsoever. Acts 1 and 2 (the ones with actual gameplay in it) are average at best and the rest of the game is the equivalent of watching a DVD that you occasionally have to interact with. Act 4 is a nice fan service to those that liked the first MGS but who fucking cares. Nothing really happens.
90 minute cut scene. Not 90 minutes of cut scenes, but a 90 minute cut scene. I think that's all that needs to be said for MGS4.
5 million people can be wrong. Very wrong.
-
I played through MGS4 skipping all the cinematics and it took me 5 hours.
-
I played through MGS4 skipping all the cinematics and it took me 5 hours.
Co-worker of mine claims he did a speed run of the game and it took him a little over 3 hours.
It was my first time through the game, so. I was playing at a friends house and every cinematic I skipped he kind of just summarized.
-
This game is awesome :rock

Yeah, but I play MGS like a demon.

I love all things Metal Gear.
For all the people trashing the game, I wonder if they played MGS1, and spent like an hour trying to get to the elevator and kept failing and gave up and just call out sour grapes.
At least the boss fights are better than what is in Bioshock.

I used to be a rabid MGS fan. I was comfortable with MGS2 being the end of the series. Then 3 was announced and I was like :-\ but it turned out pretty fun, minus the molasses-slow gameplay. Then when MGS4 was announced I was like :maf. Then I played it and I was like :) :D :o :yuck :lol :( :maf in that order.

I loved 1,3 and 4. 2 was terrible.
-
I loved 1,3 and 4. 2 was terrible.
Personally, I think 2 has the best gameplay in the series. MGS1 has the best camera, and 3 has the best writing. 4 has the worst everything.
-
eh. i loved the production values and nuttiness of 4. I still haven't seen the ending. I couldn't make it past them all clapping like distinguished mentally-challenged fellows and having emotional breakthroughs at that odd party or whatever. i just skipped it. The story had become so lol at that point that I said fuck it. But I loved playing it and I even loved some of the cheesy ass long cutscenes. I was baked off my ass though so maybe that's why.
1 was the most fun I've had with an MGS game though. It fucking amazed me. Himuro let me borrow it back in middle school and I was blown away.
2 just did nothing for me. I was bored through most of it.
3 blew me away again. It was insane. I was playing it on a 60 inch tv and thought it was the greatest thing ever.
-
The designers that worked on the game seem pretty awesome. Whenever they would show a new clip showing off some awesome looking boss, mech or other character, I'd mourn the fact that those designs were wasted on Metal Gear Solid.
-

I always love this argument.
The "you're not a true fan" argument.
Stick a dual shock up your ass, cock goblin.

Saying MGS = Cutscenes is about as funny as PS3 has no games. It makes you look like the guy at a party telling Portal jokes, 3 years late.
-
MGS3, game of the (last) generation

There are some Sniper Wolf nudes in a MGS artbook I downloaded :fap :fap :fap.
-
MGS3, game of the (last) generation
Well, the 2nd version of that one (Subsistence or whatever it was called) at least has a chance for the title. The plain jane version is fucking unplayable with the overhead perspective imo.
-

Personally, I think 2 has the best gameplay in the series. MGS1 has the best camera, and 3 has the best writing. 4 has the worst everything.
MGS21? I always thought MGS2 was the only game in the series to have a perfect camera. It worked beautifully within the environment they created. It was definitely the most polished MGS game released.
What baffles me is why they didn't adopt an MGS2 style camera for the PSP games. It seems like a natural fit!
-

but it's never been so true about a game. The first thing to come to mind when someone mentions MGS4 is "tons of distinguished mentally-challenged cutscenes." Every time the game comes up in conversation with people it's cutscenes and how distinguished mentally-challenged the story is.
the game completely out-xenosaga'd xenosaga.
The first three had a lot of cutscenes and talking, but there was a lot of gameplay in between.

Don't get me wrong, MGS2 is still my favorite in the series, but the camera in MGS1 is extremely reminiscent of the 2D MG games, and MGS kind of plays like a 2.5D game.
I can't imagine how a fan of the series would dislike MGS2. It's probably the most polished game I've played, period, let alone within the series. And even now, the visuals are something special. Sure the story is complete shit, but I completely forgive it for having some of the best gameplay and most genius sword mechanics ever.
-
It just never clicked with me. Maybe I'll try it again one day. But everytime I tried MGS2, I was bored to death.
-

Heh, that's why I don't like the camera in MGS1. It is too reminiscent of the 2D games. MGS2 brought the right amount of 3D into the picture without going for a fully controllable camera. I thought it was a great mix.
-
MGS3 Subsistence is one of my favorite games of all time. I'm pretty indifferent to both MGS1 and MGS2, honestly. As for MGS4, the first couple of chapters were awesome, but then it turned into a big pile of stinky poo.

Subsistence is great but like all late-life PS2 games it runs terribly. If you could go in and out of menus faster, or maybe just have a more streamlined way to equip camo, it'd be great. As it stands, the menu navigation is a horrible chore.
-

Yeah, MGS4 really takes a dive. The first two chapters were straight awesome and I got some enjoyment out of the fourth chapter, but the back half of the game is filled with too many cutscenes. It's a damn shame as the base game was really good. Whenever I go back to it I never play beyond the second chapter.
MGS2 was definitely my favorite followed by 3 (which was great, but as noted, was too bogged down with menus and framerate issues). MGS2 is such a slick experience from beginning to end and felt completely unique. It felt uncompromised. Kojima and crew delivered the game they wanted to make while making no concessions. That definitely turned some people away, but I loved it.
-
MGS1 is awesome. The music in that game is badass and not overdone
MGS2 is fun but kinda mediocre but the ending makes up everything for that game, seriously it blew my mind.
MGS3 sucks and nobody cares about the shitty story about some cool woman who dies for nothing I DONT CARE ABOUT HER
MGS4 is badass and I loved watching every cutscene because those were the best parts of the game but the story kinda sucked except for the ending.

Subsistence is easily one of last gens top 5. Best MGS game ever.

Agreed. 2 (substance) is one of my favorite games ever.

Same. I loved MGS, MGS3S, and the GBC MGS.. I think I am going to enjoy Peacewalker as well. That's about it for me.

Bullsheet.
I remember I got my ps2 for Christmas in 2001 so we decided to bring it over to Ruben's place because he only had an Xbox. I brought over MGS2 and you tranq'd every damn guy in the room with 999 dudes watching the speech in the tanker chapter! You liked it then!
I've liked every Metal Gear I've played except 4, but in overall fun, 2 is probably the highlight for me.
