Finally, for real, the StarCraft II beta is about to begin. Activision Blizzard president Mike Morhaime announced today during a company earnings call that the close beta of the highly-anticipated real-time strategy game will launch this month.
The beta will be offered in North America, Europe, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand and, of course, the place where StarCraft II is just about a national pastime, South Korea. Morhaime said the beta would be accessible by thousands of players and used to gather feedback and generate excitement.
The game itself is expected to launch in mid-2010.
StarCraft II has been in development for several years. The original StarCraft was launched in 1998.
How do you get in?
If you want in the Starcraft II beta, you MUST have a Battle.net account and have accepted the Beta Opt-In Agreement! Do this now!

Thanks!
You must have at least one full version of a Blizzard Entertainment game attached to this Battle.net account in order to set up your beta profile.
yeah, I really can't see Koreans not taking to it.
Holy shit :lolyeah, I really can't see Koreans not taking to it.
If you lived here for like 3 weeks you'd get it. You can't even imagine the vast amount of proprietary, Korean developed games that you've never, ever heard of that are 100 times as popular as Modern Warfare 2. Most of them you NEED a Korean ID (Like a Social Security #) to sign up. So foreigners can't even play!
It's crazy. These are an idiosyncratic people. It will take a long-ish time for Starcraft 2 to catch on. It took a long time for Starcraft 1 to catch on. Maybe a few years down the road when the game is more established you'll see it take off here, but. They like what they like and they're not in a hurry to change.
uhh, SC2 is gonna be an absolute monster in korea...you're nuts.
the launch date is probably gonna be a national day. it's gonna sell millions
You can easily bypass the Korean ID requirement, so that's not a big deal. Ive done it many times to play :uguu MMOs.

You don't think the fact that SC is popular would speed up the adoption of SC2?yeah, I really can't see Koreans not taking to it.

I'm supposed to have one blizzard game to sign up for the beta :'(
I have Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3, would those count?
I remember hearing that some professional SC players in Korea and the US complained about the feel of the game with respect to professional play (macros for instance), but that was awhile ago; I'd imagine Blizzard has tuned things a lot since then.
Frag, any fixes for SC on Win 7? The colors are totally wonky.

I open up the panel where you change the W7 desktop resolution and then start SC. It eventually loads up without the tealplosion.
The email process has started and with the number of emails that are going out, it will take a while for all of them to be sent. Please be patient.
Guess they're proud of the work they've done with the 3 PLAYABLE YEARS they've had to work on the game.
I didn't get an invite, even though I own three of the four Blizzard battlechests and all are registered at their site :maf
Ok the music sucks. It's like Star Wars.Did you hear the one about the Polish opinion?
One Battle.net account per copy of SC2.So the first base game, with the Terran campaign, would come with an account but now the question is if you would also get one with the protoss and zerg expansions. I'd guess that you would if you're able to play the expansions by themselves.
They're all tied to your Blizzard account, and the multiplayer portion is the same across all three games. So I guess that yes, you could setup a second account using the zerg or protoss expansion, but you'd also have to create a second Blizzard account then abandon all your stats and achievements from the first account, and you'd have to switch between accounts to play the different single player content. One Battle.net account per copy of SC2.So the first base game, with the Terran campaign, would come with an account but now the question is if you would also get one with the protoss and zerg expansions. I need to brainstorm possible GIFs. I'm already running out of good material and I might have to wait a while. :(the pairs figure-skating finals are tomorrow.
I believe one of the features highlighted when they released some details of the new Battle.net way back when was that players will be limited to one SC2 account per Battle.net account. I actually think I remember crying about that on here
And then I saw that it was just another shitty beta invite for shitty Heroes of Newerth and killed myself
CajoleJuice/PhoenixDark: always ugly, never boring :bow
My record with Cajole on my team is like 5-4, but when I'm teamed with out people I fail miserably.
You are a machine.
Also, I meant to ask -- when I look at your profile, all that shows up is "Practice League." What's up with that?
you'll get the code in your email yo
you'll get the code in your email yo
actually they are directly flagged on bnet accounts, not sending out keys
i'm not really feeling it so far. even though my first game was a 2vs1 match which i won, it wasn't all that exciting for me. i rather play company of heroes :(
I'd imagine some of my complaints will be solved in the retail version. Mainly with the maps, which are kinda meh. Hopefully they add a couple more in a patch or something. Not too worried about this when it goes live. A lot of the best maps for SC were user-made, and their map tools look amazing this time around
Woo one of my friends got a beta invite and it's the one that doesn't even play Starcraft. Anyone know if Blizzard does IP checks or anything like that for account sharing?
Frag, you play Terran, right? Any thoughts on this match-up? I suppose I should take a look at the TL forums as well
Additional information about StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty, including the release date, will be announced in the coming weeks.Yesssssssss
$60 for one campaign and multiplayer? What the fuck?(http://cache.kotaku.com/assets/resources/2008/03/sidewaysbobbyexcited.jpg)

Campaign is as long as the original SC, and really anyone with a brain knows they'll get $60 out of this if they are into multiplayer.
Put a preorder in today, fucking gamestop is out of beta keys :pissI have an extra if you want it
I need to start going air more. Usually I use a mixture of ground forces depending on the situation, and by the end of most games I haven't built a spire. The only time I've lost to Zerg lately is when they pull a nice muta transition that I don't scout fast enough. Most people seem to have awful control with their infestors though, so maybe that's why

I can pretty much dominate toss as long as the game doesn't go too long, but I've always struggled against terran. I love seeing Thors though, they're so easy to control with infestors (btw I hate having to invest in natural parasite now...boooo patch qq). Banelings take out their light units easily, but when terran go straight mech I get fucked.Yeah I'll pop out a thor for AA if I see mutas, but as soon as I see an infestation pit I cut production. I've lost games to neural parasited thors lol
4-1 in placement matches with OptimoPeach, got into the gold leagueAnd that loss was my fault because I failed to block my ramp. In 2v2. Against double Zerg :lol
I just watched that entire video.Talk to me when you've seen about 50 of those :lol
Massive nerd, confirmed. :'(
That guy is a nerd but damn if he doesn't tell stories in an interesting way. Does he have a podcast?Don't think so. He just does this daily show Monday-Thursday (http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=104154), and it's all Starcraft stuff
What ways especially? Two really big things that have been nagging at me lately:
OptimoPeach, you are fucking insane.:-[ I told you I play too much
Me and Cajole should record our games. If people want to see skill, there's Husky or HDStarcraft. If you want constant entertainment and blunders no one has thought of before, watch our shit :lol
I need a new rig, but I'll just get a laptop for work and use that. Yeah, I'll play the everloving fuck out of it.
Idra's rage quits/outbursts :rofl

Getting an early exp can really fuck you up against aggressive opponents. Although even if he didn't get one, I doubt Idra would have won. Those tanks really changed the game environment
rematch :rofl

How did this game cost $100 M to make? :lol
Forgive my utter ignorance but is this going to be available for digital DL anywhere? Not sure if it's worth paying $80 for an import version.
Lets put together some EB games when it comes out :rockSure, if Frag ever plays again :'(
everyone against Optimo and Frag
I have a feeling that their servers are gonna get hammered. I've installed WoW enough times with their downloader to know that I want a physical copy. I'm just gonna pick mine up at the Gamestop down the street on my way home.
fml I didn't know that. Oh well
What do you guys think about Husky? I was surprised to see many GAFers don't like his commentary. I find him pretty fun and interesting. He's not a good player, but that doesn't mean he can't be a good commentator. Most of his videos contain strategy pointers/tipsH TO THE USKY HUSKY bugs the hell out of me. HD reminds me of Gus Johnson, but he's at least bearable I guess. Day[9] is definitely the better player, and I think he does an incredible job of highlighting all the nuances that all the other casters tend to miss, partially because he's able to glean so much more from playing all three races instead of just one. He's also toned down the goofy nerd shit somewhat when he casts tournaments. I always pick him if I have an option. He's actually doing a tournament right now: http://www.ustream.tv/day9tv TLO vs Tester is coming up and they're a couple of the best players to emerge from the beta, so check it out if you're not doing anything else.
I like HDStarcraft more though. Crota...eh, he's been casting for ages and still stutters/messes up like crazy
How long did the download take?
And what is FE? :(Fast expand
It's amazing how rarely people keep an eye on that backdoor in Blistering Sands. Maybe as a zerg player I'm spoiled since I can just hover an overlord thereYeah it's not as big of a deal for Zerg to defend because you go like 10000 mph on creep. I actually filter Blistering Sands out on ladder :shh It has the longest rush distance out of any map, and I end up with some really nightmarish games when I do anything mech heavy due to the immobility
Did this game seriously cost $100 million to make? :lolIt's more funny that a lot of the delays were due to them "perfecting" Battle.net 2.0 after you've had some firsthand experience with it
