...will be at E3 :............liars :'(
Well, like a lot of publishers, we anticipated continued growth. We were gearing up. You know, we hit a billion dollars in our fiscal 2007 and we were planning to go to a billion-five and then two billion -- we were building out accordingly. The market flattened out. We had to adjust costs and adjust costs quickly. So the way we're looking at that now is that our fiscal 2010 is all about turnaround. We went from a $165 million dollar operating loss the prior year to making money this year -- I mean, that's amazing in a year. I don't like the cost-cutting. I've been building for 20 years at THQ, but you know, you've gotta deal with reality. And what we're thinking about for this coming year, calendar 2010 or fiscal 2011, is just continued rebuilding. We cut our costs, so now let's take that next step. Build the brands a little bit more. Add a couple more brands to the portfolio. But we look at our fiscal 2012 or next calendar year -- I'm sure you're going to be at E3; I think we're going to blow people away at E3. You'll be seeing Saints Row 3. You'll be seeing the next Red Faction. You'll be seeing more of Homefront. We've been talking about it, but we'll actually show some of our Warhammer 40k MMO, and I think people are going to go, "Oh my God. They've got their stuff together."
I think it's going to blow people's socks off. Come to E3. People will go, "This is not your father's THQ" when they come out of E3.
Some interesting stuff about Metro 2033 development
Well, you've seen Darksiders. We're leading the charge with that. I think we've got a real sleeper coming with Metro 2033. It's a really interesting game. Not everyone will love it and we know that. And one of the great things about a game like that is that it's being developed in the Ukraine so our development costs are lower and we don't need a huge hit to do well. I think that's the model for the future. With games like that and our Montreal studio, the idea is to still deliver quality to the gaming audience, but not having to spend $30 million dollars to get there. So we think Metro 2033 will find an audience. We've got a Dawn of War expansion pack coming. As you probably already know, that's been a huge franchise for us over the years. Then we get into UFC.
THQ Brian Farrel interview,good stuff

I really think that Metro 2033 could be a surprise hit for them if they handle the marketing/PR right the next couple of weeks. It looks fantastic and is exactly the sort of fresh-but-familiar game that can really take off.
-
Well, you've seen Darksiders. We're leading the charge with that.
Isn't Darksiders tanking though?
-
It's shipped >1 million and sold like ~300k in January's NPD. Not to bad for a brand new IP from an unknown developer.
-
Not to mention zero marketing support, no demo, and a downright terrible release window.
-
Fuck YESSSSSSS. Guaranteed to be better than GTA Whatever.
-
IGN still thinks that GTA4 is oscar worthy, but he gave them the right answer :bow2
IGN: You've got a lot to live up to with GTA 4 coming before it. You don't think Saints Row 3 will be redundant?
Brian Farrell: It's all about fun, right? I enjoyed the GTA experience. It was very cinematic. Terrific pacing. But in terms of just sitting around with your buddy and having fun -- taking the super hose and spraying down the streets -- it's just irreverent fun. It's a totally different position. It's like saying, "Gee, I went to Avatar so I'm not going to go to the next sci-fi movie." Why can't you enjoy both?
IGN :yuck

Scenester and I co-op'd SR2 and cleared most of the Ronin missions last weekend. I'd been playing Gay Tony leading up until this, so I can say without odd nostalgia: the GTA4 engine looks better, but SR2 does everything else better.

Darksiders is like $40 on Amazon. Is it worth it?

Yeah,GTA 4 engine is very advanced, jut look at Red Dead Redemption, while Saints Row looks pretty outdated and its sub-hd on both consoles(ok,GTA 4 is sub-hd on PS3,but still...).Not surprising though,GTA4 budget is rumored to be around $100 million.
But i am confident that Saints Row 3 engine will be significantly better than SR2.
I had a lot of fun playing GTA4,i cant deny that, but it always felt like "directed" fun, while in SR2 i had loads of fun using my kung-fu skills, beating random people, customizing myself, spraying shit on people, etc :lol
And i liked SR2 story better...

Saints Row 3 needs a jetpack

THQ is slowly building up which is nice because its always nice to see more publishers stepping it up. I think for a long time they were viewed as primary the guys who do the WWE games, and those handheld games, and I guess the guys who own Relic on the PC side.
Saints Row is has become a popular franchise for them and while I don't like it as much as most its a good game. Red Faction while it didn't sell a ton was probably a successful reboot of a franchise and the building destroying stuff was cool. I didn't play Darksiders but it seems to have been decently well received. The new UFC franchise is very popular. Metro 2033 will probably tank but its a euro dev so the costs are lower and it at least looks kind of interesting and quirky. And personally I'm very excited for Homefront from the Kaos Studios guys. Fuels of War is the best bad game I always recommend to people. Shitty looking, kinda laggy, some outdated controls, but an fps with a lot of great ideas in it on the MP side where I hope they can combine their design strengths with some new found technical strengths (hopefully) in the next game.

IGN are such distinguished mentally-challenged fellows. SR2 owns GTA4 so damn bad.We gotta play SR2 again real soon Chrono and knock down some of those co-op cheevs :D

"PR and the marketing for that is going to start rolling out this year." says core games VP Danny Bilson. "The next Saints Row is mind-blowing. New tech; mind-blowing. I can't talk about that too much but it's mind-blowing."

Hmm,new mind-blowing tech

4 player co-op with Red Faction destruction.

The cars will steer "realistically," you'll have to go on dates, and all the cool rewards will be removed.

I hope they have a bigger map. Just Cause 2 is spoiling me with ridiculous numbers of areas to explore, and most actually have interesting things in them.

The 3DS grabbed everyone's attention at this year's E3, but can the new handheld attract more core gamers? That seems to be the plan from Nintendo, according to THQ. In fact, Core Games VP Danny Bilson told us that Nintendo pushed hard to get Saints Row on 3DS to show that they can promote mature content on the new system.
As part of a soon-to-be-published in-depth interview, Bilson commented to IndustryGamers, "Nintendo really wants to launch with a very balanced portfolio. They really don’t want it to feel like a kiddie platform. They were very clear: they really wanted Saints Row on it."
Bilson continued by talking about how the 3DS version is essentially a no-risk initiative for THQ and is ultimately designed to help sell the upcoming Saints Row 3. He elaborated, "Now, we know how those go sometimes: sure, the first party wants it, but is it really going to work? The interesting thing about the game is we were already making it. We were already making it as our Xbox Live game and in 3D also. It’s designed for 3D already. So the 3DS version is an incremental cost. It’s not a big startup cost. Anything in a transmedia play has a column called marketing in it. It’s also a marketing tool. So how does that game model for us? I believe it will do great, especially if Nintendo is going to go mature and really do a big mature campaign on it. It’s a killer game. It’s got all the weird humor of Saints Row, and also its existence is part of the marketing plan to sell Saints Row 3. Also, all these games have hooks where, if you play it, it unlocks things in Saints Row 3. If you play Saints Row 3, it will unlock things in the 3DS game or the Xbox Live game. I don’t know if I was clear about that, but all of our extension properties all connect and unlock things in each other.

360 connected to 3DS...hmm

-
Saints Row on 3DS better be epic, and not some shitty collection of minigames where you throw poop on old people and then they throw up and their dentures fly out of the screen
-
Oh it's on XBLA too? No need to buy a 3DS now.

We should be game company executives, we're just FULL of good ideas

I wonder if they'll just make it like one of the old top down GTA games. Bring it all together.
Gonna be great.

I'll probably be able to pirate the 3DS version.

Saints Row on a portable? Sign me up.

Is this something?

Yeah, that caught my eye as well. Is it a direct download title? I suspect not, but that's not just saying "online focused" - that's some other weird thing.
-
Interesting; I wonder if they'll tie the 'cheevs to the main game like Crackdown 2 has.
-
Saints Row 3 is coming fall 2011-according to THQ

I'm going to borrow additional penii so I can have enough boners for this news. FALL 2011!
-
more like Saints Row 3 coming in my pants
-
Awesome.
BRB changing diapers.
-
I really wonder if they'll put it in Stilwater again. SR2 proved that you can make the "same" environment compelling just by changing up a few assets as long as the gameplay has been sufficiently evolved.
-
On the other hand, Crackdown 2 proved that if you try to make the same environment compelling and fail it can bring the whole thing down. I'd rather they just go for a whole new city with this one, personally.
-
people sitll care about this lame game?
-
^ fuck you
-
I'd be happy with Stillwater again, provided they make some interesting areas to explore. There wasn't too much new added last time, and after Just Cause 2 I need more stuff to find.
