I remember a few folks giving it positive mentions in the past but it looks like they're not coming out of hiding at the moment.

Dont let him fool you. Its not an adventure game.

Eh, its close enough.  You swim around an ocean, you catalouge fish, search for treasure.  Revisit old areas under different conditions to find new species.  Its kinda like pokemon without all the cockfighting.

edit: well, there's six oceans now.  they also removed the radius limits for the individual oceans this time around.

I liked when I went down into the abyss the first time and a giant whale was coming right at me.  It was the first time in a long time I ever got scared in a game.

Get "Seallife Safari" on XBLA. Its just like Pokemon Snap.

yeah I much as I love to piss on the Wii, Endless Ocean is a great game. It actually does the whole relaxing non-game thing right, lots of crap to collect and theres some big ass scary fishes  :o I should fire it up again, I never got too far in it. The dialogue is all zany funny engrish stuff, and love the soundtrack too, Hayley Westenra owns.

I got about 12 hours of enjoyment out of it before it was "finished".  I never explored the whole ocean or found all the fish or anything though.

Probably the only game where I actually get scared, especially when the water is really deep or some goddamn scary creature shows up right behind me. Diving on the edge of the Abyss is scary shit. :lol

That's weird, cus in EO it was called Benedictus and had altered lyrics.

Unless thats what benedictus translates to.

Apparently the Karl Jenkins [Adiemus IV] version is the original, while the version by Hayley Westrena [Pure] came out two years later and was the version in Endless Ocean.

Used copies of Endless Ocean are more expensive than new copies of Endless Ocean 2.  Impressions from europeans claim there is a lot more to do in many more areas present in the sequel.  Its only 30 dollars.

I don't think Arika had anything to do with Tweeny Witches.

This time pirahnas and sharks and other sealife can attack you.  But you just lose oxygen in those cases.

I played it for like an hour before I got bored and sold it.  Afrika lasted about five hours before I got bored, but that had the appeal of being a photographer; not a fair comparison.

I do wish they would make a new pokemon snap game, hopefully the camera missions are more abundant this time around.
Title: Re: We have a closeted Endless Ocean fanbase, right?
Post by: cool breeze on February 22, 2010, 03:42:23 PM
yeah, Pokemon Snap was awesome.  Photography in games for points is usually pretty awesome.  Dead Rising is another example.

Afrika was kinda like a stealth photography game.  You had to lie down in a bush and just wait for things to enter the shot.  One point you had to wait like five to ten minutes for these elephants to get closer.  Then there was managing different camera that had different settings, and you could even go into manual mode and adjust all the camera settings and things like that.  One cool thing was that you could tilt the controller to take portrait shots.

Haha. Namco made that one I remember. It came out about the same time as the home port of Time Crisis. I remember you went around on a turbine powered yellow dildo shooting harpoons and throwing nets on sea life.

I just picked up my copy and played for about an hour.  The good stuff is that it looks like they took everything about the first game and expanded upon significantly.  On the other hand, I'm stuck in a looooong tutorial that goes on for 3-4 missions.  Oxygen doesn't last for more than 10 minutes, so until I can upgrade the tank I'm stuck doing linear missions.  There's some lightgun stuff in here for healing fishes and calming predators. Story is crap too, I just wanna find fishes!

edit: The music sucks too.  Biggest sour point for me thus far.  :'(

Yeah, the music is so soooo gaaaaaay.  :lol
I stopped playing after rescuing the baby whale. Don't think I can play this much longer. The graphics are pretty good for a Wii game, though.

How are the graphics compared to the first game?  I thought the first game was quite good, it was just the aliasing that stood out quite a bit.

I think it looks good for a wii game. It's actually widescreen. Considering you're mostly in barren or narrow areas, it shouldnt be difficult to churn out decent models.

It sounds pretty wack how the didnt license more Hayley Westenra tracks for the sequel. Or they could have mixed it up with some Enya, Enigma etc.

I forgot the first game was true widescreen.  Those black bars give me the shits so when there's a true widescreen Wii game I'm always pretty impressed.

Talk about setting the bar low.

I finished the main game.  Extremely irritating.  The puzzles are simplistic get from a-b to pap and the story is awful. Just awful people.  I'm glad its over with so I can get to what makes this game fun, dicking around for my own pleasure.  I will say that the new multisensor makes treasure hunting kinda awesome.  Its kind of a hot or cold minigame done in first person.

edit: ok something cool happened. The skipper basically told off the whole team and how are adventure was a gigantic unprofitable mess.  He has instructed us to all work like dogs doing photo/guide requests. YEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS.
