So to answer your question we do not have dedicated servers as in a separate computer starting a server whilst not playing.
All our servers are started by other players at the moment and servers are selected through a traditional server selection list. Ping, combined user experience and server location etc are all calculated into a star system that shows how suitable a server is for you. The only thing we cannot protect against at the moment are ppl hosting a server leaving and all users thus being disconnected.
However we at Fatshark are continually making sure that there are always servers up and running in case you do not want to start your own. For the future we want to have a dedicated server solution. But as this entails a lot of work as to give you the ability to configure your server and community features like password protected servers etc this will take time. We wanted to focus on fun game play before server management.
We will however listen to our community and answer to all your needs.
