So let me ask you fine folks, when you meet someone like you're about to see, how many times do you lose faith in humanity.
This girl
> Hates "sellouts" like James Cameron and believes that its a crime that indie directors don't make any money. She was currently downloading "A Single Man"
> Thinks that EVERYONE downloads their music, no one uses Itunes to buy music at all because none of her friends do. Her friends = EVERYONE IN THE WORLD
Some excripts from my MSN log
I want the black keys to become super popular by doing what they love, not doing something they don't love just to make it big.
so what!?!?
that's a strange attitude... people that lip synch, pay people to write their songs for them, should not be, whatsoever known for music.
they should not be recieivng money because they are an image, that is all.
and the people that do love and breathe music and make wondeful music... they should
Again, she doesn't believe in buying music cause no one else does.
and if good artists cared oh so much about making money, they'wouldn't be making records or caring about record sales so much, because it is very obvious that the whole world downloads
they are continuing to make music, because they love to.
it is their passion.
Then she tries to justify her downloading of A Single Man
but if these directors live and breathe film, they'll continue to do it anyways/
because it's not for money, it's for their love of film
the reason they don;t make as much money as Cameron is because THEY AREN'T TRYING.
they choose not to make blockbusters for their love of what is truly an artform not commercialist capitalism
I bet if we were to ask all those cool, indie directors if they would have made Titanic given the chance, 90% would say no
When I tell her most people buy their music through Itunes instead of downloading through torrents.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Where the fuck are you readin your shit? That has got to be the furthest thing from the truth I've ever heard
look at it this week, 90% of my friends use torrents
And the grand finale
we don't live in a perfect era of people "being legal" and people "conserving the rights of artists" gas is over a freakin dollar a litre, flights are nowhere under 700 a tciket, food is ridiculously priced, people want free.
people are greedy, they will take and they WILL ENJOY not paying.
How the hell CAN YOU ARGUE THAT!?!
I am done with this conversation now too, because I have aheadache, I should be working, and really you're opretty condescending
-
Is this the chick you wanna bown?
-
well you were being opretty condescending
-
Sounds like Bloodwake's ex.
-
Sounds like standard shit from today's generation, except the delusions. Wait...
-
She said most people listen to Lady Gaga and I said yeah and those people don't know what torrents are
BUT IF THEY DID THEY WOULD ALL STEAL HER MUSIC!!!!
ANARCHYY!!!!!
My gay friend knows about torrents and he ended up buying The Fame Monster like three times.
-
I like her, is she hot?
-
I don't really see the problem with her pirating shit, but trying to justify it as right is kind of ridiculous.
-
The fact that she smokes is a plus to me since I can smoke her cigarettes and save mine.
-
Yeah those kind of people drive me fucking crazy.
-
Artists that I absolutely love, I still don't buy their CDs. I support them by seeing them live, and telling other people about them. I mean, sure, I've bought a couple CDs of stuff that I have just absolutely LOVED. But it's a rare occasion.
And yeah, I know piracy is wrong. Doesn't stop me.
-
Is this the chick you wanna bown?
I was trying to figure out what 'bown' meant.
-
I go see my favorite artists live so they actually get some of the money. I bootleg like crazy. Especially in the current market where CD's are dead and don't indicate popularity of music at all these days.
-
I download cd's as a test to see if I want to buy the whole thing. The Airborne Toxin Event (I think?) put out an incredible single. I went and downloaded their cd and I was so hyped and thinking about going to Best Buy and buying it but after I listened to like 4 songs in the shower I thought "holy shit, I'm so glad I saved my money." Their entire cd was terrible.
Last cd I bought? Silversun Pickups. Heard the first single. Loved it. Heard the second single. Loved it. Bought the cd. I've realized that bands that only put out one single from a cd are generally the shitty bands with one decent song.
Movies I only download if it's not in theaters or able to rent. I sneak into some movies, and I don't give a shit. I want to be entertained but some movies are not worth paying for. I've been burned way too many times. I paid for The Road. I paid for Shutter Island. FUcking shit, I paid for The Book of Eli. I snuck into Ninja Assassin. I snuck into Valentine's Day. And I'm so fucking glad I did and I don't regret it one bit. I've snuck into a few movies that I ended up loving. Guess what? I bought the dvd/blu ray. In the end I tend to support things that I like but I'm not self righteous enough to think that these people are doing what they do just to entertain me. They need to make a living. If I truly appreciate them I'll try to support them one way or another. But my other side is that I do feel entitled to see shitty movies. No justifications. I just can and so I do. And I don't feel bad about it one bit.

Is this the chick you wanna bown?
I was trying to figure out what 'bown' meant.
Bone.
As in fuck.
Except bown (own) rather than bone.
-
I wish you did want to bang her mojo. :(
Then you could tell us how you made her admit that she's a dirty, filthy pirate (and made her admit it multiple times, and the neighbours heard it too).
-
I'm pretty sure Lady Gaga is actually a genius. I say this because she started out as a pretty damn good singer/songwriter/pianist, but she intentionally pursued her current style and is now a millionaire many times over.
-
Bown the stupid out of her, mojo.
-
people who convince themselves that piracy is justified are delusional, even though i pirate movies (almost have a terabyte of vidya) music, books, tv shows (doesnt really count), and sirius xm radio shows i know its really wrong, the last time i felt bad about it was when i dled the hurt locker and showed it to my family
-
Dammit drew, now your family is going to hell. I hope you're happy.
-
bubububuubu it wasnt in the local theaters
-
This chick sounds like a hipster. You aren't talking to BrandNew's sister are you?
-
I pirate music/movies but I buy lots of music too so I consider myself a net positive force.
Yeah, I'm definitely in the same boat. There's been a study that says people who pirate a lot of music also buy a lot:

-
The industry was/is more worried over the loss of control over what the general audience is exposed to rather than how many CDs someone still buys.
-
She lives in a box, a she has created for herself and thinks she lives outside the box. (mainstream world)
None the less, it's a box full of assumptions, indie movies, & downloaded copies of The Black Keys.
