So I just got the call from the census folks, and I got the job :rock
$16/hr+50cent for every mile I drive :rock
6 weeks :rock

My brother is pissed. He scored a bit higher than me on the test, and got called a week ago with the news he got the job, but when they found out he doesn't have a drivers license they told him they weren't interested :'(

I wish I had told Cheebs to apply, we could have worked together :'(

Good thing you are doing it in Michigan. We've already lost one census worker in Clay County, and half of the people who didn't vote for Obama in KY was probably for racist reasons.

Lawl. They are going to bother the shit out of her. My mom did the Census in 2000 and she had to go to peoples' houses multiple times in order to get them to do it.

Only three folks in the class are 24 or younger, with the rest being married folks between 40-65. Kinda disappointing that I won't be working with any babes, but our supervisor is pretty hot. Too bad she has a kid and smokes :(

In these two days I've learned...well, government is very inefficient, and we get paid for it. In March, the census had people go around and canvas addresses for the various blocks that would be targeted by the census in April. April came and about 60% of people sent theirs back in the mail. We're supposed to be targeting the 40%, but apparently the census is not going to use any the address data received in March initially. Therefore we'll be going door to door for everyone instead of going directly to the 40% of non-responders for the first few weeks as we target college students. Then we get to use the address data. This has to all be processed by like June or July, so you'd think they would pull out the data much earlier lol

Today is another great example. Training is supposed to last 8 hours, then we fill out our time sheets and call it a day. Yesterday someone from the census office stopped by to pick up the paperwork we signed earlier that day. He spent about 30 minutes scrubbing the paperwork for mistakes before leaving. Well today I was informed that I forgot to sign a part of my paperwork, as did two other people. The office called and said they were sending another scrubber to bring the paperwork back so we could sign it, and that he'd arrive before the end of class. Class ended at 4:20pm and everyone left except the supervisor, me, and the two other people with paperwork issues. An hour later and the dude still wasn't there. Finally our supervisor called and said if he didn't get here soon, she'd have to give us overtime due to the wait. The office person basically said "fine, whatever they'll sign the stuff tomorrow" and let us go. So I got paid overtime just for waiting for the dude to come and do the job he should have done yesterday :lol

Sucks because I really was looking forward to working over the weekend; I can't be paid for this saturday and sunday because the hours would move me into overtime (which we can't get), but I still was gonna go out and at least canvass addresses and do a couple interviews for practice.

My first interview was horrible. I was struggling with all my papers so the guy invited me into his garage. Seemed like a nice gesture, but after that he got pretty hostile as I asked my various questions. He wouldn't give me the name of the female who lived with him, and it took forever just to get his own name.

me: and are you of hispanic origin?
him: *smh face* what do you think?
me: it's on my sheet so I have to ask it sir. Can I put you down as African American?
him: yea

He told me the other person who lived in the house was of hispanic origin, then when I asked about race he said Vietnamese smh. To make matters worse, some chick came to the side door quickly putting her shoes on, and he asked her if she had sent in her form. When I asked her what her name was he was like "she don't live here. See this is what I'm talking about, prying into my business." So yea...unless the listed chick was a friend, I'm guessing he was cheating on her with the other chick lol

Second interview went really smooth. The guy had a bunch of small kittens slowly walking out the door, so he kept putting them back into the house as I asked questions.

Last house I went to had a doorbell that rang the theme of Star Trek, so I expected someone like Cheebs to answer but instead it was a big black dude :lol

Star Trek to me was all about about swashbuckling action adventure and hot ladies. Nothing since the last Shatner movie did that for me till the Abrams film.

Star Trek to me was all about about swashbuckling action adventure and hot ladies. Nothing since the last Shatner movie did that for me till the Abrams film.
