I must be on some good Alabama Koosh or Comedy Central is airing old episodes of South Park in HD. The first episode was A.W.E.S.O.M-O from 2004! I know Trey and Matt talked about redoing the show, but nothing was ever announced that they would air it. THIS IS AWESOME!
Bring on more South Park in HD!

Does this mean they are just upscaling the resolution or re-doing episodes with shitty overfilled and overdetailed graphics?
-
Holy fuck, I'm watching the Awesom-O episode online right now :o
Far as I can tell, it's SD.
-
I went on Netflix and compared AWESOM-O with the one on Comedy Central and in the scene where butters gets the suppository you can see the toilet in the HD version where as in the Netflix/SouthparkStudios.com you can't. I had to take a few double takes but it seems they are re-doing the episodes.
-
Yeah I'm using SouthParkStudios.com. You'd figure they'd put the new versions up there :-\

They're re-outputting the Flash for 16:9.
Sony re-did all 9 seasons of Sienfeld for HD a year or so ago and they're airing now.

considering the show's been CGI since about the third episode, I guess they can do it without too much trouble.

Yea it's real easy. They just open the original Flash files and and just re-output it for 16:9 and higher res.
Babylon 5 was the first show to do that. They shot it in 16:9 so when they did the DVDs they used the original aspect ratio. Unfortunately ALL of the effects files were lost so they had to use the 480p 4:3 effects footage stretched to 16:9 :(

I'm hoping that with these new HD episodes that they get to work on releasing previous season on bluray. If its one program I can watch over and over its South Park.
-
SWEET.

I don't get the point.

Vintage South Park is more re-watchable than almost anything else out there, including vintage Simpsons. :shh
-
Well this sure will be the case of where "The Simpsons did it!" won't ever be able to top Butters master plan of South Park in HD. After some reading on other forums last night was just the first of over 30 episodes that have been redone in HD.

All South Park is greatly re-watchable. Although I don't like the latest trend of making almost every episode extremely fixated on current events. Yes this was always what South Park did but not in this fashion. Now we have entire episodes revolving around 1 issue whereas in the past episodes were fairly all over the place with it's randomness and multiple story lines.
Over-emphasis on jokes is another issue of mine with the previous season. They desperately make sure that everyone who watches the show gets and digests each joke that's made. I think we don't need that. Despite my complaints about the last seasons I fucking love South Park overall. I hope Trey and Matt listens to some of the critiques the show gets lately.

The last few seasons of South Park have taken a dip in quality, but it's still one of the better programs on television. And they had a run from about season six to twelve or so where literally almost every episode is tremendous. Rivals the Simpsons at it's best and eclipses most other television. :bow
I will still always love the show unconditionally for episodes like Best Friends Forever, Cartoon Wars and With Apologies to Jesse Jackson. No other show has ever reached the potent, hilarious cocktail of social satire those episodes are able to reach so effortlessly.
-
Wasn't South Park supposed to end a couple of seasons ago? Not that I'm complaining of course.
