Title: Acapalypto (sp?): wtf did I pay for?

We went to see Acopalypto. What a piece of shit. It should be a rule that Mel Gibson is not allowed to make any movies that are not Braveheart.

Like, I don't know any of the characters in that movie. I know there's..."Man Eats Balls" or whatever, and the main character Jaguar Paw, but everyone else fell on dead ears (or subtitles..whatever). Basically, half the movie was one long chase scene in the forest. The movie had potential, but it never really made you care about the characters, and in the end, there was little point.

I mean, if the movie had a grander scale, like say, Braveheart, Last of the Mohicans, or Gladiator it would have been excellent. In the end, Acopalypto (sp?) will be remembered for it's sheer number of Hispanic cast members in a Hollywood film (the most ever?) and an hour long chase in a forest.

Waste of 14 dollars (fuck California movie prices). Man Who Eats Testicles was by far the best character in that movie.

William Wallace would not be happy with this movie and would give it 4 kicks in the balls out of 5 kicks in the balls.

I thought the movie was pretty good. I'll agree that it could have been more "epic," but the whole chase scene alone was worth the price of admission.

I did only pay $6.50 though.

Himuro, it's official.  Your opinion sucks.  The movie is fuck awesome total.  Even with the names spelled out on screen for you, you couldn't get their names.  I'm going to eat your face.

The movie was okay, but hardly worth the hype it received. The names were spelled out once the entire the movie and expect you to remember them. With the exception of Jaguar Paw and Turtles Run I can't remember crap.

I wanted them to skin that fat rich kid at the capital.

The movie theatre up the road from me (literally a 3 minute walk) has $5 dollar movies all day on Tuesday. Is it worth the $5?

The movie isn't THAT good though Mupepe. If the entire movie was just like that chase sequence, then I'd agree, but the movie was pretty damn slow for the first part and the aspect of the movie that shows the Mayan civilization basically consists of Gibson just portraying them as savages that didn't know how to run a society.

Oh I'm not saying it's the "bomb diggity (lolz)".  But it's not as bad as Himuro is making it seem and there are some pretty boring parts.  But it's easily worth the price of admission.

And I was hoping it would show more of the actualy Mayans.  But it was meant to show how they were towards the end, right before their downfall.  They were pretty fucking out there towards the end.  The sacrifice scene is a perfect example.

I thought the first part was excellent because it actually had character development.

Apocalypto wins easily.  Borat is a movie I can only see once.  I could watch Apocalypto more than once.

I agree.

But my problem with Apocalypto is that it sets things up, but doesn't bother to flesh  them.

2. You're chased by these guys for almost a day in the forest and just because you see them welcoming the Europeans you don't kill them? Come on! Uneventful total.

I think the question is...why didn't those guys kill Jaguar Paw? Jaguar Paw couldn't have killed them at that point anyhow...he was completely drained and had no weapons on him. And I'll give Gibson the benefit of the doubt in believing that the sight of those ships would make any Mayan stop in his tracks and think WTF?

I thought the ships arriving was completely wrong in terms of history. I thought Europeans had destroyed the Aztec empire, not the Mayans, but apparently the Mayans lived on in the northern parts of the Yucatan into the 1500s...so it's at least a plausible scenario.

Clarification though.  The movie was awesome.  It's not like it's my favorite movie or something.  But it was very entertaining for the most part and very well done.
