So, this is my track record with video game systems this gen.
360: My original launch console red ringed and was replaced by Microsoft (my roommate lied on the purchase date and got the system replaced for free). Six months later and AFTER the longer warranty was instated, my second 360 red ringed. Microsoft told me that the second console's warranty wasn't booted up to the longer time frame since they already replaced the first system. Me and tehjaybo took my 360 apart in his garage and looked up how to fix the 3RLOD problem. It's worked up until this past Sunday night. The video signal turned yellow while I was playing Halo 3. I turned off my system and turned it back on after checking the component cables and received no picture. I've since tried another pair of component cables. No dice.
360 #3 will be purchased this Friday on payday. Since I already have a 60 GB hard drive I'm just getting an Arcade. $200 down the drain.
PS3: I purchased a 60 GB PS3 the summer after the system came out. It lasted until last summer, when the system yellow lighted. For those unfamiliar with that problem, it is basically the PS3 version of the red ring except there is no easy do it yourself fix for it. This time, I actually sent in the system and paid the $150 to get it fixed. The second system Sony sent me broke in under 24 hours. The third system they sent me easily overheats. It shut off during games about six months afterwards, and Sony wants me to pay another $150. I can only play Final Fantasy XIII when the air conditioning is running at full blast in my room.
Wii: is just a piece of shit anyways.

I know it's Sony but I'm still a little surprised by their ineptitude. At least MS will fix your crap if you send it in. There should be some kinda law to protect the customer from having to pay another service fee within 1 year of getting back a fixed unit.

1 pc that is mainly awesome but the fan on my giant heatsink started clicking and if that goes I better by a new giant heatsink soon because my pc is gonna melt otherwise. Keeping a close look to temp gauge
1 laptop that is starting to bsod on me
1 psp with a shitty square button that is flakey
1 psp with a red dead pixel
1 ds that is ugly
1 ds lite that is hot
Yeah, hardware in general sucks. :(
I think of gaming now like a car. You need to put aside maintenance $$$ to replace parts (systems) :(

my 360 has been going strong for over a year and has not broken, thus nobody else should be having any problems with the 360 because mine is perfect

Damn, with all the money you've spent on broken console hardware, you could have gotten a 9/10 PC. Don't worry about the fan dying on your V8 heatsink although I would try to replace it. That heatsink is strong enough without a fan as long as your other case fans are still working.

My launch PS3 Ylod'd 5 months ago, I had :bow extended warranty :bow2 on this and they went totally overboard and replaced every component in it and bc still works, typically I got Sony'd in the ass as my old hdd didn't work in the new system (change in motherboards) and I lost all my save data. Didn't buy a 360 till dec 2009 and I still don't use it that much, however it once did the red ring thing 2 times when I tried turning it on but then it hasn't done it again.
Had the same Dell dimension 2400 since I was 16 (22 now) and it still runs sweet! (I also have a modern laptop for work and stuff but don't really play games on it) basically I only use my PC to play older console and PC games :bow emulators, GOG, FreeSpace 2 :bow2.
It always pays to get extended warranties, even if consumer laws and shit should protect you in theory that shit never works out unless you put work into it. I can never be fucked fighting the system :'( I'm a happy little tool :) I also think hardware this gen is fucking amazing, with tech as complex as it is now it's a damn difficult balancing act to make a cheap yet powerful system like PS3 and 360. I commend Sony and MS no matter how much they've fucked up, it was a far more difficult task this gen than previous gens and for the most part they've - after very extended periods of shit - owned up and fixed what people weren't happy with.

I had RROD once which was a little annoying, but the sheer joy I get my 360 far outweighs that.

The ds and the wii were the first nintendo systems that had hardware problems for me. Second wii isn't giving me any problems though.

I've had three RRODs, and I still agree. I look forward to the priviledge of buying a new 360 if they do a smaller version.

The only system I've ever had a problem with was my OG X-box thanks to the crappy DVD drive.

My track record. Mostly just replacing older models for newer ones.
-PS3: Still on the same 20GB launch model. At some point would like to get a slim for U.S. DVDs and wi-fi (to use ad-hoc party and stream video), but not until they're cheap.
-Wii: Still on the same launch model.
-360: Currently on #4. #1 was bought at launch and RRoD'd in 2007, IIRC. #2 was defective right out of the box. #3 was fine but occasionally would freeze up, so I traded it out for the current model (wanted HDMI and a quieter drive anyway) in 2008.
-PSP: Currently on #5. #1 fell off a counter and the screen busted. #2 was a friend's hacked PSP that he sold me cheap to replace it. I tried to mod it for video out and failed. #3 was a white 1000 series. #4 was a launch model that was hacked. Still have it. #5 is a 2000 that is hacked.
-DS: Currently on #5. #1 was sold because DS fat sucked at launch. I got a Japanese PSP instead. #2 was a white fat DS bought for Castlevania DoS. Sold that to get #3, which was a light blue DS Lite. Wanted white though, and thanks to Japan's insane trade prices at the time, I was able to trade that DS Lite for a brand new white one, the difference being 1000 yen. #4 was sold off just recently; got a #5, a DSi, in 2008 and didn't touch it after that. I barely ever play this system.

They both sucked. We got an equal amount of busted fat PS2s and OG Xbox systems at my old game store job.

Yeah, if PC gaming wasn't dying slowly I would be much more inclined to purchase a gaming rig. Hell, two of my three favorite games from last year were also on PC (one was definitely the more superior version of the game as well.)
I was always more of a console gamer because I thought it was cheaper. Lol, guess Sony and Microsoft are proving me the fuck wrong.

Yeah, it's a lot of garbage these days. I remember when console manufacturers aspired to make hardware build quality superior to "Chinese knockoff" status but those days are gone. I'd be interested to know how much these mistakes cost the companies because if it isn't much, then I expect another batch of shoddy hardware the next generation.
Edit: I found the 360 drives to be quiet for some games, jet engine/grindy for others. I typically just install games these days and delete off the HD when I'm done with them.

Any decent PC today could push 4-5x more polys than 360,but nobody is willing to invest money.

-2 360's
-1 PS3
-1 Crysis Gaming PC
-1 Laptop (not gaming, but I did play some games on it)
Surprisingly enough, my launch Xbox lasted the longest out of all of those, making it 2 1/2 years before kicking the bucket. Everything else was less than 2 years old when it died :-\
