Well deserved.

yeah, but that wasn't free

i think we already established that this games plays to every current japanese gaming fad, so this shouldn't be a surprise

I think this is the thing that makes me skeptical for future MGS games. MGS4 sucked balls and now I'm going to have to be wary of every Metal Gear related title.

Title should've read "Famitsu finally discredited"
In the past few years they've been handing out 40/40 like nobody's business. Come on. I'm sure Peace Walker is a fun game, but wow.

Tying people to balloons and invisible helicopters?

"Finally?" They lost that credibility years and years ago. Then you had Patel's classic GAF post detailing the truth behind their Final Fantasy Dirge Of Cerberus score.

Hmm, I think it's another thread that was edited when the heat started building.

GAF (a popular gaming forum) contributor Jackfrost 2012 speculates with the following comment: "a 7777--delayed THREE times from the official release date--sends a different message. It says, 'You're the publisher and we're the Japanese press and we have to do what you say, but we're not even going to pretend there's a single person out there who could like this piece of shit. You're getting the lowest possible score from all of our reviewers that still nets you your Silver [award].'"

FAMITSU CROSS REVIEW: DIRGE OF CERBERUS

7 - "It was hard to choose a score, as I've never played an FPS before. Then again, I've never played any of the games I review."
7 - "This game should appeal to fans of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, as well as anyone else skilled at the art of incredible self-deception."
7 - "So the levels are lackluster and the controls are completely ass-backwards--did you see Yuffie's creamy thighs?"
7 - "Rest assured, I write all of my reviews with the same careful attention to detail that Square Enix brings to each of their A-list titles."
-
American publishers do not have final say over what American reviewers write. American publishers are generally more immune to threats of withdrawn advertising than Japanese publishers. Japanese "reviews" say exactly what the Japanese publishers want them to say; no more, no less.
When you see reviews that are a mix of somenegative, some high--like Dirge of Cerberus--what it means, universally, is that the game sucks, but the publisher argued the magazine into having a few higher scores to balance out the average/overall score and create the illusion that the game is, in some ways, not terrible.
THE GAME IS STILL TERRIBLE.
It was after that thread that I stopped seeing Famitsu as having any kind of credibility. It always seemed like the magazine got put on a pedestal because OMFG IT'S FROM JAPAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o :o :o :o anyway.

:rofl
:heart Patel :heart

I don't believe any reviews at all. I get my gaming recommendations from Evilbore.
-
Wow, Patel idolizes Japs so much that he tried to pin the crap reviews on obviously non-Asian people.
-
:bow Japanese chicks :bow2
-
Topic: *game fanboys are expecting* only gets a 32/40 from Famitsu.
Body: Famitsu is biased anyway. I never trusted any of their reviews.

Same with me, but I wish gaming publications would just get over themselves and realize video games are more a service than they are an art and stop trying to be so professional about something so trivial.
