They don't have any competition because they've boxed themselves into a very niche corner. The only people who buy Blackberrys anymore are insecure businessmen or tweens who haven't had a chance to upgrade to one of the Android or Apple smartphones.
-
My company makes us use Blackberrys. :-\ I have two.
-
RIM still sells 4 or 5 of the top 10 selling smartphones in the US.
10) myTouch 3G from T-Mobile
9) RIM BlackBerry Tour from Alltel, Sprint, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless
8) Palm Pre from Sprint
7) RIM BlackBerry Storm 9530 & Storm 2 9550 from Verizon Wireless
6) RIM BlackBerry Bold 9000 & 9700 from AT&T and T-Mobile
5) RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8110, 8120, & 8130 from Alltel, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and others
4) Apple iPhone 3G from AT&T
3) Motorola DROID from Verizon Wireless
2) Apple iPhone 3GS 16GB & 32GB versions from AT&T
1) RIM BlackBerry Curve 8310, 8320, 8330, 8350i, 8520, 8530 & 8900 from Alltel, AT&T, MetroPCS, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, and Verizon Wireless.

Welp, I suck. >:(
I still think they're backing themselves into a corner with their refusal to update their fucking OS. Terrible terrible OS.
-
I'm stuck with my shitty curve until Verizon let's me pick a new phone for my next plan. :'(
-
BB are very popular over here, teens and tweens love the fuck out of the bb-chat.

If by "insecure businessmen" you mean, "almost every single businessman", then you're right.
Anecdote: around New Year's, after the underwear bomber, I did a few days of enhanced security at the Toronto airport doing patdowns. Hundreds of business travellers coming through and the vast majority of them were packing BBs.

It's the only edge that blackberries have.

This leaked phone has 6.0, with Webkit browser.

That still doesn't change the fact that it looks awful
