Meet my pal, Mr. Fermi.
The Republic might have shortened the gap but the Empire is striking back!

Look at the pretty heat pipes.

The Mass Effect one maybe... the other two just look like Xbox games to me. What exactly is wow? I still see jagged twig branches for trees.
It's probably more of "have to be there" moment... cause those pics dont really wow me.

No kidding. I'm scared that my rig will explode at any time.
The 480 GTX is hot enough by itself. When you put more than one in a case, the PC turns into a furnace.
The computer room feels like Summer while the rest of the house is only low 70s.

Mostly the insanely high amount of AA and high framerate while having generally higher detail than the console games. The framerates in ME and Batman:AA are actually closer to 120 or above but stupid UE3 caps in-game action to 60.

Mass Effect 2 is a horrible game to post. It looks amazing on Xbox.
Try games that people laud as considerably better:
- GTA4 (considering this game is trash period, maybe a PC can make it not look like shit)
- Mirror's Edge (omg cloths)
- Saint's Row 2
- Metro 2033
- Far Cry 2 (i own this on PC, but dont have a WS monitor or anything)
- DiRT 2
- Assassin's Creed 2 / Splinter Cell
-
Ok, I'll try some of them. The problem with taking shots is that the best ones happen during intense gameplay which make it hard to capture at the exact moment.
Maybe I should take some tips from Sfags. They are the masters at screenshot battles.

:bow Mass Effect :bow

Dirt 2 would be a good one since it has a lot of those cool DX11 features.
You should really try Metro 2033.

Thats Metro? I tthought that was Gears :lol
-
It's made in Eastern Europe. Those guys aren't know for their creativity. Check out the blur on the bottom left guy. A little exaggerated but pretty cool.
-
Whoops, I missed it because of Mass Effect boobs.
-
Funny I instantly thought that was Metro but I haven't played it or Gears I just knew it's the latest hawt DX11 post-apocalyptic game on the block and SG was sure to capture a couple screens from it to show off his beast. I don't think screenshots could ever do a good rig justice though, definitely need to be there to experience the beauty. Whatdya reckon of that Asus ROG the guys talked about in the last Borecast Smooth? Getting a lump sum in a few months and trying to figure out whether to get a desktop and a cheaper laptop or just get a pricier laptop. I think the only thing that turns me off is the screen is kinda meh, but the hardware seems reasonably future proof.

I didn't have a very good experience with a gaming laptop. There was just a ton of heat issues. I guess it's somewhat expected from a machine that is several times smaller than a PS3/360 yet is considerably more powerful. But Prole says that the new ROG models are very efficiently cooled and I trust his knowledge. You'll still get more more performance for the buck on desktop hardware, if budget is a concern. Unless you do most of your gaming away from home, a good gaming desktop + a cheaper laptop probably makes more sense.

Nice screens, keep them coming ;)
-
Yeah def leaning toward a new desktop then use my old one for mame or something.
-
What did you do with your old video cards smooth? :-*

I showed this thread to some girls I know and they all want your number now.
must be the fabulous carpet under his rig.

those shots look good. of course, the real joy is seeing them looking like that and running at 60fps with better shadows, reflections, texture resolution, AA, AF, etc. console gamers don't really think about that part when they criticize PC screens. They think your copy of Mass Effect also runs at 20fps
-
yeah, most times you see a insane perfect shot with super samping crysis or w/e, the game probably runs like poop. Even those videos that show off insane crysis physics are often filmed choppy, then edited to seem like it was running at a smooth frame rate. That stuff is nice, but it isn't really why I like playing games on PC. I prefer to have smooth performance over raw visual quality and will drop some effects if needed to get 60 fps (or at least above 30). I think a smoother frame rate affects gameplay more and is one reason why the CoD games are so popular; MW2 is super smooth and responsive compared to the average game.
I'd actually prefer it if more devs would focus on maintaining a minimum of 30 fps on consoles over pushing visuals. I think Remedy is smart if they chose to drop the resolution for Alan Wake in favor of a smooth frame rate. I mean, Uncharted 2 is a special case where it seems near flawless visually, but for as much praise that Killzone 2 gets, at times it can get really choppy. Then there is Heavy Rain with absurd tearing and frame rate problems, Banjo Nuts and Bolts, Mass Effect 1, etc. Like, textures in Mass effect 2 are kinda bad but it runs so much better than the first game on both PC and 360.
-
I agree about dropping visual quality for frame rate. I hate games that have hdr and all that shit, yet run at an unstable 30fps, if that. Mass Effect 1 is a slide show in combat on the 360. Oblivion was also pretty damn bad like this...horrible frame rate and loading. Halo 3 seems to have killed all of its image quality so they could get some fancy hdr in there.
-
Is that shot of Crysis vanilla? There are some pretty amazing mods, I would love to see some beefy mods runnin Crysis on your rig
-
How do you even get the option to use 64x AA? :lol

It's a new Nvidia feature that can be enabled if you're using at least two 4XX in SLI.
Also, in that pic, I'm using 4x supersampling on the transparent textures. It's actually a bigger drain on performance than the 64XAA. That's why the twigs are so clean.
-
Here's another sample of 64xAA plus 4X supersampling
Notice how the fences are devoid of shimmering.
