Title: nothing ventured, nothing gained!
Post by: recursivelyenumerable on April 28, 2010, 08:38:18 PM
Basically I want something that looks like this ->

(i.e. WP7/Metro-ish minimalism, but without actually using Segoe Light)

except NOT HIDEOUS.  I'm insecure about the rhythms and proportions here, and not sure how to fix them.  Should I just abandon the diagonal thing?

agggh wtf is this not showing up?  it works when I do "open image in new tab" tho

I definitely appreciate the effort, and I like the layouts, but the font is a bit wilder than I'd like.  I'll mull it over.  I'd probably prefer something more Futura-ish, but I don't have Futura on this computer ...

Come on.  It's like the cards are saying "recursive: Software developer by day, hairdresser by night".  What potential boss wouldn't want that?

That font is horrible

Yeah but Segoe is basically Frutiger -- a fairly understated font.

This happens every time I ask for help designing something, I can never articulate what I want and as a consequence I never get it, I just annoy the designer with endless vague requests for revisions, until he finally gives up and quits.

So do the rest of you guys agree it looks too "elitist clothing store" (?) with the Futura?  I just picked it because it's my favorite typeface in general, but maybe it's inappropriate here.  Maybe just go back to the Corbel I originally picked?  Sigh ...

natural point of emphasis.  Doin' thangs WITH software.  Makes software that much more important.  Like you might just be every Joe Sixpack who's doin' thangs, but you're doin' thangs WITH software.

I see ... so the contrast highlighted here isn't with SOFTWARE vs. with SOMETHING OTHER THAN SOFTWARE, but rather WITH software vs. WITHOUT software?  Is it meant to suggest that software-having-ness is really orthogonal to other-things-having-ness, and of course that there's no substitute for software?

"If you refer to a group of politicians or other people as a cabal, you are criticizing them because they meet and decide things secretly."
