Anyone here getting in on this? Starts next week! I just got my beta code, they say it'll take around 5 gigs to download, although I'm sure that number will keep growing...
Apparently you can play online even if you have a silver account! Not sure if it'll work if you're outside of Japan though, the info that came with the code gives the impression that you need to have a Japanese ISP to work so it might be IP blocked?

Yeah, the PC version is region locked. They even have mods checking that there aren't westerners playing with proxies and such :( I'd be down with this if they ever release a non-jap version though.

eh no real urgency here,specialy since like right now i'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more stronger than a starting character and the start is really boring since you can fight like 3 monsters and one of them (the first giant monster ever) is especialy lame

Beta is available to download now! It's about a gig, although the servers don't open until Wednesday.

mine was just a consideration since it seems weird to see all these people trying to infiltrate a japanese beta when they could... you know... play a different but not beta monster hunter in english!
Originalz (and DCharlie) is in Japan, it would make sense he'd want to try it out.

It'll actually be nice to be able to play a damn MMO and be able to communicate. My copy of Windows is in English and I can't change the language input to Japanese while I'm playing a game (even though I have a Japanese keyboard). The few times I tried playing Japanese MMOs, I could only type in romanji. Despite me understanding what they were saying and what I was typing made sense, there was no faster way to get kicked out of a group than start typing romanji! It got to the point where I would only communicate through emotes and Japanese netslang that uses English, although I would eventually give up completely.
Anyway, they postponed the beta one day so hopefully it'll work when I get back later tonight.

Wow...
This thing is bugged to hell, frequent disconnects and crashes it appears like. The menu system is unstable as hell, I tried to connect to a server after creating my character and it crashed back to the main menu. Had to redownload the patches, and I had to make my character all over again.
Graphics are pretty poor overall, it's really hard to read some icons and text so I guess you'd better have a big TV, I'd imagine it's completely unplayable in SD. Control system is kind of confusing but I guess it's the sort of thing you get used to.
Lots of people playing, no problem finding groups for quests, although you'd better have a keyboard or chatpad or else you'll go insane trying to type using the onscreen keyboard.
Overall, the gameplay is pretty underwhelming and pretty dated. I suppose it could be fun once you get deeper into the game and fight huge monsters, but for the few hours I've been playing, it's kind of dull. No way in hell would I pay a monthly fee to play this.
