Who will pay for PSN (besides Methodis)?

According to a highly-placed source, Sony will announce a large-scale monetizing scheme for PSN at the LA show, but we’re assured nothing planned will impact the service’s current free aspects.A string of features will be revealed, apparently costing “less than £50 per year”.Sony will confirm plans to give all subscribers one free PSN game per month, from a choice of “two to four” every month.“If you work it out, PSN games cost an average of £6-9 each, so over a year you’re basically going to be breaking even,” said our source.A streaming music application similar to Spotify will be announced in Sony’s press conference on June 15. It’s thought that this can run in the background while playing games.Rumours that cross-game voice chat is being saved as a paid feature are apparently not true, we were told.“I can tell you now, 100 percent, that that’s not the case,” our man continued.“There’s nothing in the premium package which will gimp regular PSN users.”The PSN premium services announcement is thought to be a major part of Sony’s E3 conference, which will also heavily feature Move.

I'm guessing it's basically a bunch of Move games and other things that casual gamers are really interested in?

Well I don't hear anything about a party system but cross game chat is definitely a step in the right direction. In fact if they get a party system and cross game chat in place that's what I see as differentiating XBL from PSN bar the download speeds from XBL seem to be faster for me than PSN (local servers or something with XBL I guess) however the online games I play on PSN (LBP, Uncharted 2, Warhawk) all work just as well as any online 360 game I've played.

I keep checking that old site every week or two. It's still up and just says out of stock. Theres a similar giveaway I found by putting in

I came up with

leaked code doesn't work for this no more but it only gave you two days and it wasn't stackable anyhow. Ima keep checkin that url though to see what else may pop up.

I don't get this.  You're paying a subscription fee to get "free" games? Is streaming music the only other thing going for it?

It depends on what types of games and feature they provide.  Good that they're not removing features at least, as if the standard PSN wasn't bare enough.

Doesn't Qore also give you a free game every month or something?

Used to.  Used to make sure you got in every beta too.  Last "exclusive" thing on qore was the modnation racers psp demo released a week early.

According to Joystiq's sources, Sony is set to reveal a premium tier of the PlayStation Network service, labeled PSN+, during its 2010 E3 media briefing. Unlike Microsoft's Xbox Live Gold service, PSN+ will focus on giving paid subscribers additional bonuses without limiting online multiplayer between paying and nonpaying users.

Many of the features included in the premium service mimic those featured in a supposed survey released late last year. Sources tell us that subscribers will have access to a rotating list of PSP Minis and PSone Classics, exclusive in-game DLC, discounts to the PlayStation Store and "first hour" demo access to full retail titles. Following the first hour of gameplay, players will have the ability to purchase the full title; however, demo access will only be available once the entire title has been downloaded.

Quote
As PSN+ subscribers, gamers will also receive protection for their consoles with the recently announced PlayStation Protection Plan, as well as exclusive access to the long-awaited cross-game voice chat. Additional features are said to be in the works following the launch of PSN+, including the previously rumored cloud-based saving system.

Joystiq has been informed that PSN+ subscribers will also have the ability to enable an auto-patching feature, which will detect, download and install updates for recently played PS3 titles on the system.

Pricing and a release for the PSN+ service is unknown, though one source speculates PSN+ may cost $9.99 per month. When contacted, a Sony representative said the company does not "comment on rumors or speculation."

A one-year extension for the PS3 will cost $44.99, while a two-year plan will cost $59.99. The PSP plan is $29.99 for one year, and $39.99 for two years. An "accidental damage" option is also being offered for $10 more.

I agree too.  Everyone's eventually going to be paying.  The clock is nearing midnight and this dance is about to end.  Welcome to the ass end of business people.

What fucking boggles my mind about this is the supposed "autopatch" feature.  I mean WTF.  I need some clarification here.  If I can't patch my game without having to subscribe to PSN+....fuck that.  If that's even true then paying for XBL doesn't look bad at all in comparison.

The worst thing to me is the exclusive in-game DLC.  Like what if they make a deal with EA or whatever to split the profits of PSN+ if EA only offers its VIP content on the service?

Also, cross-game chat is pretty much useless unless most of your online gaming and friends are on PS3.

are we pretending like people don't pay a subscription fee for MMORPapps  ???

It is hilarious that the first hour to play PSN games is part of this.  The reason I buy so few PSN games is because they don't provide a demo and now they want you to pay for the chance to demo a game? Microsoft was smart to make this stuff standard.  Even the community games have a better solution.

What they love to rip on Live is you paying for online gaming.

but your not paying for that with PSN+, hence they will continue ripping on Live.

No, it sounds like Arcade games where you download the FULL game, play like the first hour and then you can choose to either stop playing or pay for the game and not lose the progress you've made so far.  The only real problem is that they're charging you money for a demo to a game that you might buy.  It would be funny if MS copied that service for XBL but let silver users do it.
