Title: Fuck Nintendo and their no price drop rule
Post by: Himu on May 21, 2010, 01:10:04 AM
Wanted a platformer ds cuz I'm going on a longggggggg trip and could use some jumpin' and stompin', and since I'm in a Mario mood cuz of Mario Galaxy game of the generation (tm) I wanted New Super Mario Bros. cuz despite my grievances with it it's still one of the best platformers on the system alongside Yoshi's Island ds and Kirby's Canvas Curse and I actually like it more than most 2d Mario titles (I actually think it's probably the best overall 2d Mario except for Yoshi's Island and World, nostalgiafags can suck it) so I wanted to get it and guess what? It's still full price at retailers. 35 at Wal Mart, 30-35 at gamestop. 25 used at gamestop. This game came out almost half a decade ago at the price of 35 dollars and these fucks are still charging that amount?

Nintendo is ran by cocks.

I got Henry Hatsworth instead. I got Henry Hatsworth instead for like 12 bucks.

Keep in mind that their resale value also stays high. Generally speaking anyways, I don't know what the used market is like for handheld games.

Even Twilight Princess isn't 20 dollars yet. Mario Galaxy is still like full price...new and Galaxy 2 comes out in in a few days.

I miss the days when Nintendo games bombed left and right and they'd release player choice editions just a year later.

I actually sold SMG a week ago, without a case or manual, for $30 including shipping.

Player's Choice is dead.  Iwata said so himself a while back.  Other than last generation, Player's Choice Titles didn't come out for a bit.  I remember finally getting a copy of SMK 5 years after its original release.

Quote
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has attacked the current pricing model used by the videogames industry, saying that software should be priced appropriately at launch rather than being reduced rapidly by retailers.

Speaking in a corporate management policy briefing, the full text of which was released by Nintendo this week, Iwata described the model whereby retailers drop the prices of software in the months after launch as an "unhealthy product cycle."

"We believe that each software should have its own price point depending on its volume, theme, contents or energies and time spent for the development, namely, the development costs," he commented, continuing by saying that "once the suggested retail price is announced, we should stick to it."

At present, the models used by publishers and retailers alike are not suited to releasing games at price points other than the top-end RRPs for console software - with many publisher shying away from lower-priced releases for fear that retailers and consumers will treat them as being lower quality budget software.

However, Iwata believes that the discounting of full-price software which has become prevalent in the industry is even more damaging than this effect, and is damaging the sales of new software.

"If the suggested retail price of any and all software is marked down in 6 months or 9 months, the customers will learn the cycle and wait for the discounting," he explained, "which will simply aggravate the decreasing sales of new software."

I've bought Mass Effect 2, FFXIII, God of War III and Heavy Rain in the past few months. And a few PSN games.
More than enough.

And yeah, pretty ironic that I've bought FFXIII. I've pirated much better games.

Just buy the games second hand, Himuro. Problem solved. You don't have to buy them new. I'm sure there are a lot of people who want to get rid of their Nintendo games.

Yeah, it's out, demi. The file is only 1.3GB big and seems to work flawlessly.

I often have to wonder what angry interned nerds are trying to prove by selective pirating.  I say either go full out or dont do it at all.
