Title: Killzone 3 Confirmed (Gamepro Article)
Post by: Purple Filth on May 21, 2010, 05:16:49 PM
Taken from here

http://www.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=27322649&tag=topics%3Btitle

Expect GAF to become even more unbearable or this is the greatest Aprill folls joke of all time  :lol

Quote
included in the article (while im reading)

- Will show the Helghast have humanity left in them.

- Will have the feeling that "of being in a place far away from home, outnumbered by people who want to kill you."

- Will be like Inglorious Basterds.

- All of the characters in the screenshots are flying in.. jetpacks?!

- Will include arctic levels.

- One mission in the game involves rescuing ISA Captain Narville.

- Game is playable in 3D!

- Have to wear 3D glasses, apparently the 3D effects are "crazy."

- Combat is "unchanged from predecessor."

- Or is it? Hand to hand combat involves you "Unloading a string of different (and often brutal) attacks on stunned enemies."

- The scale is supposed to be "bigger this time."

- The Jetpacks are "surprisingly lightweight and agile, Killzone 3's jetpack is easier to maneuver compared to the sluggish incarnations of the gadget found in other games."

- New weapon called the Wasp, basically shoots a "flurry of rockets" at an enemy.

- Will show off the Helgjast culture.

- There is actually a Helghast language, which will be explored in the game.

- Will have "diverse locales."

- Have to sit in the center of the 3D tv for the 3D effects to work.

- 3D in this game is called a "Game Changer."

- Going to have "Intense Action"

Jetpacks double as a weapon, which basically means a machine gun mounted right on top of it.

- If you shoot Helghast with jetpacks, they'll "explode like roman candles"

- To control the jetpack, you "have to activate bursts of speed in midair, propelling yourself across further distances."

- The Jetpack resembles something you'd do in platformers such as Super Mario Bros. Or Uncharted

- In one mission, you have to use the jetpack by "launching yourself from glacier to glacier"

- You'll see "a lot of" snow levels.

- Everything is more spread out in this game.

- The game looks very complete.

The graphics look the same.  Polygon count on environment is as weak as always.

But if the post-processing effects are as fantastic as the last game it'll look great in motion.  Killzone 2 probably has the best effects in any game outside Crysis.

Killzone 2 is the most overrated game of this gen.  Seriously, how is it 90% on gamerankings?  Even Sfags will now admit that it's crap.

2 days ago I was able to play Killzone 3 behind closed doors in Amsterdam and have to say that it looks crazy.

The graphics are still based on the same engine as its predecessor, but was immensely improved.
While the playable areas of the second part of the series were pretty linear, we can assume that there will be wider areas like those of Battlefield BC 2.
What impressed me the most in the 30 minutes were the snow effects. It just looks fantastic how the snow lays down on the weapon and melts when shooting – and all that in 3D!
To be honest, I was a bit sceptical but KZ3 looks phenomenal in 3D, the explosions, the rain and the snow seem to be so real, that hollywood blockbusters like Avatar pale in comparison.
According to Guerilla each exemplar will be shipped with 2 killzone-styled 3D glasses.

I can’t say anything about the controls, because Sony didn’t show anything about them, but KZ3 is targeted to be played with a generic controller or the Arc.

P.s. You should all mark your calendars for March 13th

http://start2begin.co.cc/?p=257 (http://start2begin.co.cc/?p=257)

Very impressive.

Eh, it was more all the debris flying around and crazy lighting that made it look real good.  Also very good use of motion blur (like Crysis).

I don't think it's one of the best looking games this gen, but I do think it was a good looking game in motion.  Plus

When is E3 by the way? I thought it was this month, I need mah Metal Gear rising info :hyper

You know, I'm up for an awesome Killzone game and I'm willing to give the third one a shot. There are a couple of problems though:

- First game was complete and utter shit
- Second game had horrible controls and felt very slow

Yeah, not really hyped for this one but Naughty Dog involvement gives me hope. Those guys know how to make a fun game with solid controls.

I think graphically Killzone 2 was and still is an amazing game. I thought as an actual game though it wasn't quite so amazing. Good but not great.

Especially the controls and the input lag.

So is my alt.

So you think I'm Methodis.

No. I think you have the same lame gimmick as Methodis

Which is

Playing stupid like you are doing now and being a raging fanboy.

At this point I will drop it though simply because unlike you I generally want threads to be about game discussion rather than fanboy shit. Perhaps you can remember what that was before you became what you are.

Playing stupid? Sorry, you must have me confused with your reflection.

Now, as for the last sentence; that was really deep  :himu
Title: Re: Killzone 3 Confirmed (Gamepro Article)

I think that Naughty Dog involvement is not about making the game better.
3D is the key...Killzone 2 didn't even have split-screen,tough work to be done

But post-processing runs at 360p upscaled,so they will have no problems with that. :smug

One more thing

This will probably be a showcase 3D title for Sony, together with GT5(zzz,racing game,no guns,no explosions)

It doesn't have much real word hype, but it has rabid hardcore fanatics...ideal audience for expensive 3D TVs

If they fuck that,3D will be proclaimed as meh the game is shit, who cares about 3D.

Yeah, reviewers really dropped the ball on this one.  It's like they all believed that Killzone 2 was AAA after the devs fed them a bunch of bs about how technologically impressive it was.

That pretty much explains why Sony is coming out with another sequel for such a middling franchise.  People are just fucking stupid in general; if you tell them something long and hard enough, they will believe it.

It worked for Iron Man so why not expect that it'll work for Killzone?

Add to that better lod systems that doesn't make characters textures distort in some whacky way when they die. And let's give a nod to the level of geometry, physics, animation, character models, effects like snow .

All Killzone 2 has going for it is over use of motion blur and a lightning system that is pretty good. Everything else wasn't anything special for the time, the characters, the particle effects (explosions look like utter shit) etc.

All Killzone 2 has on Uncharted 2 is a midget with a severe case of head trauma that makes everything go blur when he moves.

And speaking of the game itself, good god mate. I read about these amazing setpieces that happen like the train...what the fuck, i played that shit, there was nothing amazing about it. The game is boring, sluggish, doesn't have anything to say and has really bad characters.

Why is it even getting hyped when the sequel did about as well as Resistance 2 (not a compliment) is just funny.

I've always thought the bias most hardcore gamers and reviewers have is that they think automatically great graphics equal great gameplay. So suddenly in praising the great graphics they often let that slip over into the gameplay. When honestly they are two separate things almost completely.

I love how much hype Killzone 2 received before the game launched when Guerilla Game's game portfolio at the time consisted of mostly shitty games and completely shitty games when they were known as Lost Boys. I guess Liberation was pretty decent but that was neither a FPS or on a console.

Because Sony bought them, and pumped a lot of money into tech. That's it.

It's crazy how much hype (insert Sony title) got... 10,000 post threads at GAF with sfags circle-jerking each other off 24/7 for months on end.  I'm shocked to find out the game turned out to be nothing more than an average (insert type of game), stunned!  Disgusting sfags..

This template pretty much works for any Sony exclusive.  I just ripped it off K-bear.  :lol

I enjoyed Killzone 2. I felt a bit lost with the multiplayer, which I liked more in theory than in execution. I always felt like the matches took too long and felt like there weren't enough options in match types. Also, I felt like the GAF clan was kind of an insular group, and not very welcoming.

I'd like to see more info on Killzone 3, though the idea of the game being in 3d and using the Move does nothing for me, as I'm not going to be purchasing a 3D TV for years and I couldn't care less about waggle. I actually liked Killzone 2's controls, especially the way they felt during the beta.

At the least, it'll be interesting to see how 3D is implemented in Killzone 3.  Killzone 2 barely ran at 30fps and it's well known that true 3D has a huge impact on performance.

The effects in Killzone 2 are top notch (even if they use sub HD buffer resolutions) but I prefer the superior art direction, texturing, shadows, lighting, and environment design in Uncharted 2. Plus the overused motion blur reduces the visual fidelity IMO.

Lighting goes to Killzone 2. You're crazy if you think Uncharted 2 had more impressive lighting.

Also, the art direction in KZ2 was phenomenal; they really nailed the atmosphere in that game.

I'm talking about everything to do with lighting. Uncharted 2 definitely had more color, I believe I mentioned this a few posts up.

The only game in recent memory that had very impressive lighting was BF:BC2 on PC. And that's a directx 11 game.

Lighting goes to Killzone 2. You're crazy if you think Uncharted 2 had more impressive lighting.

I think Naughty Dog had a more impressive lighting engine with their pre-pass system. They used deferred rendering in addition to forward rendering which is a step above what Killzone 2 was capable of.

Of course Lens-flares are post process effects, that is common knowledge.

Here's your post: They used deferred rendering in addition to forward rendering which is a step above what Killzone 2 was capable of.

Title: Re: Killzone 3 Confirmed (Gamepro Article)

Naughty Dog produced a very elegant lighting system that I believe is a step beyond Killzone 2's simple and post processor reliant system.

But this isn't the same as "They used deferred rendering in addition to forward rendering which is a step above what Killzone 2 was capable of."

It's interesting how you claim I don't know what I'm talking about, yet it is you who was just proven wrong  :)

So wait, you need a 3D tv for the 3D shit right?

If so, lol at Sony.

3D is an added feature for people who have 3D televisions (coming soon from Sony!), not the only way to play the game. Even without 3D this is a sequel to one of the best looking games on consoles, arguably better than anything on 360, a game that has a Metacritic score is in the 90's and was GAF's FPS of the year in 2009.

So it's only okay to troll Killzone 2/3 in this thread?

You catch on quickly.

But the trolls have been sloppy; We've had 1 guy who couldn't distinguish between present and past tense, another guy who was proven wrong, and then some guy ranting about needing a 3D TV to view 3D content.

It's been quite fun actually :D

Oh, and there's one more thing that we've declined to mention so far. Killzone 3 will be one of the first Sony titles to support 3D out of the box, and thanks to a prototype TV using active shutter glasses set up at the event we can report that it looks stupendous – bullets zip out of the screen while particles such as snow and sparks are tangible elements of the game world. It feels like much more than a gimmick as well: peripheral details such as raging seas thrashing the icebergs combine with the way the player's gun seems to hang out of the screen (and indeed people were living up to the age-old clich? and reaching out to touch what wasn't there during the presentations) to create a level of immersion that's truly beyond anything we've seen to date.

I said wow.

With levels ten times bigger than in Killzone 2, this is Helghan like you’ve never seen it before. You’ll face brutal combat in a host of environments that threaten to bury you on the deadly planet. Killzone 3 will see you trudge through toxic nuclear wastelands, get lost in a lethal alien jungle, fight in bitter arctic conditions and take the battle into space as you fight against Helghast domination – with every location featuring a distinct gameplay style for you to master.

Ahh, that's what we were missing, a slight respite from the gray. The story sounds like it has a chance of being interesting this time around too as Helghan is in a state of civil war since you killed Visari.

Not interested in 3DTV until the sets can match the performance of the final generation Pioneer Kuro.  Once that has been topped, I'll start looking to upgrade again.

I'm curious about Panasonics plasmas, though, as they apparently solved an age old phosphor trailing problem with plasma technology in order to implement 3D.  Unfortunately, I'm sure the black reproduction will still be inferior.  :\

Checked out a couple of the most recent LCDs and, yep, still not a fan of the technology.

As for KZ3, I'm interested, but cautious.  I enjoyed the original game, but it didn't exactly blow me away (outside of its tremendously impressive visuals).  Here's hoping that they do something more interesting this time around.

just a heads up, but the Kuro team were absorbed into Panasonic and are working on thier next gen of TVs.

I was talked out of dropping cash on a top end Kuro in favour of the 52 inch Panasonic which is a damned good TV but ... yeah... it's not a Kuro.

And 3DTV? Not interested until the non glasses tech catches up. Everyone sitting around the TV with a pair of glasses on just isn't going to work.

Also - it might be ghetto, but i wonder if MS will just push a less 3D effect that requires no new TV? Even if it's nowhere near as good, it might one up Sony simply by being moreavailable to th emasses.

I don't think so since they supposedly had a deal with one of the manufacturers (i think its Samsung) to push their 3d tvs.

Apparently Naughty Dog is not involved

Yeah, I've been following them since the went to Panasonic.  We have not yet seen the fruits of their labor and I'm still concerned about the voltage issue with Panasonics which increase black level as the TV ages (by design).  They've yet to acknowledge this as a problem despite measurements proving that it most certainly is an issue.

The best hope would be a new panel from the Kuro team combined with the faster phosphor technology developed for 3D.  Would be pretty amazing.

where does this idea that all Sony studios are all complete bumchums who share code and techniques across the board come from? Has it ever actually happened?

I remember the whole "new wipeout uses Motorstorm engine" thing and the people we knew at Psygnosis were like "huh? no it doesn't"

Yes it does where they will acknowledge each other for giving them ideas.

But i doubt its full on "co-developing an engine"

I highly doubt there is full cooperation between the different studios, but I can believe that certain techniques were shared.  For instance, the motion blur technique first introduced in Killzone 2 looks very similar in both Uncharted 2 and God of War III.  Early footage of those two games was lacking this motion blur and I recall reading somewhere that there was some code sharing/idea swapping going on in regards to this effect.

well, they are putting 3D in the game, so maybe they had to cut some areas to make that work.  Generally when you try to do 3D on PC or PS3, you lose something to maintain good performance.  I think Wipeout HD drops the resolution when playing in 3D.

I'm confused about how they're handling it.  If they want the game to play 'normal' in 3D, then playing it in 2D should mean they would have a lot more power that isn't being used.  Maybe they make the game 60 fps if you're not playing it in 3D.  I dunno.  3D gaming is weird.

Wipeout becomes 720p 30 fps game.

Of course, heavy compromises have to be met...think split screen-mode
But this is not 3D mode...it would be pointless to show it anyway...just normal stuff

3D mode has to be 30 fps...but they have to do 30 fps for each eye...its not like making a full 60 fps game because some things don't have to be done twice though

I wonder how they'll handle looking down the sights.  You have to close one eye when looking down a sniper scope or an iron sight so that should take away depth perception.  They could use it as a way of balancing power weapons like the sniper or rocket launcher.

I just skimmed through the thread to find the origins of those gifs (which turned out to be a blurry video in the background of an interview), not really get into it.  I just noticed people seeming upset at it looking more like Call of Duty or something like that.

I don't understand the new melee.  If I understand it correctly, hitting the button once acts similar to KZ2 where you push enemies back, but pressing it twice goes into a kill animation? like in that gif, the first press is a kick, the second is the knife?

That's because they are a group of fanboys or idiots. These are the same people who were adament that the original game never had any input lag. (or any problems or flaws what so ever) They will complain about anything that deviates from the flawed aspects of the original game because that's what crazy people do.

Its a good game. I wouldn't call it a great game but everybody is entitled to their opinion. Outside of the way it looks, I don't really see anything special about it myself.

Most of the negative feelings that seem to arise are more directed at the fanbase which pretty much shit all over and trolled any other competing game to try to raise the profile of Killzone 2.

It was real hot at times. Some really heavy battle moments thanks to the awesome A.I., brutal weapons and the sheer visual spectacle, but it was stuck in the same gear for pretty much the whole game so it was pretty numbing. A lot of people had problems with the controls, so hey. If they look towards KZ1 for level design, variety and pacing and make the aiming easier (or more gun-on-a-stick), it should be a lot more popular. I'd like them to adjust the cover system a bit.

I thought the controls were excellent, but then again I think the Killzone 2 demo was the first console FPS I played since Halo 2.

Killzone 1 is alright, albeit kind of boring. The story isn't interesting but the setting and mood is really good.

This is what i saw as well. Mainly due to the seemingly low recoil, low bobbing of the gun while moving and the new sprinting speed (although some claim that  the GIF was sped up.

as for the melee you supposedly hit the button, then it will prompt another button to do a finisher.

Supposedly the finishers are different depending on the environment, so you could slam his head in a crate if it was there and whatever.
