included in the article (while im reading)
- Will show the Helghast have humanity left in them.
- Will have the feeling that "of being in a place far away from home, outnumbered by people who want to kill you."
- Will be like Inglorious Basterds.
- All of the characters in the screenshots are flying in.. jetpacks?!
- Will include arctic levels.
- One mission in the game involves rescuing ISA Captain Narville.
- Game is playable in 3D!
- Have to wear 3D glasses, apparently the 3D effects are "crazy."
- Combat is "unchanged from predecessor."
- Or is it? Hand to hand combat involves you "Unloading a string of different (and often brutal) attacks on stunned enemies."
- The scale is supposed to be "bigger this time."
- The Jetpacks are "surprisingly lightweight and agile, Killzone 3's jetpack is easier to maneuver compared to the sluggish incarnations of the gadget found in other games."
- New weapon called the Wasp, basically shoots a "flurry of rockets" at an enemy.
- Will show off the Helgjast culture.
- There is actually a Helghast language, which will be explored in the game.
- Will have "diverse locales."
- Have to sit in the center of the 3D tv for the 3D effects to work.
- 3D in this game is called a "Game Changer."
- Going to have "Intense Action"
Jetpacks double as a weapon, which basically means a machine gun mounted right on top of it.
- If you shoot Helghast with jetpacks, they'll "explode like roman candles"
- To control the jetpack, you "have to activate bursts of speed in midair, propelling yourself across further distances."
- The Jetpack resembles something you'd do in platformers such as Super Mario Bros. Or Uncharted
- In one mission, you have to use the jetpack by "launching yourself from glacier to glacier"
- You'll see "a lot of" snow levels.
- Everything is more spread out in this game.
- The game looks very complete.
"The Jetpacks are "surprisingly lightweight and agile, Killzone 3's jetpack is easier to maneuver compared to the sluggish incarnations of the gadget found in other games."
return of the moving through molasses defense force!

2 days ago I was able to play Killzone 3 behind closed doors in Amsterdam and have to say that it looks crazy.
The graphics are still based on the same engine as its predecessor, but was immensely improved.
While the playable areas of the second part of the series were pretty linear, we can assume that there will be wider areas like those of Battlefield BC 2.
What impressed me the most in the 30 minutes were the snow effects. It just looks fantastic how the snow lays down on the weapon and melts when shooting – and all that in 3D!
To be honest, I was a bit sceptical but KZ3 looks phenomenal in 3D, the explosions, the rain and the snow seem to be so real, that hollywood blockbusters like Avatar pale in comparison.
According to Guerilla each exemplar will be shipped with 2 killzone-styled 3D glasses.
I can’t say anything about the controls, because Sony didn’t show anything about them, but KZ3 is targeted to be played with a generic controller or the Arc.
P.s. You should all mark your calendars for March 13th
The graphics look the same.
Then Killzone 3 is the best looking console game.

Oh but wait! You have a PC that allows you to play the most technically advanced games! You are sooooooo fucking special.
Since you think KZ2s graphics were overrated; name me one console game that looked better than KZ2.
Just one.

My only real curiosity about Killzone 3 is whether Sony fanboys will be as annoying and embarrassing as they were about Killzone 2. Based on this thread. I would guess yes.

You know, I'm up for an awesome Killzone game and I'm willing to give the third one a shot. There are a couple of problems though:
- First game was complete and utter shit
- Second game had horrible controls and felt very slow
Yeah, not really hyped for this one but Naughty Dog involvement gives me hope. Those guys know how to make a fun game with solid controls.

At this point I will drop it though simply because unlike you I generally want threads to be about game discussion rather than fanboy shit. Perhaps you can remember what that was before you became what you are.
Yeah, it looks great. You know what looks better though? Uncharted 2.

I think graphically Killzone 2 was and still is an amazing game. I thought as an actual game though it wasn't quite so amazing. Good but not great.
Especially the controls and the input lag.

Yeah, reviewers really dropped the ball on this one. It's like they all believed that Killzone 2 was AAA after the devs fed them a bunch of bs about how technologically impressive it was.
That pretty much explains why Sony is coming out with another sequel for such a middling franchise. People are just fucking stupid in general; if you tell them something long and hard enough, they will believe it.
It worked for Iron Man so why not expect that it'll work for Killzone?
I love how much hype Killzone 2 received before the game launched when Guerilla Game's game portfolio at the time consisted of mostly shitty games and completely shitty games when they were known as Lost Boys. I guess Liberation was pretty decent but that was neither a FPS or on a console.
It's crazy how much hype (insert Sony title) got... 10,000 post threads at GAF with sfags circle-jerking each other off 24/7 for months on end. I'm shocked to find out the game turned out to be nothing more than an average (insert type of game), stunned! Disgusting sfags..
Yeah, it looks great. You know what looks better though? Uncharted 2.
I disagree.
Uncharted 2 wins in the texture, color saturation, and shadows department. Everything else goes to Killzone 2.
The effects in Killzone 2 are top notch (even if they use sub HD buffer resolutions) but I prefer the superior art direction, texturing, shadows, lighting, and environment design in Uncharted 2. Plus the overused motion blur reduces the visual fidelity IMO.
(explosions look like utter shit)
By lighting, do you mean lens-flare and effects like that?
Uncharted had much more a much more vibrant and colorful style. Hell there's no way KZ2 had any HDR.
What was so good about BC2's lighting?
I'm not sure what specifically you're talking about with regards to KZ2's lighting.
He doesn't know because he's talking out of his ass.
Lighting goes to Killzone 2. You're crazy if you think Uncharted 2 had more impressive lighting.
I think Naughty Dog had a more impressive lighting engine with their pre-pass system. They used deferred rendering in addition to forward rendering which is a step above what Killzone 2 was capable of.
:rofl
GUESS WHAT, a lot of games have those systems in place!
Naughty Dog produced a very elegant lighting system that I believe is a step beyond Killzone 2's simple and post processor reliant system.

3D is an added feature for people who have 3D televisions (coming soon from Sony!), not the only way to play the game. Even without 3D this is a sequel to one of the best looking games on consoles, arguably better than anything on 360, a game that has a Metacritic score is in the 90's and was GAF's FPS of the year in 2009.

Oh, and there's one more thing that we've declined to mention so far. Killzone 3 will be one of the first Sony titles to support 3D out of the box, and thanks to a prototype TV using active shutter glasses set up at the event we can report that it looks stupendous – bullets zip out of the screen while particles such as snow and sparks are tangible elements of the game world. It feels like much more than a gimmick as well: peripheral details such as raging seas thrashing the icebergs combine with the way the player's gun seems to hang out of the screen (and indeed people were living up to the age-old clich? and reaching out to touch what wasn't there during the presentations) to create a level of immersion that's truly beyond anything we've seen to date.
With levels ten times bigger than in Killzone 2, this is Helghan like you’ve never seen it before. You’ll face brutal combat in a host of environments that threaten to bury you on the deadly planet. Killzone 3 will see you trudge through toxic nuclear wastelands, get lost in a lethal alien jungle, fight in bitter arctic conditions and take the battle into space as you fight against Helghast domination – with every location featuring a distinct gameplay style for you to master.

Ahh, that's what we were missing, a slight respite from the gray. The story sounds like it has a chance of being interesting this time around too as Helghan is in a state of civil war since you killed Visari.
QuoteNot interested in 3DTV until the sets can match the performance of the final generation Pioneer Kuro. Once that has been topped, I'll start looking to upgrade again.
I'm curious about Panasonics plasmas, though, as they apparently solved an age old phosphor trailing problem with plasma technology in order to implement 3D. Unfortunately, I'm sure the black reproduction will still be inferior. :\
just a heads up, but the Kuro team were absorbed into Panasonic and are working on thier next gen of TVs.
I was talked out of dropping cash on a top end Kuro in favour of the 52 inch Panasonic which is a damned good TV but ... yeah... it's not a Kuro.
And 3DTV? Not interested until the non glasses tech catches up. Everyone sitting around the TV with a pair of glasses on just isn't going to work.
Also - it might be ghetto, but i wonder if MS will just push a less 3D effect that requires no new TV? Even if it's nowhere near as good, it might one up Sony simply by being moreavailable to th emasses.
You know, I'm up for an awesome Killzone game and I'm willing to give the third one a shot. There are a couple of problems though:

Yeah, not really hyped for this one but Naughty Dog involvement gives me hope. Those guys know how to make a fun game with solid controls.
That said, Hulst noted that, contrary to popular belief, Guerrilla Games is not collaborating on engine technology with Uncharted 2 developer Naughty Dog.
just a heads up, but the Kuro team were absorbed into Panasonic and are working on thier next gen of TVs.Yeah, I've been following them since the went to Panasonic. We have not yet seen the fruits of their labor and I'm still concerned about the voltage issue with Panasonics which increase black level as the TV ages (by design). They've yet to acknowledge this as a problem despite measurements proving that it most certainly is an issue.

where does this idea that all Sony studios are all complete bumchums who share code and techniques across the board come from? Has it ever actually happened?
I remember the whole "new wipeout uses Motorstorm engine" thing and the people we knew at Psygnosis were like "huh? no it doesn't"
where does this idea that all Sony studios are all complete bumchums who share code and techniques across the board come from? Has it ever actually happened?I highly doubt there is full cooperation between the different studios, but I can believe that certain techniques were shared. For instance, the motion blur technique first introduced in Killzone 2 looks very similar in both Uncharted 2 and God of War III. Early footage of those two games was lacking this motion blur and I recall reading somewhere that there was some code sharing/idea swapping going on in regards to this effect.

Next gen can't come soon enough. It looks like PS2 game under emulation.Seriously?
well, they are putting 3D in the game, so maybe they had to cut some areas to make that work. Generally when you try to do 3D on PC or PS3, you lose something to maintain good performance. I think Wipeout HD drops the resolution when playing in 3D.
I'm confused about how they're handling it. If they want the game to play 'normal' in 3D, then playing it in 2D should mean they would have a lot more power that isn't being used. Maybe they make the game 60 fps if you're not playing it in 3D. I dunno. 3D gaming is weird.

Wipeout becomes 720p 30 fps game.
Of course, heavy compromises have to be met...think split screen-mode
But this is not 3D mode...it would be pointless to show it anyway...just normal stuff
3D mode has to be 30 fps...but they have to do 30 fps for each eye...its not like making a full 60 fps game because some things don't have to be done twice though

actually, I browsed the gaf thread the other day and people seemed to be complaining about those kinds of changes. Things like your gun not bobbing as much, a wider FOV, and seeing it from the characters eyes rather than abdomen.

Well, you'd have to be a fucking distinguished mentally-challenged fellow to rip on the sequel to KZ2 based on a screenshot. Not saying that it's not about time for some new hardware since KZ2 did show a lot of compromises, but come the fuck on.
Besides, will you even get a new system, or are you just going to spend the generation griping about games you'll never play anyway?
It looks bad for a PS3 game, bad for a 360 game, bad for a PC game. It looks like a quick UbiSoft title. BAD.
Was Killzone 2 really that bad? I played the demo and I liked it better than any other FPS out this gen.

yeah, but would they drop visuals for 3D mode if they're listing it as a big feature and using it when demoing it for the press? but you're right about split screen. I played MW2 4-playre split screen and there is a pretty big drop in performance.
also, does 3D have to be 30 fps? Isn't the point of the true 120hz TV requirement so it would be 60 for each eye?
I just skimmed through the thread to find the origins of those gifs (which turned out to be a blurry video in the background of an interview), not really get into it. I just noticed people seeming upset at it looking more like Call of Duty or something like that.
I don't understand the new melee. If I understand it correctly, hitting the button once acts similar to KZ2 where you push enemies back, but pressing it twice goes into a kill animation? like in that gif, the first press is a kick, the second is the knife?
It was just that bad.
