On the other hand, the new Stars single is great.

I'm the biggest Stars fanboy in the world, but I don't really care for We Don't Want Your Body.

Neon Bible hate :rofl

The Suburbs is a great track.  Haven't listened to the other yet.

Neon Bible > Funeral

I haven't bothered with The Suburbs tracks.  Probably just going to hold off until I can hear them in context.

My biggest problem with Neon Bible was with its lyrics, because overtly political messages are always corny.  I did prefer the retooled No Cars Go over the original though.

The Suburbs is great. Month of May is enjoyable too but not as good as I might expect from AF.

Funeral was amazing, and I love Neon Bible too although yeah, I tend to skip more tracks on that one now.

I think he needs to level up his purple prose skills before he can land a job at Pitchfork

Wait you like Arcade Fire but you find Radiohead love baffling?

What the fuck. Arcade Fire is awful music for smug white people. Try listening to a Talking Heads record once in a while.

I don't think it gets much whiter than Thom Yorke

Context, Corny, context.  I love one Arcade Fire album.  Pitchfork has jerked it to every single Radiohead record, even Hail to the Thief, which nobody liked. When Mojovonio said "do no wrong," that is what I'm talking about.

I liked Hail to the Thief.

Also I cut my teeth on my dad's Talking Head records.

Then why are you cool with third-rate Talking Heads ripoffs?

I don't think it gets much whiter than Thom Yorke

Ill talk about this more when I get home *(I'm on my phone) but the Neon Bible hate is actually more confusing than its love if you ask me.  Funeral, while fantastic, doesn't resonate with me as much as Neon Bible did when it came out. And I'm baffled, I LOVE Intervention.  I really don't think there's such a huge gap in between the two albums as you guys think.

White as FUCK

Anyway, if we're gonna turn this into a pissing contest, Radiohead is great, but Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief are both pretty weak. And Funeral > Neon Bible, but I don't loathe Neon Bible or anything

how can you even draw a line in the sand between Arcade Fire and Radiohead?  They're both extremely pretentious white bands aimed toward  and admired by the same set of white pretentious music listeners.

Arcade Fire sucks.

Radiohead is awesome.

Thom Yorke is, in the words of Minor Threat, guilty of being white

Thom Yorke worked with Burial (ALSO white) and Flying Lotus (NOT white)

Arcade Fire worked with David Byrne

and I hope he got paid very well

Funeral is amazing start to finish; it's a consistent album that feels like an album should feel. Neon Bible has some great tracks, but it also has some tracks I simply don't care for. The title track is kinda eh, it's alright but I've only listened to it a few times. I like the second part of Black Wave/Bad Vibrations; the first part, with the chick singing, is just grating. Then there are amazing songs like Windowsill, Antichrist Television Blues, Keep The Car Running, and My Body is a Cage.

with that said, I've gotta cleanse the whiteness of this post

Agreed 100%. Her part is horrible, while the lead singer's is great imo and fits well with the overall tone/sound of the album.

Not ragging on the chick, I just don't like that contribution; really like Haiti and especially In The Backseat from Funeral

Without her half, Win Butler's half wouldn't work nearly as well as it does.  That track is all in the transition.

Definitely a grower. Initially I was disappointed. Perhaps all bands/artists who release a nigh classic debut album are forever cursed with high expectations/future disappointments, and Arcade Fire falls directly in that category. The Suburbs is not better than Funeral, but it's a pretty consistent album considering it's length and I'd put it ahead of Neon Bible.

This is probably where I'd put it, although I really need to go back and listen to Funeral again for a better comparison. I still really like the album

Bumped because the album is out now.

Closest place they are playing to me is St. Louis.  I hate when bands like this get big. They just don't get big enough to play anywhere near me. Fuck, not even Cincinnati? :(

Suburbs is infinitely better than Neon Bible

it's not Funeral but it's definitely good enough to make me think Arcade Fire might have a career, as opposed to an album

That's a more reasonable position. It's an inconsistent album but still features some great songs.
