Title: Best game decision, or best game decision
Post by: Bebpo on June 04, 2010, 03:26:47 PM
L5 announced that to play White Knight Chronicles 2 you are required to have a WKC1 clear save.
If you don't the game starts at the beginning of WKC1 which is also on the disc.  There is no way to skip WKC1 and play WKC2.

They're making a sequel?  I thought WKC bombed big time.

This is actually great. I can just wait for WKC2 to come out and buy that when it bombs.

I don't see the problem.  Truly dedicated fans of the game should have the right to play the sequel immediately, while people who haven't played it really need to get caught up on the story.  Level 5 is just making sure people are enjoying their game for the right reasons.

...is what I would post in the gaf thread on the same subject

So, two games for the price of one?

Pretty nice concept. Too bad you'll be getting two shitty games.

This is basically the way all games should work. Hats off.

Doesn't matter, this will never come to the US.

Did the first one bomb that hard?  Sony 1st party stuff usually comes over.  Even Siren PS3 came over!

That's what I was assuming after reading this. You can't pull shit like that over here.

I really do believe Japanese developers think they're making progress.

360,000 in Japan, probably less than that everywhere else.

I hope the sequel finds it's way here, I actually liked the first WKC.  :(

I think this is a cool idea. I never played the first WKC, but I've always been a little interested. Now I know to just wait for the sequel and I can play both only buying one game :lol

couldn't you just cheat the system by downloading a clear save online?

it is cool that both games are on the one blu-ray.  requiring you to play the first is pretty is lame.  couldn't they have just done a Shenmue 2 Xbox thing where they made WKC: The Movie? or is there something relevant to carrying your character over.

The first game dropped like a ROCK at retail. Why wait? You can buy it @ Gamefly for ~$18 (less if you have a coupon)

It took them almost 3 years to bring the first over. At Sony's rate you wont get the sequel until 2012

It took just over 13 months.

3 years? Yeah that's about right. Enjoy your wait?

So you've played them both already.  Wow... that's pretty awesome!  I'm jealous!  ;)

I'm not so sure about that.  Level-5 is looking to open an American studio, I have a feeling we will see it.

I hope the sequel finds it's way here, I actually liked the first WKC.  :(
I did too.  The game is definitely dated and has it's problems, but it was fun!  Especially the online.
The customizable combo system was pretty damn cool too.
Easily put 100+ hours into WKC and would go back to it before FFXIII ... that's for sure.

I think this is a cool idea. I never played the first WKC, but I've always been a little interested. Now I know to just wait for the sequel and I can play both only buying one game :lol
That's probably the best idea if you can wait for it.  It's said that they are enhancing the original with the changes they are making for the second game.  Not to mention the story mode in the first one is pretty short.  Between 20 and 30 hours depending on how much you explore the ridiculously sized landscapes.

As I said... I liked the game, but it did have its problems.  I wrote a very detailed (and odd) review about it for my site and gave it a 3/5.  The game could definitely benefit from some improvements.

As was stated earlier... 13 months.  12/25/08 in Japan, 2/2/10 here.

The only reason the first one took so long was b/c Sony had to add a ton of shit to make the game more American friendly.
The original release had no chat whatsoever from what I understand.  Sony added voicechat, text chat, etc.  There were other improvements made as well.  Enough for them to re-release the game in Japan with the changes made to the American version.  Now Level-5 is working off of the "International" version's code base, so there won't be a reason to take as long this time around... well... hopefully.
