Good Kirby ended with the SNES. I think I enjoyed Super Star the most.

Doug's definition of E3 press conferences to the gamers is spot on.
It's all about making me shit my pants. And you can do that with a marketing edge.
-
This is what huge exclusive video game announcements in the far future brings to the table in a marketing conference.
Since OBVIOUSLY software does NOT sell for a casual system (at least most of it doesn't) a game company still needs to cater somewhat to a hardcore audience. Big game announcements build up the hype for a title with the fanbase and with the retailer. You really can't tell me GameStop doesn't see what its consumers puts on reserve and decides some of their marketing strategies for the year on this information, because they do. Every game with a midnight launch and every game the store receives in large amounts has been PREDETERMINED by FANS. HARDCORES. Only very rarely does a casual game become a sales phenomenon. Just look at the Wii's library. If it isn't Wii Sports or Wii Fit or Wii Play, it doesn't sell unless it's targeted toward a hardcore audience OR is a franchise that is considered by the hardcores to be worth purchasing. Bringing casual elements into Mario Galaxy 2 pulls from both markets, but it's the gamers that have talked it up.
Why didn't Microsoft drop "the megaton?" When it comes to this year, it's pretty obvious that they've been burned before. There are drawbacks to revealing a big title and not immediately releasing it. Alan Wake, for example. But it's worked much more often and in big ways.
Sony revealed Twisted Metal and Steam for PS3. Nintendo finally showed us the 3DS, announced most of its library, and showed off a highly anticipated new installment to one of gaming's most storied franchises. Microsoft gave us shit we already knew about. Now, which one is going to pay off the highest? I can tell you right now Nintendo has already guaranteed that Zelda will sell millions of copies, as well as continuing its handheld dominance. Sony will continue to pull more customers because at least its waggle wand will work with games targeted for the hardcore AND that can still be played with the regular controller, and by relaunching a storied franchise that has been dormant on home consoles for nine years. Microsoft might have a good christmas this year, but really, what the fuck do I have to care about next holiday season?

When did you guys record this?
-
Because Doug isn't perfect:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is a pretty frantic book. It's no surprise that they are treating the game like this. Especially since its the three kids against pretty much Voldemort's Magic Nazi army.
-
When did you guys record this?
last night, of course we missed the konami insanity :(
maybe next show

is there any reason for a sony admirer like me to listen
-
downloading now so I don't know if it has been covered, but by the next podcast I expect an answer. What will Prole buy first: Dead or Alive on the 3DS or Nintencats and dogs?

Man, I got boned pretty hard in the gaf thread by that Nintendo dude for saying "you know" all the time :lol
Thing is, I almost never say it in real life (if you've ever played with me online you will notice the lack of "youknows."). I am aware of it, and have mentioned it to Doug and Robert before during breaks and pre-recording. Don't know where I picked it up, but the more I become aware of it the more I am unable to stop it. I'm stuck in one of those loops not unlike trying to get a song out of your mind. Oh well, expect 2x more U-KNOW next show, now that it's even more present in my thoughts.
-
i say it a lot as well. oh well. you know the dude's a pillock, y'know.
-
More than Prole says "at the end of the day"? We should do a count.
-
duder likes it, y'know, up the butt. real talk.

"At the end of the day" has become part of my daily vocab, no thanks to the Borecast :lol
-
It is what it is. ;)
Seriously though, I'm more appalled by that complainer's lack of manners than the Borecasters' predispositions for using cliches.

at the end of, you know, the day

Good podcast so far :D
A few points on the Microsoft discussion:
1. The guy who said ESPN on 360 is great also said his ESPN3 thing wasn't working right. Apparently ESPN on 360 is ESPN3, so I assume if ESPN3 isn't working then it won't work on your Xbox as well.
2. They didn't show Bulletstorm nor Medal of Honor at the Microsoft conference. You must have been watching parts of EA's conference.
3. I personally think the Kinectimals demo was one of the worst demos shown. The part where the girl was like "OoOh Skittles that tickles!!!!" exposed a significant problem with immersion.
4. There were not a lot of announcements for next year because Microsoft has the worst first-party stable out of the 3. So it's not like they chose not to announce stuff for next year, they simply do not have the games to announce.
Microsoft's 'big' E3 announcement next year will be yet another Halo and another Forza game. That's how poor their first-party lineup is.
Furthermore, 3rd parties are not giving Microsoft exclusive games because it's not 2007 anymore. The worldwide install-base difference is less than 5 million consoles, if you're EA or ActiVision, handing Microsoft an exclusive game is equivalent to leaving money on the table. Hence the reason why Microsoft is aggressively pursuing exclusive DLC, it's all they can get at this point.
In fact, given the middling sales performance of both Mass Effect and Splinter Cell on 360, I'm willing to bet these are the next 'console exclusives' that Microsoft loses.
5. Halo: Reach looks good because it's Bungie's first Halo in HD. And to be honest, it looks nowhere near as impressive as the other FPS games shown at E3.
-
Also, Sly Cooper 3 was in 3D, so the Sly Collection isn't the first 3D outing for the franchise...
-
That samusx dude sucks, chugging haterade by the gallon. The y'knows, at the end of the days, and the laugh that sounds like a wheeze at the end, who cares about that shit? Nintendo fanboys can't really be considered people so, y'know at the end of the day, fuck the haters.
