I'm not 100% sure what they do, but I think it lets you send letters to other people's letter wall thing on their wii.  Then you need another code when you want to play games with them.  Nintendo is still catching up with the Dreamcast with this whole internet thing.

My sister's wii won't even connect to the internet, I would look up the error code to see how to fix it but lol wii.

Yeah, the LAN adaptor helps for TvC.

The thing is, playing online still sucks because others will have shitty connections.  The best way I found to play was to go onto XBLA and use that as a way to contact people/chat in-game while playing on the Wii. 

I'd like to play the game more, but it's just so much easier to play on PS3/360.

I have one. I've yet to play a TvC match online that was even remotely acceptable in terms of lag.
