My guts says "stay far away", but the trailers for it actually look kind of promising. Have I been duped once again by the Hollywood hype machine?  :-\

Good point about Travolta, but that's the exception not the rule I'm afraid.

I think I just hate Brody since Splice.  Fuck that movie was garbage.

The new Predator: SE Blu-Ray is $15 at Best Buy and comes with a free Predators movie ticket. Sounds like a win-win situation, because if Predators sucks, you can rush home and cleanse your pallet with Predator.

Same here, I will see it if it gets decent reviews though from non internet critics though. I don't have much optimism for Ridley Scott's Alien prequel either. Ridley Scott isn't Ridley Scott anymore. Kingdom of Heaven aside all he does anymore are barely passable studio movies.

My friend at Fox invited me to the free showing at the studio theater but I'm still deciding if I should go.  I'm just leery of Predator films after the AVP debacles.

Although Requiem gets props for chest bursting a KID, it's worse than Batman & Robin

Predator 2 is the direct-to-video sequel that accidentally got released in theaters and is responsible for AVP, so it has a lot going against it, but it has pre-crazy Danny Glover fighting the Predator and always-crazy Gary Busy. So it kinda balances out.

Well, nobody from those moves is involved in this. This is done all by Troublemaker Studios. Robert Rodriguez's guys. Not to say that means it's any good though. I am still leery despite the decent reviews.

Still it would have been cool to have Danny Glover come back. Earlier drafts had Fishburnes' character as Glover's cop character from Predator 2.

Predator 2 is vastly underrated. It still holds up well. The subway scene, rooftop chase, and freezer battle are all awesome. It's definitely not as good as the original but miles ahead of AVP and AVP: R.

I'll be the sole person to defend AVP: R, though. I can appreciate what they were trying to accomplish. The story was a throwback to the 1950s sci fi films. Space crashes near small town, small town yokels investigate, find crazy creature that begins to kill them, and so forth. The problem is we don't want an old throwback to the 1950s films. Aliens and Predator deserve something epic. They've got 6 movies between them. We've had decades leading up to their battle. That was not what they deserved but it was still a decent movie and very much watchable.

The Predator and Alien designs were leagues better than AVP. The Predalien's design was forgettable.

Nah the coolest Arnold cameo would end with the survivors being rescued. Aboard a space ship they're told they want them for a team that's going to the Predator homeworld to kick some ass. Their leader is none other than Dutch himself.

Just saw Predators.  Thought it wasn't bad, but nothing "OMG AWESOME" either.  It was a decent summer flick that felt a bit like a throwback to the older action/suspense movies of the late 80's/early 90's, which I can definitely appreciate, but the whole thing was just "been there, done that" all over the place.  Extremely predictable (except for two things*) and filled with cliches.  Couldn't help my roll my eyes at the Yakuza guy's big part. 

Also the movie's plot (this is not a spoiler) is that a bunch of hardened asshole-killer/soldier types are all being put on the planet to be hunted by the Predators.  The problem with this is that it's hard to sympathize with any of them.  THEY'RE ALL ASSHOLES WHO KILL PEOPLE.   :lol

-I forgot that Laurence Fishburne was in the movie, so his appearance was a surprise to me.  He's also become Laurence Fatburne.  For a character who's supposed to have survived on the Predator's hunting planet for some years, he sure as hell was out of shape.  I also don't understand how he was supposed to have survived for so long by hiding in what would be an OBVIOUS location to check (a giant drilling machine/complex)

-The doctor guy turning out to be a twisted psycho-killer was pretty predictable, but I didn't expect the crazy deathrow-inmate guy to sacrifice himself for everyone like he did.  And yet once again, since he was firmly established as an ASSHOLE, nobody cared.

I didn't see most of Predator 2 (guess I should watch it now) and didn't bother with AvP1 and 2 since I heard such awful things about them, but this movie in no way touches the original.  It's not a remake, but could be considered a reboot of sorts.  A lot of it was just Predator 1 redux and not done as well.  None of the action scenes were anything special in comparison.

The ending was straight-up Predator 1.  Adrien Brody slaps on the mud (as explained to him by the one female character, who happens to be from the country AHNULD was in during Predator, so she knows the story of how he beat it) and smacks the last Predator around.  The end.

Lastly, the special effects were okay, but anything bloody (I'll just put it that way as to not spoil anything!) didn't look too hot.  People started laughing after one particular type of death scene happened multiple times...it just looked too fake.

When we were walking out of the theater, I heard these teenagers behind me saying "it wasn't that great...the graphics could have been better.  Yeah man, AvP was so much better.  Totally...that movie was AWESOME!"

Enough people I know are saying this is pretty decent, I think I'll check this out tomorrow.


Even if this is decent it probably won't hold a candle to Rodriguez's actual next movie he is directing himself that is out in a few months with Robert DeNiro, Lindsay Lohan, Steven Segal, and Don Johnson.  8)

They showed the Machete trailer right before the movie started...

...and since Danny Trejo is in Predators, people were getting confused.   :lol
