Do what now?
-
What!
-
Who?
-
SCOTT PILGRIM!
-
What Pilgrim?
-
Plymouth Rock?
-
Scott Who?
-
Pilgrim! The guy who can play the main theme from Final Fantasy IV with his guitar!
-
Never heard of it
-
I actually find Scott Pilgrim hard to read because Scott is so like my younger brother (who is of course a huge fan). It just makes me recall every single reason I've ever had for wanting to slap the weeaboo out of him.
-
what's this anigay shit
-
Himuro wants to be a white guy who wants to be a Japanese guy, now sports
-
What is this about sports? I want to talk about SCOTT PILGRIM.
-
Looks embarassing. Isnt it bad enough you watch anime and play JRPGs? I feel ashamed enough to play JRPG alone...
-
It's by a CANADIAN. I know, I know, Canada and all but it's entertaining!
Anyways, Brian's art has really improved!
-
"Do you want to have sex? I think we should have sex. Casual sex."
YES
-
If I were in college when this first came out, I'm sure I'd be totally into it. But since I wasn't, I really don't care.
It's by a CANADIAN. I know, I know, Canada and all but it's entertaining!
There's lots of great stuff from Canada. Music, particularly.
-
what is it?
-
If I were in college when this first came out, I'm sure I'd be totally into it. But since I wasn't, I really don't care.
Now you are a man, who installs his own goddamn toilets and destroys his own goddamn stairs with a big hammer. *nods furious approval*
Let us watch the Expendables together, fellow man.

Phht.
Man shman.
-
So does he win? Why bother reading if I know that
-
I'm reading the summaries at Wiki...
Save points, boss battles, Smashing Pumpkins references, a recreation of Sonic the Hedgehog, Legend of Zelda dreams and beating you over the head about how being a vegan is clearly superior...
What the fuck is this shit?
-
I dunno. This volume so far is okay. Nothing great.
-
I'm reading the summaries at Wiki...

What the fuck is this shit?
:lol
It's nerd humor slash romance comedy
It idolizes nerd-dom while at the same time criticizing the lifestyle.
It sounds fucking stupid, but then you pick up the first volume, read it in one sitting and the rest is history. I can't explain why I like it.
-
everything there is to know about nerds I already learnt from internet forums
-
ugh so far this volume is pretty horrible. I expected the romance stuff to take over the final volume, but not this much.
-

I don't think you'd make it through a week of my brother's Facebook updates with your sanity intact, dude. These people are out there.
-
This has gone past funny cheesy nerd jokes into just plain cheese territory.
-
I heard how it ends. Wanna know? I can save you some time.
-
PATEL
I KNOW YOU'RE LURKING AND READING THIS TOPIC
COME DEFEND VOL 6
IT SUCKS
-
Finished. UGH. I'm glad I dled so now I can sell the volume right when I get it.
-
I sense an epic thread title edit coming.
-
beating you over the head about how being a vegan is clearly superior...
You never studied.
-
like mr.gundam i readed a summary a while ago
i refuse to read anything that involves "boyfriends" in the plotline

It's funny, people are like, FF13 is so uguu and embarassing, then they go and post that they like Scott Pilgrim. What's wrong with people?
-
I think it's hilarious at how hyped Himu was on the first post, then got universally ridiculed by everyone on the 'Bore and had to back down from his own personal opinion.
smh himu, you know you loved Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour
-
Scott Pilgrim love is the only thing I hold against Synthesizer Patel.
-
Ban mojo.
-

Scott Pilgrim isn't uguu at all. Well it wasn't until this volume.
-
I think it's hilarious at how hyped Himu was on the first post, then got universally ridiculed by everyone on the 'Bore and had to back down from his own personal opinion.
smh himu, you know you loved Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour
Oh shut the fuck up with your conspiracies. The volume sucked, the ending sucked, the best thing about it was the delicious art. I said the same shit at that other place.
-
Synthesizer Patel, one of the biggest Scott Pilgrim apologists on the planet, says this volume sucks and he will not be defending Himumu.
-
well now i'm worried
-
He did say he has more confidence in the film than ever before, simply because he heard the ending is completely different.
-
If I were in college when this first came out, I'm sure I'd be totally into it. But since I wasn't, I really don't care.
It's by a CANADIAN. I know, I know, Canada and all but it's entertaining!

so true.
-

i was not disappointed by the movie at all.
-
I'm intrigued to see the movie mainly because of Edgar Wright, and Broken Social Scene and Metric's musical involvement.
That and my wife actually wants to see it.
-
He did say he has more confidence in the film than ever before, simply because he heard the ending is completely different.
I agree with him. I'm more pumped for the movie after this crappy volume.
-
Synthesizer Patel, one of the biggest Scott Pilgrim apologists on the planet, says this volume sucks and he will not be defending Himumu.
He's not going to defend me? Defend me from what? I think it sucks, he thinks it sucks, none of the other Scott Pilgrim fans have read it yet, and this thread is full of anti-Scott Pilgrim trolling and since *I* think it sucks I don't really care about the trolling.
-
Wow, what a rapid turnaround. You went from being all about this volume to hating it pretty quickly. Guess you can't take the heat, eh?
-
I wasn't all about the volume. I hadn't even read it yet!
-
My question was more along the lines of how can you live with yourself? Do you really want to be "that guy"
-
Uh huh. Sounds like once people weren't hopping on your bandwagon, you threw it underneath the bus. Glad to know your opinions are based on other people's reactions.
-
I don't know what you're talking about! :lol I've defended Scott Pilgrim as being awesome on this board multiple times! That doesn't stop this volume from sucking!
-
Man, this is just sad, Himuro. You should stop while you're ahead.
-
I agree! I think it's time to troll the gaf iteration of this thread which is full of nothing but fan wank.
It sucked! How can anyone be satisfied with this ending? :lol
-
Sounds like you were, but changed your tune when you couldn't face public scrutiny.
-
Lies and deceit!
-
This is no diff from his hate for FF13. FF13 just isnt cool now, but FF8 is woamg awesome apparently. Whats the difference?
-
Here's FF13 in a nutshell:

I liked it.
How and why? I thought the first half was solid. The whole CASUAL SEX thing was cute and funny. And then...well...
-
Himuro wants you to tell everyone why it was good so he can like it again, because he is something of a pussy.
-

None of us ever plan on reading it. Go ahead and spoil away.

Wrath, what'd you like about it? I thought the whole second half was random and silly, though it had its moments. I like a few quotes.
This is the best part of the second half of the book:
I want to use that line.
-
Himu's already starting to post scans of the book he supposedly disliked so much.
Willco and I were right. :rofl

Willco fucking nails it.
Get out of the thread so we can discuss it. It's obvious from my early posts in the thread I hadn't even started to read it yet. Why does everything have to be drama with you? Willco too!

Why would you want to discuss something you say sucks and is awful? Better to just wipe your ass with it and go play some more FFXIII.

The problem with the second half is that everything is deus ex machina mixed with cheesy writing. Past volumes aren't Watchmen-quality, but they have a certain charm. They're cheesy, but they're fun cheesy, kinda like a crappy c-budget horror movie. It knows its faults, and it didn't take itself seriously. Like fighting a vegan guy who has super vegan powers. It was quirky without being cringe-worthy.
But in this volume, the author finally takes various aspects that didn't make the past volumes great (the crappy romance sub-plot, for one) and makes it the main focus. I expected this, and expressed my wariness on countless occasions but my predictions came true. It wasn't just nerd humor, it was now nerd humor with a romance story that was flat out distinguished mentally-challenged.
But I think the biggest problem I have with the book, and the ending in general, is the development of the main character. He starts out as a depressed guy whose heart is broken, and it's funny because he's distinguished mentally-challenged and just wants casual sex, but eventually he just turns back into the same person he was before. Scott Pilgrim infuses nerd humor so much I think, because it's a story about growing up. It's about this 24 year old loser whose life is going nowhere, the romance sub-plot never really was the reason I remotely liked the story. In the end, Scott is still the same. He hasn't really "grown up" despite the fact that everyone around him has, and the ending lacks any sense of fulfillment. He got the girl, but who cares? He's still working in a burger joint and playing in a shitty band.
-
How and why? I thought the first half was solid. The whole CASUAL SEX thing was cute and funny. And then...well...
I didn't like it as much as the other volumes, but that's because I read those back to back. And it was kind of predictable once you've gone through 50 pages but it still was executed well, anyone expecting a grand ending with amazing fan service were never going to get it anyway. Every character got closure except for those who didn't need it.
It was pretty funny all around and had some shock turns(Stills being gay), casual sex will be a term used many times in my social circle. Scott got with Ramona like we all knew was going to happen, and the writing and art was still good.
You're a team kim guy, aren't you?
I'm a Team Scott person.
I was fine with the secondary cast. Stills being gay was lol and random. Knives, I don't fucking know, did she go to college or what? It seemed like in the final pages she still had a thing for Scott which made no sense. But honestly, I really liked the development of all the secondary characters: Envy, Knives, and especially Kim. But Scott himself doesn't receive such development.
Also, Gideon sucked as a villain.
Uh huh. Sounds like once people weren't hopping on your bandwagon, you threw it underneath the bus. Glad to know your opinions are based on other people's reactions.

You suck as a villain.

Epic face to heel turn by the OP ITT :lol
Is the ending up on wikipedia?
-
Young Neil is the best thing about vol 6 btw
(http://imgur.com/GCvCD.png)
Going through the .cbz to find the good pages that are just social interactions between the characters and finding the bad pages (ANYTHING TO DO WITH SCOTT AND RAMONA) is really an eye opener.
What the FUCK was that Nega-Scott shit?
-
Epic face to heel turn by the OP ITT :lol
Is the ending up on wikipedia?
Why do people keep saying this when it's obvious I hadn't read the volume in the first post? :-\

Gideon did suck, and the only complaint that really bugs me was that this volume felt like a long ending, but its a minor one.
And Scott doesn't have to change.
Why doesn't Scott have to change? Isn't the main theme of Scott Pilgrim growing up? Scott is the least mature person in the whole story. I'm not expecting him to stop being a doofus, but at least grow past the whole HAHA I WORK IN A BURGER JOINT AND PLAY FOR A SHITTY BAND BUT I HAVE A COLLEGE DEGREE thing.

I guess it was your defending/hyping of scott pilgrim earlier in the thread + your one of the known fans on this board.
Was funny to see
-
No, it was people discrediting Scott Pilgrim, and me defending it, like usual. I hadn't read the volume yet though.
-
I looked up Scott Pilgrim on Wikipedia. wtf, Himu? This sounds like complete hipster shit.
-
Like I told Distant, it sounds distinguished mentally-challenged and in fact, I had the same reservations before I read it too. But then you pick up the first volume and end up reading it one sitting, and then you can't say shit. It's one of those things that sounds stupid on paper, but somehow it WORKS.
-
Then why place such a huge emphasis on growing up, especially in the early parts of the volume? Because in the end, Scott didn't really grow up.
-

You're black, Himu. You should be reading shit like Black Panther and Luke Cage, Power Man, not this.

Superheroes are boring.
I'd rather read indie stuff.
The only superhero comic I read is X-Factor.
-
Himuro, trying to disprove the notion that black people can't be hipsters.
-
oookay spoilers itt
time to read it before i come back
page 8, scott has a psp go
time for this book to go
-
I hope you weren't spoiled, Eric!
-
> he cares about being spoiled in a shitty book
-
I looked up Scott Pilgrim on Wikipedia. wtf, Himu? This sounds like complete hipster shit.
Me too, and let's see:
- It's Canadian :yuck
- Black & White "indie" comic :yuck
- A 23-year-old slacker living in Toronto with his sarcastic gay roommate Wallace Wells. :yuck
- He is dating a Chinese-Canadian high-schooler. :yuck
- This is just in the first paragraph about the series. :yuck
-
that's pretty much entirely the point.
-
Loved it. H8rz tarded.
-
Patel > Eric P
The long dispute settled at last.
-
Loved it. H8rz tarded.
Including Himu-chan?

It wraps in satisfactory manner that cheats none of the characters nor the story itself.

Dunno what's up w patel
-
I don't see how you can say you have superior taste when we BOTH like Scott Pilgrim!
It makes us both hipster douches!
-
Who wants to bet Himuro re-reads Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour and decides he likes it after all? :lol
-
It sucked.
Can't wait for movie.
-
But we don't backtrack when people ridicule us for it :smug
Where did I say I liked it? :smug
In the first post? :smug

Ban bet: it is now your job to find where in this thread where I said I liked it. If you cannot submit enough proof before the day is over, you take a one week ban. If you do, I take a one week ban.

The Arabian Father_Mike wins this round, Himu.

it's fine.

The problem with the second half is that everything is deus ex machina mixed with cheesy writing.
it's all cheesy writing but the charm is still there. i honestly don't know what you people were expecting.
They're cheesy, but they're fun cheesy, kinda like a crappy c-budget horror movie. It knows its faults, and it didn't take itself seriously.
re-read what happens in the ramona arcs and re-read volume 5 twice. it has been maturing the characters across the series.
But in this volume, the author finally takes various aspects that didn't make the past volumes great (the crappy romance sub-plot, for one) and makes it the main focus.
I would say the romance aspect is not a sub-plot but an actual plot. Why is Scott fighting the evil-exes?
But I think the biggest problem I have with the book, and the ending in general, is the development of the main character. He starts out as a depressed guy whose heart is broken, and it's funny because he's distinguished mentally-challenged and just wants casual sex, but eventually he just turns back into the same person he was before. He's still working in a burger joint and playing in a shitty band.
this is the point of the series. what did you expect to happen? Scott to become a rock star? get a real job? become a well adjusted human being?
edit: movie gideon is absolutely a better character than book gideon.
-
Its obvious you started hating it when people made fun of you, I have nothing to prove Himu-chan.
I hadn't read it yet! :lol People have made fun of Scott Pilgrim countless times on this forum. i don't give a shit. Whenever I like something, people know. I hadn't given an impression until a few posts when I actually started to read it. If I had read it, I would have made an impression, kinda like how I always do. But blahblah, this is more EB distinguished mentally-challenged ganging up on people. This place sucks.
-
this is the point of the series. what did you expect to happen? Scott to become a rock star? get a real job? become a well adjusted human being?
I don't know. For Scott to kinda grow up beyond the nerd shit that also brought him down to a lower level (dating a 16-17 year old at one point, the whole depression thing at the beginning of volume 6). I guess you could say getting a job at a burger joint with Stills and getting out of his depression was Scott's idea of "growing up" but I think that's a cop out.
edit: movie gideon is absolutely a better character than book gideon.
That sounds good. Book Gideon wasn't too hot to me. He was hyped a lot but he ended up being disappointing.
-
book gideon was a waste
as i was saying to patel, gideon would have been a better foil if he had been scott with his shit together, not this creepy guy we got
-
This looks gay. And not in a good way.
-
But blahblah, this is more EB distinguished mentally-challenged ganging up on people. This place sucks.
:lol
Trolling is awesome, as long as I'm not the one being trolled.
