Title: Has anyone with a 360 slim tried cracking open their old HDD enclosures?
Post by: AdmiralViscen on July 21, 2010, 08:32:03 AM
The engadget review mentions that the old 360 hard drive enclosures can be popped open and you can just slip the HDD inside right into your new console.

I have a 120GB drive now. I'm thinking of buying an Acade and doing exactly that. But there are no pictures or anything and I don't know that I've seen this info confirmed elsewhere.

There are now three ways to move your data over, assuming you don't want to download it all again: USB, the transfer cable, or by simply sticking in your old hard drive.

...

Last but not least, as we just discovered, you can simply rip open your old Xbox 360 hard drive and slot it into the case, at which point it will be immediately recognized. Needless to say, we don't recommend this route for a variety of reasons... we hear Microsoft's warranty support service doesn't take kindly to freely bouncing hard drives.

What say you?

Sounds right. It's easy, you just need t7 and t5 type allen keys to open the old 360 drives without breaking them iirc.

The hard drive for the Xbox 360 Slim no longer slots on top of the console either, but slots inside the main body instead. A hidden button on the bottom end of the Xbox 360 Slim causes a section to drop away, revealing a space for the HDD to be slotted in. The new Xbox comes with a 250GB hard disk - the same capacity as the Xbox 360 Elite bundle had - as standard.

Isn't the present 360 hdd going to just be a bare drive, without that black enclosure?
