The sound effects in Berzerk used to really freak me out.  The buzzing sound whenever you get electrocuted is way hardcore.

Also,

Cloak & Dagger - one of the most under-appreciated twin stick shooters EVER! God I spent a LOT of quarters on this one back in the day.

I'm too young to have seen these games in arcades except the times museums would do classic arcade exhibits  :-\

I remember thinking the NES version was way better than the arcade version.

I lost the final round of "The Video Game" (the shitty Starcade spin-off from 1984) because I chose Mr. Do's Castle to play in the final round - were I to be selected as a contestant - instead of Donkey Kong, the game I had been playing for weeks on my Colecovision.

I fucking hate Mr. Do.  >:(

well if we do just a general arcade thread then it becomes a thread about CPS2 and neogeo :smug

I, Robot is SUCH a dope game. First one to use polygons, too! Goddamn Atari Games were so fucking innovative.

Commando! Gunsmoke! Section Z! I owned all the terrible NES ports. I guess terrible is too strong a word, so instead I'll use merely adequate.

I haven't messed around with MAME in years, this thread has me salivating.

haha hey that's not true though :D

Once we get Viewpoint, Blazing Star, Pulstar, Miracle Adventure, Aliens Vs Pred etc out of the way there's a top of lovely JAMMA based action, not to mention a mountain of shmups (though :bow MARS MATRIX :bow2 is obviously CPS2)

:bow Viewpoint :bow2

Have owned that on Neo-Geo CD, Genesis, and Playstation...

...and every version of it rocks.  The Genesis port was so fucking good.  Used to play it on my Nomad all the time.

holy fuck what did i just walk into?  this thread is giving me bigger chubb than the porn i'm looking at right now

hell yes for mentioning venture; that shit is what got me into videogames.  i can still remember playing the colecovision port: i was just a tiny 3-yr-old, fumbling my way through the levels and being terrified of the monster that'd chase you whenever you spent too much time in a room.  i used to like watching my dad play cuz he could always get farther than i could  :-[    memories

Sweet games DCharlie, loved the PS1 version of In The Hunt when I was a kid, by the people who went on to do Metal Slug (plays similarly but more fun). Real keen to check out Edward Randy. Maybe you could post images though and if you must linking to the youtube through the image or something would make browsing soooo much better ( url=youtube.com/link  img=blah /img /url ) the amount of youtube links makes my computer freak out real bad  :( Chrome asked me three times if I wanted to kill the unresponsive page while they were loading....
