Because there is a lot you can improve in mmo's.

No one gets the time or the budget to improve them though. If you're lucky you get two years before you're forced to launch early with bugs and missing features. So you launch a shitty game and you're constantly pushing shit up a hill until your funding gets pulled because you couldn't maintain a decent subscriber base.

Plus people really don't want to play something different than WoW, they just want to play more WoW.

Yeah, they'll probably completely ditch it when World of Warcraft 2 comes out.
