Title: Recettear - DQ4's Torneko merchant store meets Diablo
Post by: Himu on September 01, 2010, 03:21:03 PM
Holy shit. Dl the demo from steam.

It's a translating of an indie Jappa game. Basically you own a store and you have to sell shit to make ends meet and pay off loan sharks. So you hire adventurers, go into dungeons, get loot, sell the loot, buy more loot, hire MORE adventurers, and repeat the process.

And it's fucking addictive.

Xbox gamers have been relegated to waiting for late PC ports.  I remember when it was the other way around.  :teehee

copy-pasting my impressions from the Steam thread:

just finished the Recettear demo. it's about 2 hours long and saves are compatible with the full game, so if you're interested, give it a shot.

it's okay. it's a no-budget indie game, but a polished and cute one. my bigger issue is that buying and selling isn't that fun (it's just higher/lower numbers until everyone meets in the middle) and the dungeon gameplay is kind of naff. it also has the uniquely Japanese problem of assuming you only play PC games with a gamepad.

it is kind of interesting that your adventurer equipment is also your store equipment, so you have to weigh selling that powerful longsword for a phatty profit vs. selling it for far less to an adventurer (but then getting to use it in the dugneon).

I had fun, but I don't really feel the need to spend $20 and 20-30 more hours on the full game.

I made a thread LAST WEEK.

Demo is fun but I'll wait for a $10 sale.
