Reeves' film sticks fairly close to the original's plot and characters -- and even sometimes its shots -- but he ingeniously alters the context in order to capture a similar mood.
While all that is artful about Let Me In comes straight from the original, the Hollywood version commands respect for not dumbing things down.
Ultimately, if the Swedish version is near perfection, Matt Reeves's version achieves complete supremacy. Masterpiece is an overused word, but it's hard to think of another so powerful. Let Me In is the new standard for vampire movies.
This unsettling, effective American remake really gets under the skin as one of the year's most powerful thrillers.

Except hasn't it been confirmed it really is a dumbed down version plot-wise?
-
Doesn't seem that way from what the reviews say, but we'll see.

I thought everyone said the whole pedophilia angle was non-existent in this movie.
-
I loved the book :heart
But you're right, a direct adaptation would most likely suffer. But I think that is one aspect that can actually benefit the movie. It doesn't have to be the main premise, but it adds some dimension

:( sad but true. oh well. as long as the atmosphere doesn't swing the twilight angle i'll be okay. Imma rewatch let the right one in tonight.

I dunno. I'm pretty optimistic with this one mostly because of the buzz during production. it seemed like they had some of the most important aspects in mind. most remakes miss the mark entirely by forgetting what made the original great. But i see almost every remake and i generally like the ones most people hate (TCSM was awesome!).

Checked a couple of reviews and found this:
-Pedophile angle is way toned down, relationship between vampire and handler is more of a tortured romance
-The full-frontal shot is gone
-The violence is still there
-
The pedophile angle was non-existent in the original movie to begin with. It's a huge part of the original book's story, though.
Still, I kinda have hope this will be worth watching.

Cloverfield was supossed to be good too and look how that turn out :yuck
-
Wtf does Cloverfield have to do with any of this?
Same director.
-
not even considering this movie unless it gets the tvc seal of approval, and that's not likely
-
-The full-frontal shot is gone
Movie ruined.
-
Saw the trailer and wow, noticed shots directly taken from the first film
