Amazing atmosphere, it's a tense game and has amazing graphics. Combat goes from average to engaging.

there is a demo out:  http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/20971/Metro+2033+Demo
it's a big-ass 3 gig one and it lasts like ~20 minutes or more.

if you're unsure about the game and aren't planning to buy it now, just wait it out.  Christmas sales are crazy and it will show up again for sure and it may even be there for the Thanksgiving  sales.

Plus it is a steamworks game.  What that means is that you just enter the CD-key from the retail and it acts like you purchased the game from Steam; you can throw away the dvd and case afterwards because it is tied to your account.  Because it is retail, that is another place to find savings.  Like, Kane and Lynch 2 is a pretty recent game but you can grab a copy at Target for $12.

I'd buy just to see how it looks on your fat rig. There is always system litmus tests and this is one of them.

haha, even the best rigs choke on this, it's pretty much an instant way to feel like your junk is already outdated

It's got a really strong atmosphere and story so watch a few trailers and see if it's for you.  It is my goty probably, just a little angry at how picky it was about alternate endings and achievements.

To be fair, I'd want to hear your experiences given your fat rig.  :-*

I'm only running a 9800gt( :bow Kestastrophe) there has to be a huge improvement on your end.

It's not gonna be much better than your rig unless his CPU is beast. 9800GT is one of the best cards on the market atm. The highest end cards (single card configuration, mind you) out right now only manage a lead of 10-15 frames against the 9800GT.

Metro 2033 is one of those games that taxes your computer because these eastern block developers are crazy and like to render each water droplet and calculate dispersion, reflection, light refraction, shadow, condensation, physics, humidity, etc.

It's like physx in Mafia 2.  Turning it on tanks the game's frame rate because it adds physics calculations to clothing of every NPC.  By going into the files and moving things around, you can make it so it only affects your character's clothing (in addition to the other effects like tire smoke, debris) and it's perfectly fine.

I really enjoyed Metro 2033. It's a more linear Stalker with claustrophobic settings. The Steam sale isn't that great of a deal. I picked up a code from a guy on ebay for $7.99 a few months back.
