From the scribblenaut devs.

They completely drop all their DS fans, and go for the typical XBLA crowd? Really 5th Cell?
:derp
-
Sweet, a post-apocalyptic shooter. I've been dying for one of these, I'm so glad 5th Cell is around to answer my prayers.
-
it will probably have creative spark to set it apart from regular shooters, only it will be mechanically busted and a poor game. but it has creativity lolz I just wrote teh neogafs and a symbol appears--best developars ever!
-
A shooter? Wha... huh... errr.
Oh well. It's their choice. I certainly didn't wake up recently and though OH BOY I WISH I COULD PLAY A SHOOTER GAME ON MY 360.
Maybe it'll be good. Who knows. :wtf
-
I'd rather some mechanically busted and gimmicky game that at least tries something original, than another third person cover shooter in a post-apocalyptic setting.
:tomato
-
Are they trolling Microsoft or something? How do you go from Drawn to Life, Locke's Quest, and Scribblenauts to this? I don't see the progression.

It's them actually trying to journey to being a big boy developer rather than a DS ghetto developer.
Whether it works or not is a separate story. I'll wait for actual gameplay video.
-
Looks like Killzone 2. The style at least. Scribblenauts was pretty bad btw. So was Killzone 2. Very sceptical about this.

Ell Oh Ell.
-
I guess now we'll see if they can make a game, as opposed to a toy.
How is it even a toy, it has no redeeming play quality

What is original about Scribblenauts. I played it when it was called Mad Libs ;)

Looks unique. I'm kinda excited for it.
-
Gonna be a flop, nobody plays XBLA for longer than a week.
-
If that's the case, hopefully there will be a PC version in the future.
-
Gonna be a flop, nobody plays XBLA for longer than a week.
Monday Night Combat sold a few hundred thousand and I can find a game everytime I log onto it. They flopped all the way to the bank.

It sucks how true this is, though there are exceptions like Stoney pointed out.

Will there be music from Hybrid in the game?

Don't really care. Was more refuting your point since it made coin and got decent reviews. If this game is decent and it gets a nice slot on the summer of arcade it could do the same.
-
OMFG HELL YEAH JEREMIAH SLAZCKA
Who's that? Sounds Polish, that would mean this might be a good game.
:bow Polacks :bow2
-
that is blacklight tango down
but they did say it has a movement thingie, like Brink or The Crossing, that's innovative, new, and unique and innovative :munch

I don't even know but LOOK HOW PROMINENTLY HIS NAME IS FEATURED IN THE CREDITS. The credits. To a game. In a 10 second trailer. That started off with Bioshock 1's opening line with a few words changed. From the creators of Scribblehype.
:( Polacks :(

I would like to see that but finding a thread on gaf is a nightmare
spoke too soon lol

well, this just looks awful. I feel like I'm missing something because impressions from game sites and people reacting to the footage on gaf is entirely positive. To me this looks like they took what I hate most about shooters and made a game out of it. Maybe there is something more to stop it from being a giant game of peekaboo, but the footage doesn't show it. Seems like it boils down to: hide, tell bots to attack other guy who is also hiding, get bored, play Gears 3 instead.

I sort of feel the same but honestly until I actually play it who knows I guess.

I like the visuals, and the jetpack/wallclinging stuff could be fun. But the gameplay doesn't inherently look exciting, and the sound design is really annoying. A dozen or so ping noises being recycle for cover hits are already old just from watching the video. I can't imagine sitting in the same room with someone playing this.

Scribblenauts studio 5th Cell on Thursday said it would delay the release of its upcoming Xbox Live Arcade shooter Hybrid from this year into next year.
While that means that players will have to wait a bit longer for the game, the decision was partially based on a studio culture that takes into account quality of life of 5th Cell employees, according the studio's head.
"The critical response was overwhelmingly positive," said Jeremiah Slaczka, CEO and creative director of independently-owned 5th Cell in an email to Gamasutra.
"We just want to make the best game possible; we felt if we released it this year it wouldn't meet that goal without crunching very hard to meet our content standards," he said, "and our studio is not interested in crunching at all. We have a pretty strong policy against crunch here. Since this game is self-funded, we can afford that luxury."
On its surface, Hybrid looks somewhat like a standard online, third-person shooter. But the game implements a system that places more emphasis on the core shooting mechanic by disallowing totally free movement -- players must strategically move strictly from cover-to-cover.
The game, with its gritty look and focus on the core gamer market, is a departure for Bellevue, WA-based 5th Cell, whose most recent games include innovative Nintendo DS titles Drawn to Life, Lock's Quest and the Scribblenauts series.
Slaczka said in a press statement that Hybrid was "very well received this past GDC," but added, "with an additional year, we can take what we've learned and really drill down on our ideas to hopefully transform this game into something great."

If this sells, I know where I'm going to apply next.

This sounds like the single worst idea ever but I'm willing to try the demo
-
I still don't get it.
Who the hell wants to play a game where you can't move freely? To me, this control system only makes sense for like a portable game or something.
The only strategy I see it picking a piece of cover that you can't flank and NEVER moving.
I'm gonna try it because I try all shooters but yeah I don't quite get why not being able to move would be a compelling feature. I get why that might be in an ios game but not a console game where you have a good controller. We'll see I guess.
-
Apparently the beta for this starts today. I was sent a code.
-
It's really weird. I'm not sure I mean that in a good way. The movement bit is as weird as you think it is. I don't know. It's probably just a get use to it thing but it still feels weird although I could probably get use to that aspect.
The other surprising bit is how fast people die. Since it kind of has that future look you think it would be more like Halo or something but you die pretty quick which makes it even harder to move your first few games because you are confused and when you do move you get raped pretty quickly. You have also have these robots as kill streaks. Pretty low kill streaks. So people constantly have these robots with them
I'll play it some more this evening to give a better idea of it. Its plain looking but its clearly 60fps which is nice. I'm still just not sure why the gimmick of this one is appealing so far.
-
Played for about an hour and a half this evening. It's pretty fun. My impressions have improved. Once you get to terms with the movement which definitely takes about a half hour of getting your ass kicked, it becomes fun and you actually understand it and use it well.
The robots are a big part of the game and at first I found them annoying but they are so common that it just becomes a fabric of the game because everyone has them including yourself. There is also some weird meta game on top of it that involves a map of the world which I don't really understand. It's not for everybody but me and the friend I gave a beta code to started to dig it after awhile.

That Beta sign up page doesnt work anymore

I really like it. I'll buy it when it comes out. It's familiar but different which is nice. Just needs some weapon balancing.

Underrated game imo. Moves at 60 fps. Fun. Fast paced. A bit different. The servers seem to be having issues the first few days but when I can play its fun.
-
server issues are fixed apparently. I'm keen to check this out, been craving some unique multi action

They weren't last night. Although maybe things have been fixed today. I haven't played yet.

I'm going off this article http://www.trueachievements.com/n10069/hybrid-pulled-from-marketplace-due-to-server-issue.htm
TA are generally on the ball with their news so I'm assuming this reporting is accurate.
Let us know about the play Stoney
-
This was posted on their forums so they claim they've fixed the issue.
We have worked closely with Microsoft today and have identified and repaired the connectivity problem that a few users were experiencing. We would also like to notify you that work is still ongoing as we set up preventative measures to make sure this doesn't happen again. Thank you to everyone for their patience and understanding during the downtime.
Their idea of a "Few" users though is vastly underestimating what was going on.
